Geography
An important geographical point of the forest is the abundance of creeks flowing in the land, which all meet in a deep lake used by the past tribes for fishing. The creek system was used by the first zu'aan settlers as a way to travel within the forest and to trace the division of land. The tall yellowy trees used to be the demarcation for the forest grounds, using said trees as a sequence, the settlers built wooden walls and gates following the forest's own limits. Being so, the settlement was separated into sections. By the south, they had a communal living area, called a pram, where children could play and the parents could watch.
Another section was used for housing, this one was chosen giving the trees in the area, this way they could use the space upwards, instead of sideways. It is believed a common household for the Kalho't tribe was composed of two or three levels, depending on the family. The first one was the entrance, the bathroom and the kitchen, normally used by the family to work, eat and prepare meals. The second was the parents' bedroom, the third for the children and if needed another level would be built, in case elderly members of the family lived with them.
The bathroom, being on the first level, was actually detached from the house, normally in the back. The excrement was used as fertilizer for families' private back gardens. Some houses were actually atop the trees, normally these would be given to single members of the tribe. Life in R'eness made it so it was not necessary to go out looking for prey and meats, since the land was fertile and prosperous, the diet of the tribe members consisted of fish and crops. Normally each family would have a smaller and private garden, but in the sense of community, it was very common to donate food for others if the family found their gardens to be too productive.
The tribe did have cattle, normally acquired through trading, but said cattle were mostly used for its wool, having no necessity to kill the animal. One section of the settlement was used as a farm for said cattle, called juio, a four-footed peaceful furry animal. In the same section was possible to find a bigger communal farm. Given the lake in the middle of the settlement, the tribe members expected it to be a point for wild animals, considering this situation, they didn't want to lose the opportunity to catch a prey or two, so, they built another man-made lake, near the end of the settlement, with an opening for smaller animals to come in.
This was later on used by another zu'aan tribe, the Galiath, to sneak into the Kalho't settlement. After the Galiath took the settlement from the other tribe, they closed the entrance and kept the lake for fishing only.
Plants
Given the forest name, an abundance of flowers could be found in the land before the freezing era. Some flowers were used by the tribes as a source of nutrition, while others were simply beautiful ornaments for the place, and others could be used as medicine. Some flowers found in the R'eness Cold Flower Forest are;
Witiero; Known to be a medicinal flower, this plant has petals in a dark shade of blue, only blossoming during cold weather, which is a factor that made the flower able to be the last specie to thrive during the cold era. Its medicinal powers are the only reason some tribes still venture into the forest. The tea made from the roots of the flower is believed to cure any type of cold-related disease.
Lotomera; Long extinct, this flower was used by zu'aan tribes as a source of nutrients. This flower was bigger than any others in the forest, with a thick stalk, that could be cut and eaten raw in pieces, with a sweet taste, normally eaten as a snack by several tribal folks. And also given to guests of the Kalho't tribe as a gift, a symbol of their friendship.
Helyplal; Another plant used as medicine, but also extinct, the Helypal was a small red colouring flower with several petals. The petals were used by tribe members to heal cuts and stop bleeding, by rubbing the petals on the wound.
There used to be more than one hundred species of flowers in the biome, many were never catalogued by the tribes given they had no useful properties, such as the Chendite, a pretty orange flower with few petals, the Onobary, a very small purple one. The Avafier, known for its sweet nectar, normally consumed by children given the flavour. The Eagrafy, a beautiful white flower used by the Kalho't as a wedding symbol and many others.
Also, natives from the region, are several vegetables planted by the tribes as a source of food, like the Fisem, a sweet vegetable with an orange colour known to grow during the hotter months, normally boiled and eaten with meats and fish.
Atori; A long vegetable, known to be grown underground during the colder seasons, was normally roasted in bonfires, with a salty taste and used as a complete meal.
Goanium; Sometimes called "Flower of Goi," it is still used nowdays by the Perdyn kin’toni clan to produce cotton, being this one of the most important material used by the clan in clothing.
Noxidona; A fruit type of food, grown in bushes around the forest, easily recognizable by the flower blooming within the yellow berries. With a sweety tangy taste, it was normally eaten as breakfast, with dark bread baked by the tribes.
Pyshe'kor; This grain, grown all seasons but winter, was used by the tribe to make a dark-toned flour, commonly turned into the dark bread, a nutrient item that could be sliced and kept by the tribe in conservation clay jars during months with river water. Which tended to become a thick liquid, boiled and then consumed by the tribe members during winter and special occasions.
This liquid, also called dier, could be boiled with special fruits and flowers, giving it a sweeter taste and a colourful semblance.
Animals
Given the tribe's constructions and life, not many bigger animals would roam around the settlement, but it was possible to find several birds, insects and lizards in the forest, as the insects were attracted by the flowers, and lizards by the insects, so the birds by the lizards. And in the waters, it was possible to find several subaquatic species. Such as;
Blerem; A big fish, normally fished with a spear while resting in the shallow bits of the creeks, this fish was commonly found during hotter seasons. It was believed by the Kalho't tribe the Blerem was a gift from the skies, given how easy was to catch the animal. Becoming one of the most important items in the Kalho't and later on in the Galiath diets.
Kleamo; Present in the tribe's diet during winter, this smaller fish could be found by huge schools, making it possible to catch it with well-placed fishing nets. It was common for the Kalho't to boil huge amounts of this fish in big pots and turn it into a stew, used to feed the whole tribe, shared around with dier and atori.
Masbir; Only found during the summer, this fish was a rare catch for the tribes, given its size, the animal could only be killed by spears and it was only found in the deeper sections of the main lake. The amount of meat was salted, roasted and shared between the families.
It was also common for the tribes to catch birds, placing traps atop trees, becoming another common item in the tribes' diet. Some birds found in the region are;
Educo; A huge bird of prey, common for hunting near the forest, given the number of lizards present in the biome. This bird was normally caught with a trap set up with lizards that were too small to become food for the tribe. When a bird like the educo was caught the Kalho't tended to roast it together and use its feathers as clothing.
Niol; A smaller bird known to lay several eggs at the same time. The role of climbing trees to look for noil's eggs was used given to children, making it a fun play and giving them a job within the community. Said eggs used to be boiled and eaten as breakfast.
Mizze; This bird was commonly caught like the educo, but only found in the forest during the colder seasons.
About insects, it was a tribe tradition to harvest the produce in the insects' hives.
Boyalo; A small peaceful insect, with blue colouring. The creature produces a thick sweet paste with a brown colour, called bago by the Kalho't. This product was used with dier, sometimes spread on roasted meats and also used as a healing product, being spread in wounds.
Mectary; This big insect was not used by the tribe for their by-products, but instead, it was common to eat the insect whole, having a sweet taste and crunchy texture. To find this creature the tribe members would remove pieces of bark from specific trees with a knife, finding the nest of said creatures.
