Geography

In Wasalee Rocky Hills, the landscape wreaks of death. The environment is not an easy place to live in, and the geography supports that claim. If not the actual geographical features that contribute to this energy, the structures found in Wasalee certainly add to the deadly ambiance. Jagged hills cover the coastline of Wasalee. There is very little beach to be found in the Wasalee area, and the beach that can be found is made up of loose rock, not sand. The coastline is certainly one of the more dangerous areas found in Wasalee. In some areas, the ground completely drops off and turns into a cliffside.

What lies at the bottom of the cliffs are sharp, jagged rocks that would easily impale a falling person. The rocks that are found on the coastline are gigantic, as well as dangerous. Littering the land, these massive rocks can be found. However, they are more commonly found in clusters on the coastline and at the bottom of cliffs that overlook the ocean. One of the non-natural geographical features that reside in Wasalee Rocky Hills is the Kel’uri fortress. The Kel’uri were the kin’toni clan that used to rule over Wasalee, until the much smaller C’rilaw clan launched an attack on them, destroying the Kel’uri clan entirely.

It was within the Kel’uri fortress where that attack took place. The C’rilaw decided to keep the name of the fortress Kel’rui, to always remember the clan that they had destroyed and dominated. The actual fortress, contrary to popular belief, is quite impenetrable. The only reason the C’rilaw were able to get in and destroy the Kel’uri was simply due to the fact that the C’rilaw were better warriors than the other clan. The fortress had tall and thick walls, where in some areas the walls were doubled up. There are small arrow holes strategically placed throughout the outer wall where arrows can be shot out, but arrows can not be shot into the fortress.

In the center of the compound is a large tower that is a few stories high, and goes into the ground a few stories deep. The Kel’uri should have sought shelter in the tower and waited out the C’rilaw clan. They did not do this, however, and that was a big reason for their defeat. The center tower is so well protected that the C’rilaw would have stood no chance. The Kel’uri fortress now serves as the center of the C’rilaw city and is always well guarded and protected. On the outskirts of the land are various C’rilaw homes and buildings. They didn’t have access to much, so the buildings are really nothing more than sad shacks.

However, after their victory at the Kel’uri fortress, newer and better buildings were created just outside the outer walls. The C’rilaw are now building up the whole Wasalee area now that they have better tools and resources. The Wasalee land they live on is brutal, but they match its brutality perfectly.

Plants

The plant life of Wasalee Rocky Hills matches the brutal landscape and ambiance the area is known for. Most of the plants found in the area are poisonous. This is another factor that contributed to the legend of the land being cursed. Since a majority of the plant life found in Wasalee is poisonous and toxic, especially when consumed, no zu’aan would go through the trouble of attempting to make the area livable. It clearly is a region that does not want inhabitants when most of the flora and fauna will kill them. The two most common, and most toxic, of the plants that grow in Wasalee are the po’anis fruit and the local water moss.

The po’anis fruit comes from the po’aan tree that grows near the coastline and on the beach. When looking down from a cliff, one would be able to see the po’aan tree scattered throughout the jagged and sharp rock clusters down below. The actual tree is a tall but skinny tree. It branches mostly at the top, with some scattered down the middle. The bark is white and flimsy and the leaves that adorn the tree are dark green. The po’anis fruit that grows on the tree is a deep purple. It blossoms and grows right where the leaf meets the branch on the tree.

Inside the fruit are many seeds; it is within the seeds where the most poison is located. To simply eat the flesh of the fruit would result in severe flu symptoms, possibly death, eating the seeds would ensure certain, rapid, and painful death. The moss found in Wasalee is not to be trifled with either. This moss grows exclusively in the water, so one would assume that it would not pose much of a threat. They would be incorrect. The moss is mostly found on the sea, but sometimes the moss is found in the freshwater resources on the land. When water touches that poisonous moss, a chemical toxic to zu’aan is released.

This chemical is enhanced by water and quickly infects whatever source it is growing on. The ocean, where it is found the most, should be avoided at all costs. When the poisonous water comes in contact with the skin effects are imminent. Boils and burns begin to appear and when the boils pop, the infected pus spreads the boils all over the body. One of the few non-poisonous plants in the area is the rock flowers. These flowers grow in between the cracks on the jagged rocks and offer a change of color to the area. They serve no real purpose in the area, they are just one of the few plants that won’t kill you.

The flowers are normally a pretty yellow or orange color, but sometimes a rare blue flower can be seen. It is a legend that when the blue flowers are seen, that war is coming. Most Wasalee Rocky Hills residents tend to avoid looking for flowers due to this reason.

Animals

Wasalee Rocky Hills is not the easiest place to live, but the animals of the area have somehow managed to find a way to survive. Not many animals inhabit the area, but Wasalee does have a few native creatures. The lo’tu are the dominant animal of the land. Lo’tu are big creatures that measure to be as tall as an average zu’aan when standing normally on their four legs. They have a scale texture to their skin that is tough as armor. Lo’tu have large, thick heads fit with small eyes and a big snout. Their teeth are not sharp, but the force exerted when closing their jaws would make one bite from a lo’tu lethal.

Lo’tu are wild creatures, but the C’rilaw clan managed to domesticate some of them. Taming the giant beasts was not easy, they reject any attempts of such actions. To tame a lo’tu, one has to establish a bond with it. Then, one has to fight and win against their lo’tu, for these giant beasts will only succumb to a stronger creature. Taming a lo’tu is a right of passage in Wasalee, and proves someone is worthy of living in the land. Once tamed, lo’tu will only ever respect their chosen masters. The C’rilaw clan tamed many lo’tu, and rode them into battle against the Kel’uri clan.

The beasts are ferocious creatures and their diet reflects that. Lo’tu consume a strict diet of the po’gu bird that is found throughout Wasalee. They are not the best hunters, but they are patient and fast killers. Lo’tu are creatures that embody the nature of the rough landscape that is Wasalee Rocky Hills. Po’gu, as previously mentioned, are small birds that can be found all throughout Wasalee. These small birds are covered in black and white feathers, and have a striking rounded, red beak. They only grow to be about a foot tall and have a wingspan of the same height, just lengthwise.

One interesting fact about the po’gu: they have an immunity to the poisonous moss that is found in Wasalee. Because of this interesting trait of theirs, po’gu make nests on top of, and out of, the poisonous moss to deter the lo’tu from getting too close to the young po’gu. Their immunity to the poisonous moss also allows them to dive into the water to catch fish. The po’gu hunts fish as their main source of food. They both hunt and eat the caught fish underwater, not wanting to share their kill with any other creatures that may be lurking nearby, waiting to steal the po’gu’s hard-earned meal.

Despite being a small creature, the po’gu is not to be trifled with. After living in the harsh landscape for so long, the po’gu bird has become a menace in their own right. They can be frequently found messing with the lo’tu even though they are the po’gu’s sole predator. Po’gu do not care about the well-being of themselves or other creatures. They are evil.
