Geography

The Garrdenddel Flooded Forest is in a deep valley between the Jade Cliffs and the Thifcha Moss Swamp. The Jade Cliffs start a downward slope into the Flooded Forest, causing all of the water runoff from the Jade Cliffs to quite literally flooding the Forest most of the year. A bit higher in elevation, to the east, is the Thifcha Moss Swamp. The Moss Swamp is able to stay so moist throughout the year because of its proximity to the Flooded Forest. To the South is the Isbelbur Autumnal Mountains Ridge. The two areas are mostly connected through a small waterfall that outlines the entirety of the Flooded Forest’s boundary and dumps into a pond near the Northernmost boundary, yet lowest in elevation, of the Mountain Ridge.

The land of the Forest is bowl-shaped, angled downward toward the middle of the territory. The constant rain run-off from the Jade Cliffs makes the land nearly always flooded with water. The water from this runoff has a green tint, due to the nature of the Jade Cliff’s sentiment. However, the water of the Flooded Forest does not appear as green as the water of the Jade Cliffs. On the contrary, the water is nearly clear, because of the depths of the valley and a fish discussed below that feeds on the green pigment of the sediment. The water of the Flooded Forest is so clear that the bottom of the water, all the way down, is visible.

The water is safe for drinking and many fruits and vegetables grow underneath the water. The height of the water changes consistently throughout the year. Sometimes, the water is so high that a Vork can simply step off of his boat onto the Jade Cliffs or bump right into the pond of the Autumnal Mountains and start climbing. Sometimes it is so low, that the Vork can step off of their boats and stand up, only chin deep in the water. The land is free of any rock structures besides the Jade Cliffs to the West and the Moss Swamp to the East, and the Central Rock structure.

At the North is the “Wall”, a large Sea Rock that finishes off the bowl shape of the Flooded Forest and protects the forest from the Taerel Sea. Half of the Wall is a part of the Jade Cliff region. The other half is Vork territory, though its land is useless for only being accessible a few times a year.

Central Rock, a large rock structure in the very middle of the Flooded Forest, is a large circular rock that used to be a mountain. It remains strong and sturdy in the middle of the Flooded Forest and reaches a height as high as the tallest Autumnal Mountain.

On this rock, a CeRo tree grows. The CeRo tree is difficult to access, especially for the water-dwelling Vork, but once a year an honored member of the clan goes to speak with spiritual guides, ask for good weather, and good harvest. On the bottom half of the rock, the part accessible easily to the Vork regardless of the weather, fruits, and vegetables grow in little caves and caverns. This is how the Vork eats most of the year. Once a year, for only a few hours, the land of the Flooded Forest is completely dry. It is known as the Dry Hours by the Vork clan.

And celebrated by the youngest of the clan for being a time to find lost things that may have fallen in over the rest of the year. Vork are able to easily harvest the vegetables and fruit that have flourished on the Forest floor for the other part of the year.

Plants

The Rirev Flooded Forest is underwater most of the year. Because of this, all of the plants, vegetables, flora, and fauna, are aquatic. There are eight distinct flowers associated with the Flooded Forest region, and each is unlike anything else found in Taerel. Because they are sea flowers, their petals are thick and membrane-like, almost like Jelly-Fish. They have adapted to glow in the dark of the bottom of the Forest. They charge up with Solar Power only once a year, during the Dry Hours. Each of these six flowers is distinct in color and shape.

There are four main species. fashi, which are reminsent of a daisy. The vog, that look like water carnations. The gro, that look like underwater Iris. And the Anti, that look like a classic coral, with tendrils moving upward with the flow of the water. The Vork named them based off of their main species and their color. Flowers ending in an extra “O” are blue, “A” are pink, “E” are green, an “U” are orange. For example, a pink gro flower would be called a groa. Distinguishing between the colors is essential, as different pigments from different species can be poisonous if consumed or cause an allergic reaction if applied topically.

The Vork teaches young clans members about the differences as soon as they are old enough to harvest. Most of these flowers come in each color, besides the Anti, which doesn’t have a green version. groa, fashie, vogu, and antio are all poisonous. Groe, gasha, vogo, and antiu all cause allergic reactions if topically applies. There are three species of tree found in this region, two of which are commonplace. Both trees have large, round bases take up the massive amounts of water and remain stable in the flooded forest. The main difference between these trees are their flowers. The magnif tree has large, waxy leaves, that drop into the water and become floating manif plants, which grow Mani fruit.

The smra tree has large, long leaves that fall and sink to the bottom of the Forest. The Central Rock has the one and only cero tree, a tree that grows atop the former mountain and grows cero flowers. These flowers, if consumed, are known for their hallucinogenic effects. Some take to the flowers well, claiming to speak to spirits and gods, and other experience bad images and auditory hallucinations. The Vork clan selects a member of strong spirits, mental stability, and health to try the cero flowers each year. The ascent to the mountain itself is strenuous and can be particularly dry for a person who spends most of their time in water.

Regardless, cerro flowers and cero trees are found nowhere else in the Universe. The cero is a large based tree with thick, wide branches and bright green leaves. The cerro flower is purple. Many fruits and vegetables grow on Central Rock for the consumption of animals, insects, and Vork. These have been named by the Vork based on their color and taste--sour, sweet, spicy, and starchy. In the Flooded Forest, growing off of the Central rock, exists about twelve different fruits (sour or sweet) and vegetables (starchy or spicy).

Animals

No land animals live in the Flooded Forest, only amphibians and fish. The most notable fish scientifically is the jade fish, which eats the green pigment in the water runoff from the Jade Cliffs. The jade fish ensures that the water is completely clear in the Flooded Forest, and in turn, is bright green. More than three hundred species of fish live in the Flooded Forest, most of which are genetic descendants of the Jade fish, each being different colors of green. Since the Vork arrived and started to eat some of the crops the fish were used to eating, they have since adapted to eat particular colors and types of fruit or vegetable.

The sour-eating fish are called the chuarms’s, the sweet-eating fish are called the luhv’s, the starchy eating fish the karub’s, and the Spicy eating fish the tupical. Only the tupical are consumable pleasurably. Though all fish can be eaten, it is only the tupical that is pleasing to the tastebuds. During the Dry Hours, fish dig out little holes in the soft ground of the Flooded Forest and survive by hibernation. They rest in these wet pools for the entirety of the dry hours and begin to wake as the water fills up the bowl of the Flooded Forest again.

There are eight main types of amphibian, none of which are consumable. They are as follows: the provo (a sea turtle like creature), the exc (a lizard like creature, that also lives in the Jade Cliffs), a sharp (a komoto dragon like creature), a divine (a thumb sized, chameleon like creature), a attrac (similar to a iguana), delif (a hard shelled, hermit crab like creature, Winsome (a frog), and a sentiment (a dog sized frog).

About five hundred different types live in the Flooded Forest, traveling back and forth between the Forest and the Moss Swamp. Some bugs live exclusively underwater and are unable to travel to the Moss Swamp, such as the underwater dragonfly, which is primarily feasted on by the exc. The most beautiful of the underwater Insects that live in the Flooded Forest is the flood bug, a beetle-like creature with an iridescent shell. If not properly sheltered underground during the great Dry Hours, the dead Beetle Like Creatures secretes a rare medicinal venom. The Vork use this venom to trade with other clans.
