Geography

The Tucciuser region's geography was characterized by its very uneven terrain due to the range of hills that cut right across the entire region. The land was covered in dense vegetation with different varieties of tropical trees and plants covering all levels of the jungle landscape. The jungle had many clearings located all over- which was characteristic of many areas zu'aan habitats in the region. The zu'aan of the region indulged in large scale wood-cutting for all their structural and trading needs.

The villages and towns of the region were constructed entirely of wood and had many structures that stood out at oblique angles in the distinctive style of the zu'aan of the region. Agriculture was conducted around these villages and settlements and would regularly lead to high yields due to the favorable conditions of the region. These included the extremely fertile soil that could support all types of crops and even guarantee the success of three crops in a single season.

This reddish soil was quite unique to the area and was never found in any other region of the continent. Other favorable conditions in the region included the regular precipitation and the abundant sunlight that let the plants of the regions remain evergreen all year round. The green cover would slowly grow thinner over the ages as the zu'aan activities continued to intrude into the previously dense areas of vegetation. This would slowly bring about a change in the conditions of the region as the region progressively grew hotter every decade and began to receive lots of sunlight without the presence of shade provided by these trees.

After witnessing the effects of deforestation first-hand, the leader of the clans would ensure the planting of more forests elsewhere, to compensate for the declining woodland. The region had a warm and humid tropical climate that was partly alleviated by the presence of tree cover that provided both shade and fresh air for the region. The region received large amounts of precipitation that would either permeate into the red soil and collect beneath the surface in large cave systems that ran across the entire region.

Most of the surface water would follow the elevation and run down the hills, forming fast streams during periods of heavy rain. Most of the vegetation of the forest floors would come alive after periods of rainfall and the region would witness the blossoming of many new plants from any exposed soil in the area. Temperature in the region rarely dipped below twenty degree Celsius at it coldest, while averaging in the low to mid-thirties for the rest of the year. The warmth and uncomfortable climate of the region was due to the high levels of humidity from the constant water cycles and regular rainfall received by the region.

The weather would become more bearable during the short winter months when temperatures would hover in the lower twenties and the humidity would fall to more tolerable levels. Precipitation very rare during this period and farmers would have to plan around it to avoid expensive crop failures.

Plants

The Tucciuser jungle was filled all kinds of tropical vegetation ranging from evergreen trees to heavy bushes and undergrowth that covered most of the forest floors. The heavy presence of these plants made it difficult to navigate from the ground and could disorient even the most experienced scouts and trackers. The vegetation and landscape were very uniform throughout the entire region and some of the most common trees of the region included the giant ild'kim trees, the taller and lankier ser'ves trees, the athoit vines and the z'essyer crops that were commonly grown around regions of zu'aan habitation.

These plant species were very invasive and could convert previously cleared land into a forest if left neglected. The ild'kim was a giant tropical tree that had a distinctive wide trunk and roots that hung down from its branches. The tree was known for its evergreen properties and would retain its green leaves all throughout the year. Its branches spread wide and could cover a substantial part of the forest floor. It could grow to a height of around twenty meters and its branches could cover an equal amount of ground.

The wood was known for its sturdiness and the difficulty involved in chopping it down. Only the strongest among the zu'aan attempted to cut down this variety of tree. It was used for making the toughest types of structures like defensive structures and gates due to the difficulty to break one down as well as its fire resisting properties. The tree also bore a sweet fruit that was a common source of sustenance for both the wildlife and zu'aan of the region. The lankier ser'ves was a taller and lankier tropical tree with most of its branches and leaves concentrated on its upper reaches.

The stem was thinner and was easier to cut and work with. This ease made it the ideal type of wood for most of the construction activities of the region. Many large sections of this kind of wood had been cleared to fund the construction of zu'aan settlements in the region. The tree rose to a height of over twenty-five meters and had bright green leaves like most of the vegetation in the region. The lankier ser'ves was also known for its distinctive red flowers that would bloom all over the tree to signal the arrival of spring.

The athoit vines were one of the most commonly found species of plants in the region. They were an invasive species that could grow on any surface and around other vegetation. They would wind themselves around the trees of the jungle in coils in order to reach the tree tops where they could receive a constant source of sunlight. The athoit vines produced edible fruit that was often fermented by the locals to produce various kinds of alcoholic drinks. The vines were a mix of very deep purple which would blend into a light green in spots.

They could be found anywhere in the Tucciuser region and settlements had to be regularly maintained to control the growth of these plants. The z'essyer was the main crop of most of the zu'aan populations in the region. It had a short stem that grew out of the ground while the most of the edible root was embedded into the soil. The name z'essyer came from the edible oval outgrowths from the stem but would later come to refer to the plant as a whole. It had a very high nutritional content along with a high yield per crop that was vital to the survival of entire settlements.

Animals

The Tucciuser region was home to a wide variety of tropical wildlife. These jungles were alive with all kinds of animal activity at any given moment of the day or night from the hundreds of species that regularly inhabited these lands. The zu'aan regularly avoided heading too deep into the jungles at night due to the amount of predators that lived within. Their roars and cries would echo through the jungle at night when most of the other noises died down. Some of the most common types of animals in the region included the predator etumque, that was known for stalking its prey.

The Jyver- a herbivore that was capable of goring its adversaries in self-defense, the isscyer- a large mammal that could be domesticated and used in lumber operations and the hadelryn- a four limbed mammal with prehensile limbs and tail. The etumque was a predatory beast that was known for its fearsome nature and the brutality of its attacks. The zu'aan of the region frequently encountered it during their wood cutting operations and it became a habit for hunters to travel along with these groups in order to ensure their safety.

The etumque was known for its soft coat of spotted black and green fur that helped it blend into the jungle environment. Most of the threat posed by the animal came from its retractable four-inch claws that could latch onto its prey and tear into flesh and bone alike. It lied atop tree branches where it would spend the hottest parts of the day relaxing when it was not hunting prey. The jyver was a more solitary beast that lived in small familial groups. It fed off the various plants of the region and was capable of defending itself against both prey and any individual it perceived as a threat.

This was accomplished with a set of very sharp horns that were capable of causing serious harm to any animal and could even break through wooded obstacles. The animal could grow to a length of over ten feet and an average height of over five feet. It packed quite a large mass that allowed it to develop enough power to gore its adversaries. The isscyer was a large mammal that rose to over ten feet and had a prehensile trunk that was quite versatile and could operate objects around it.

It was regularly domesticated by many of the zu'aan who regularly used them to carry out all the heavy lifting involved in their work. The isscyer were colored a dark brown and had a thick outer skin that protected them from the elements as well as predators. It was one of the most intelligent creatures in the wild and was known to help lost travelers or injured zu'aan find their way back to their settlements. The hadelryn was a four limbed mammal with a prehensile tail that lived on the tree branches of the jungle.

Entire colonies of these animals would live together and help each other gather food as well as groom together. They were very inquisitive creatures and would regularly make their way into zu'aan woodcutting camps. The hadelryn had soft golden hair that covered the entirety of its body. The fur was very light and breathable and allowed the animal to keep its core temperatures cool even in hot temperatures.
