Geography
Dan'eta Stone Basin is comprised almost completely of the 3 mountains that surround the central gorge area. Each mountain was named by the local Lebeti kin'toni clan to represent their 3 founders. Bravery, Wisdom and Vigilance - the warrior (Freir), the strategist and the politician. Each mountain spawned its own river at its snowy peak, spilling fresh water down into the basin. This water is too cold for most creatures, but certain fish are able to survive its temperatures, and are the main food source for the locals. The 3 rivers retain the names of the mountain that they originate from and all congregate at the bottom of the basin to form Lake Erendreti.
Beneath the mostly bleak and empty surface of the basin lies a complicated network of caves. The Lebeti have explored many of them and discovered new and interesting mineral formations. The largest cavern is called Drakerin and contains the largest known cluster of Ashire crystals. Throughout many of these caves are settlements where the Lebeti leaders used to live, and many are still used to house miners or mercenaries who have been hired. All the major caves are linked eventually to Lake Erendreti, making it a prime location to build their capital.
The depths of the lake can be viewed from beneath by looking through walls of translucent crystal. Lebetia is built on the northern shore of the lake and has direct access to all of the major caves. The sanctuary contains refineries and forges to work the metals, as well as lavish housing for the leaders and The Great Library.
Ashire Crystals
Ashire Crystals are unique minerals that were discovered in the caves beneath Dan'eta. These crystals have different effects, dependent on their colour. Green crystals are very tenacious and are completely heat resistant. They can be used to create weapons or crafted into tools to work in forges where there is a lot of fire present. The largest green Ashire Crystal ever harvested was used as the hilt of Freir's legendary sword, 'World Tamer'. Red crystals give off heat and light. They are commonly used by Lebeti miners to light their way.
The red Ashire Crystals are too hot for any kin'toni to hold with their bare hands for any period of time. They can be forged into weapons to make them burn any opponent who is hit. Although, they are usually built into torches to be used by the Lebeti miners. Blue crystals are the rarest of the 3 and only 1 has ever been found. The blue Ashire Crystals are able to absorb water, similar to a sponge. The crystal can store a lot of water, but it can also be used to store other liquids, such as medicine or poison. The local Lebeti kin'toni use the only blue crystal as a drinking cup for the leaders of the clan to assert their authority.
However, it has also been used in the past for assassinations, where it has concealed acid that was released onto its unsuspecting target.
Plants
Plant life is very limited in Dan'eta Stone Basin, due to its surface being mostly comprised of rock. Most of the plants found in Dan'eta grow underground in the caves or underwater. The Libeti kin'toni clan do not farm any plants or trees and mostly live off of fish. Although, Libeti diets do often feature some common river weeds.
Nthri'dayus
nthri'dayus are a small, circular species of mushroom native to Dan'eta. These mushrooms grow next to crystal formations on the walls of the caves beneath the surface of the basin. Their colour changes to match the crystal it grows near to. These mushrooms are not edible and release spores into the air which can cause lung problems, the severity of which depends on how many spores were ingested. The Libeti kin'toni have removed as many of the nthri'dayus as they can, but the spores from undiscovered mushrooms always repopulate the cleared out areas once again.
The Libeti have crafted bombs made of many nthri'dayus packed tightly into a sack. These can be catapulted at enemy armies and explode into millions of deadly spores that will cause many of the nearby victims to suffocate. Those who manage to survive will likely die later due to lung disease.
Kanyu'eta
kanyu'eta is the native species of weed that grows specifically on the river beds of the three Dan'eta rivers. Each plant is made up of several long tendrils that are lined with small round leaves. The Riverweed is coloured light green, and its roots are grey to match with the stone they grow on. kanyu'eta can be eaten raw or cooked to create numerous other dishes. The local Lebiti kin'toni clan use the riverweed as their prime source of vegetarian nutrition. The kanyu'eta also grow at the bottom of Lake Erendreti, where the largest plants can be observed from the caves below.
Takuramyam
takuramyam are a species of berry plant that grow underground. These unique plants grow from the cave ceilings, and dangle their berries downward. Male takuramyam are a slightly different shade of purple than their female counterparts. The berries that the male plants produce are poisonous and are known to kill within minutes. The female berries are edible and taste really great. Both berries look the same and the only way for the Lebeti kin'toni to tell if the berries are edible or not is to judge the plant itself. Sometimes the difference in colour is so slight that it is impossible to tell under torch, or Ashire crystal light if it is male or female.
Generally the local Lebeti leave these plants alone, and only pick berries to eat from the plants they know for sure are female. These berries are eaten or traded for any items the Lebeti may require from other clans. The male berries juice has been used to poison the enemies of the Lebeti clan, and the blue Ashire Crystal has been used to retain this poison once before.
Animals
Dan'eta Stone Basin's surface is mostly devoid of any animal life. Most of the native animals live and breed within the caves or within the rivers and lake. Some of the underground species are dangerous and the local Lebiti kin'toni clan have to send their hired mercenaries to hunt and kill these creatures. The Lebiti also rely heavily on fishing as their main source of food generation.
Dan'eta ekurtan
Dan'eta ekurtan are the major species of fish that populate the river and lake of the stone basin. They are not particularly large, generally about 50 centimetres in length. These fish eat the kanyu'eta and can be caught using hooks hidden with the weed’s leaves. The fish breed at the bottom of Lake Erendreti and lay their eggs at atop the 3 peaks of the mountains. They do this so that when their eggs hatch the young will be swept down into the lake where the best food is. The local Lebeti kin'toni catch thousands of these ekurtan every day.
They are careful however, to not overfish them as if there is not a sufficient amount left to breed then the population will die, and the Lebeti will likely starve.
Dan'eta yirik-andia
The Dan'eta yirik-andia is a bulbous species of grey toads that live in the caves beneath the surface of the basin. The toads are able to eat the nthri'dayus without any side effects, and these are what they live on. The andia are extremely poisonous and the local Lebeti kin'toni are wary of these weird creatures. The toads generally leave other creatures alone unless threatened. When threatened they spit poisonous saliva at their opponent that burns skin at the touch. These toads cannot be eaten or touched with bare hands.
Arashi
Arashi are pale, white creatures that populate the deepest and darkest caves in Dan'eta. These curious creatures are humanoid, with two long legs and arms and the ability to walk upright like a kin'toni. Their bodies are long and thin and when fully extended the arashi can reach heights of up to 10 feet tall. However, the arashi tend to hunch over forwards, which can often make them seem less dangerous. Arashi are very dangerous and highly territorial. Each arashi lays claim to certain section of cave and if another Arashi or in some cases, kin'toni, enter their domain the owner will attack and kill viciously.
The arashi hunt and fight using their long claws and teeth. Arashi are omnivores due to the lack of meat in the depths, and often consume takuramyam for sustenance. While the arashi are fearsome, Lebeti monster hunters discovered the discarded corpse of a very large one deep in an Ashire Crystal cave. They say that it was not killed by another arashi, and by something else entirely. This is why the Lebeti do not consider the arashi the apex predators of the basin, as they believe deep within the planet, there is something far more deadly.
