Geography
The Fziruz'aoa Mesa is a range of newly formed plateau hill, with the caprock soil still looser than typical plateaus, making the area highly susceptible to erosion. The temperature remains moderate during the day but the night often brings extremely low drops in temperature. Beneath the mesa, runs an extremely high current river through a narrow gap that formed the mesa in the first place. Due to the violent nature of the river, the Fziruz'aoa Mesa remains unstable, with highly frequent erosions and rockfalls around the bank.
The constant flow of the river is not stopped by the rocks and as the river flows it causes breakdown of those rocks, making the level of the river rise gradually. The soil of the plateau is made of soft-limestone and holds high water retention due to its clayey nature. The fairly young mesa is very prone to natural disasters due to the soft soil and the river running beneath it, as the stone layers are affected by the rising levels of the river water caused by the breakdown of the falling rocks. The top of the plateau contains soil highly basic in nature, giving a slightly pungent odor to the top area.
The other end is a steep fall of about 200 feet where the layers of rock are visible on the other end. Due to the high temperatures reached during the day, the river's temperature also increases and lowers the pH of the river, making the rocks sustaining the river flow slightly acidic over time. The top and rock layers differ in nature. By night, the cold temperature neutralizes this effect, causing salt formation in the river due to the reaction between basic and acidic substances.
The contrasting seasons amplify this effect, causing the river water to be highly salty and the velocity of the river makes it unable to sustain any aquatic life. During summer, the dry soil often becomes unable to bear plants and the clayey soil too fails to retain enough water attributed to the extreme heat, causing a severe scarcity of water. Unlike summer, the Winter season keeps the soil relatively more moisturized and wet and the river running beneath slows down due to the extreme cold during the night.
Certain flora and fauna have made adaptations to survive the highly contrasting temperatures in the area. This landform is highly unstable due to the rocks present near the river bed constantly degrading, causing reoccurring floods, landslides and damage to the life in the area. The mesa contains of numerous deep alcoves near the base, which are formed due to the seasonal cycle. These alcoves often help slow down the fast flowing river by curving and forming waves but the walls keep degrading as a result of time and seasons.
The Fziruz'aoa mesa is always at a constant risk of collapse due to the very river that formed it through years of natural processes as the layers of rocks are washed away and being converted into soil throughout the years.
Plants
The flora of Fziruz'aoa Mesa does not consist of true plants, as they do not have true organs .They have pseudocopulatory organs for sexual reproduction and increased genetic diversity by using deception. They contain adaptive organs which release slightly acidic substances in order to properly grow in the basic soil of the plateau. The stone layers do not contain of any plant life and the river is unable to sustain any form of life as a result of its harsh pH and vigorous flow.
Atura Atura is a kind of short shrub plant with only a root-like holdfast and a divided stem-like stipe that forms multiple branches. Near its holdfast, are several pores filled with mildly acidic substances formed by the oxidation of the alcohol present in the plant. Atura forms this alcohol by the use of anaerobic respiration in the branches but since it lacks any motions for the transportation of this substance, young Atura plants do not contain such structures. The younger structures are often protected by parent bodies for a temporary amount of time before the youngling is separated from the parent. The dispersing criteria is the production of the acidic pores. It produces food mostly by breakdown of microbes present in the soil but is often lacking nutrition. Having adapted to a low-nutrition environment, the Atura is a highly common and very low requirement plant in the mesa.
Bliak Bilak is a plant found on the stone layers of the flat walls of plateau, often having a very dominant root which is deeply set within the soil for a better vertical grip and to make sure the plant holds on to the walls despite the high winds. The plant itself does not have any form of mode to obtain food but it uses the raw inorganic substances from the rocks that its deeply set in to form compounds and facilitate its growth. It reproduces asexually often because of the lack of reliable dispersing agents. Due to its odd mode of nutrition, the Bilak plants are very hard and compose of different elements than a typical plant, giving them a stony appearance and their off-springs alike. Despite the flow of the river they do not need to cope with the acidity of the river and their surroundings, attributed to their unusual chemical composition and their very persistent nature. They are moderately common in the rock layers of the mesa but a spectacular marvel of evolution.
Otaio Otaio is a very rare plant found in the soil of the plateau, with nearly no proper reproductive mode and no way to correctly neutralize the basic soil of their surroundings. They are born without proper root structures and from long chains of stems that run through the ground in order to even remotely deal with the winds in the upper side of the plateau. The plant reproduces both sexually and asexually but has very peculiar conditions for both. Such behavior makes the plant much more rare than other plants but offers no true benefit to itself. It synthesizes its own food by breaking down its older stems in the soil and absorbing their components. It transports food via the use of a very thin canal system that runs through its stems.
Animals
The fauna of this mesa relies on very simple body mechanisms for nutrition and follow a very simple food chain. Some are bipedal, some are aerial and some live under the ground. They require very low sustenance for survival due to the lack of modes of nutrition and other life forms in the area. They aestivate and hibernate during extremities of the seasons in order to better survive.
Thach Thach are very thin, snake-like animals with body length reaching no more than 3 feet at most. They traverse by the use of a very deep and intricate tunnel system which was made by the earlier generations and continues to expand by the current population. They are hermaphrodites, meaning there is no specific difference between sexes and they acquire nutrition by feeding on the common plants in the plateau, the only reason why they resurface. They are very careful to eat only the front and top parts of the plants as the root and bottom of the shoot often contain pH stabilizers which can harm their stomach as they are very sensitive. They have not undergone any major evolutionary changes throughout the centuries as their way of life supports their survival. They have no eyes as they use auditory cues and echolocation for navigation and they have a very weak digestive system, only letting them have a certain diet.
Rayn Rayn are bipedal carnivores which hunt other animals in the area. They are nimble and fast but do not possess any mechanical strength. Instead they rely on the use of substances on their skin which consists of very small spikes, which are difficult to spot by the naked eye. The skin glands hold a lethal venom which can paralyze their preys in 30-35 seconds. They also have a very sharp set of teeth in order to facilitate tearing of flesh and consumption. They do not have a proper digestive system as the body absorbs the nutrition just the cells present in their alimentary canal, which directly leads to excretion. Hence they are not very good absorbers of nutrition, which makes them need a lot more nutrition and in unfavorable conditions, having to recycle their own waste. During aestivation and hibernation, they temporarily become herbivores, eating lots of plants around them before completely falling asleep for months on end. They are also hermaphrodites with a specific mating call that they produce by blowing wind from their mouth. They have very sharp senses but are weak in strength and their bodies hold close to no mechanical resistance.
Ubury Ubury are aerial animals, with very small size and light body along with winged structures that help them take flight. They feed on dead and decaying matter such as dead animals and plants for their nutrition. They have very sharp teeth with another set of blunt teeth for the mastication of their food. They do not require much nutrition due to their small body size and hence aestivation and hibernation is often not very difficult for them. They have three seperate sexes, one being equivalent to male, other to female and another that acts as a hermaphrodite again. They have a well defined and highly efficient digestion which helps them acquire a maximum energy output.
