Geography

Dra'ango Barren Desert is a moderately hilly stretch of empty sand. There are a few marked water pools, but generally there is no water outside of The Channel. The desert is pockmarked with the remnants of the ancient zu'aan city states that the Rodia kin'toni clan came from, and in turn destroyed. Over time these remnants sink deeper into the sands and become less visible. Only 3 of the once 7 great zu'aan cities are now visible. The Channel is one of the largest rivers on the continent, its widest point is measured at 2 kilometres. The Channel is not particularly deep however, and the right person can navigate across the river without the water passing their shoulders.

This river contains plenty of fish and has resulted in the construction of Alasbastor on the island of Honorum. Honorum is located in the middle of the rivers widest point, and mostly appears like a large sandbar. The ground is solid however and, on this ground, the local Rodia kin'toni constructed a fishing village that grew overtime to become Alabastor. The Channel is also the main reason why the last remaining zu'aan settlement of Klyton has survived for so long. Klyton is a a zu'aan coastal town built on a split of Dra'ango land that sits in-between The Channel and the ocean.

The Klytonese have used the abundant natural resources on their land to create strong walls, and an even stronger navy. Their town is surrounded by farmland, which is one of the main methods used to sustain their population. Klyton also contains a harbour known as The Ocean Forge. It is here that the Klytonese build their powerful warships, as well as fish for food. Praetor is the magnificent capital city of the Rodia kin'toni clan and their Iirla empire. Its walls are hewn of sandstone and tower to incredible heights. Praetor is located in the centre of the area of Dra'ango known as 'The Farmland'.

This is a series of farms worked by zu'aan slaves in order for them to sustain themselves. The Farmland also serves to make the Rodia seem more civilised to other clans and cities. Praetor is made up of many different districts, each with its own purpose. The Imperial district contains the Emperors living quarters as well as the palace. The Palace is a series of extravagant gardens and indulgent sandstone architecture. It is here where the emperor, Kivan the Just, sits atop his throne and meets with potential allies and enemies. The Craftsmen district is where the tradesmen of the clan ply their trade.

This district is where the infamous Rodian carvers and stone masons can be found. These tradesmen are responsible for glorious nature of the city around them. The religious district contains temples and holy sites for both of the Rodian religions. And finally, the slum district, the largest and least pleasant of the lot. Here the poor and the criminals of the Iirla empire congregate. The law’s grip is weaker here and the streets in this district are usually run by the ruthless gangs, often containing zu’aan rebels.

Plants

Dra'ango Barren Desert does not contain many forms of plant life. The harsh nature of the desert, and the constant blazing sun does not make for very hospitable conditions. The fact that the desert was formed from ancient zu'aan using atomic weapons against each other, makes the ground even worse for plants. Only the toughest and most adaptable plants have managed to survive.

Macti Cactus

The macti cactus is a species of plant native and unique to Dra'ango Barren Desert. These cacti grow very tall so that the small buds that grow on their tips cannot be attacked by any animals or kin'toni. The macti can go for months without water due to the clever water storage system contained within their stems. Their bodies are dark green and are lined with pale white spines that are filled with poison. The macti poison will inflict complete paralysis on any victim that is pricked by the spines on the cactus. The paralysis generally lasts for about 5 minutes.

This poison is used by the local Rodia kin'toni clan on their spear and arrow tips. The macti buds are very tasty morsels that are also very hard to reach. Many kin'toni quest to find as many buds as they can to eat them, and many find themselves paralysed for a few minutes as a result.

Totainim

Totainim is a native species of fruit tree. Totainim trees are short, and do not exceed heights of 1 metre. They grow many purple coloured fruits from their branches which are great to eat for zu'aan. Both the Rodian kin'toni and the Klytonese farm these trees. The Rodian's farm them as an easy food sources for their zu'aan slaves. The Klytonese farm the totainims to feed their growing population, and their farming technology is far superior, allowing incredible fruit yields. Totainim trees are easy to farm as they don't need much water and can survive harsh droughts and freezing nights.

Each tree can grow between 2-10 fruits, and the farms around Klyton have been known to grow double this. The fruits can last many weeks without growing mould or going off.

Tarkan Moss

Tarkan moss is a species of rapidly growing moss that is native and unique to Dra'ango Barren Desert. This moss is capable of growing and reproducing at rapid rates. Tarkan moss is bright yellow and is soft to the touch. The moss is able to survive off of little water, and constantly spreads to the nearest water source it can sense. The moss will devour any other form of plant life that crosses its path on its journey to more water. Dra'ango is covered in vast swathes of this moss, and almost all of the water holes are completely surrounded by it.

The Rodian farmland has to constantly cut back the moss as it would otherwise cover all of their crops. Praetors walls are mostly covered in the moss also, as it climbed over sensing the water contained within the city. The tarkan moss is unable to cross The Channel and the Klytonese do not have it on their land, making farming a lot easier for them.

Animals

Dra'ango Barren Desert is a harsh environment for wildlife to survive and only the hardiest creatures are able to live here. Most of the animals in the desert are concentrated around The Farmland and Klyton areas. The Channel is essential to their lives as it is the only major water source in the region that they can easily access.

Tomari

Tomari are small mammals that are native and unique to Dra'ango Barren Desert. Their short fir is coloured similar to the sand of the surface to help them hide from predators. Tomari live in burrows they dig near the waterholes that are spread around the desert. They generally grow to sizes of about 30cm in length. They feed on the endless swathes of tarkan moss that grows throughout Dra'ango. Due to the almost endless supply of food, and water nearby the Tomari population can endure the harsh environment. The tomari have populated almost all of the waterholes across Dra'ango, their groupings of burrows are known as tomari warrens.

They usually only emerge from the burrows during the night when it is cool. Their burrows help to protect them from predators as well as the scorching sun.

Cactidid

Cactidids are a species of flying insect that are native and unique to Dra'ango Barren Desert. They are fluorescent blue and their wings glint in the sun as they fly. These insects predominately feed on the Macti Cactus buds that grow on the tips of their stems. They can easily fly on top of the cactus plant and extract the glucose contained without being touched by the poisonous spines. Cactidids lay their eggs along the banks of The Channel. Here the large clusters of blue eggs can be seen during the springtime and are often harvested by the Klytonese to eat.

Cactidids are harmless to humans by nature, but they can carry deadly diseases with them. They were one of the largest causes of the kin'toni plague spreading so quickly across Dra'ango.

Bulton

Bulton are a large species of reptile native and unique to Dra'ango Barren Desert. They can grow up to 3 metres in length and are coloured a deep turquoise. Bulton are able to swim very powerfully as well as being able to sprint fast on land. They mostly feed on the fish that can be found in The Channel. The Klytonese have domesticated many bulton and use them to pull ploughs and carts. These creatures like exclusively along the banks of The Channel. Here they often be seen in the early hours of the morning absorbing sunlight.

Being cold-blooded they need to bathe in the sun for a few hours every day to build up their energy. Bulton are generally not dangerous, but they do have sharp teeth and powerful jaws that they will use if they feel threatened. The local Rodia kin’toni dislike the bulton because they constantly steal fish out of containers and sheds along the docks of Alabastor. The bulton also catch a lot of fish to feed themselves which lessens the population of fish the Rodians can catch.
