Geography
As mentioned earlier, the Yaenit clearwater region is unique in that it is particularly unremarkable and has been of little interest to any of the kin'toni nations. However given their recent resurgence and association with the Adon Kingdom, the Ashat nation’s pioneer clans’ council has sent forth several sorties of their flying kin'toni contingents to try and investigate the area, they have not been able to sight any habitations, and had they not known to know that the Aerch lived in the region for certain they would probably have missed even those details that confirm their presence.
Initially, the sorties were tolerated but the blood phantoms have begun to retaliate and many flying kin'toni have found themselves impaled by arrows as they surveil the region. The arrows used seem to indicate that an archer company of the Daera has been stationed in the region in order to counter the flying kin'toni sorties. The region is fertile but has no cultivable land, besides the trees in the region, the only other remarkable features of the land is the small ponds that the river forms as it cuts through the area.
These ponds are of incredibly clear water, and are teeming with life, there are several varieties of fish in the river. Although the region is not dry it isn’t particularly wet either, most of the growth of trees seems to be due to the water supplied by the river that passes through the forest. The vegetation that grows her is evergreen despite the lack of abundant rainfall and the Aerch have explained that among the large number of factors that were involved in choosing this location for the purpose of their new home.
One of them had been the presence of a tree cover that lasted throughout the year in order to prevent themselves being accidentally revealed to the flying kin'toni that although uncommon in the past had always been a possible threat. The weather further lends to the anonymity of the clearwater region, the too dry summer of this area means that it isn’t an ideal location for the growth of grains or plantations of crops used to feed the blood stock that the kin'toni nations rely on to feed their vast citizenry.
As such the kin'toni that were used to prospect new regions of the Taerel to expand their agricultural practice never really saw the region worthy of any interest and so the Aerch remained undiscovered and their land unsolicited. With the alliance of the Adon Kingdom however, there has been talk of clearing away some of the forest in the region in order to irrigate land for the growth of certain strategic crops, as although the region is not the most fertile region held by the kingdom of kin'toni warriors’ coalition,.
It is the only region that is most easily defended, added to that the presence of a limitless supply of water for irrigation, the warrior kin'toni are thinking of expanding their areas of operation and setup an agricultural practice which they may not have need of as of now but may depend upon in the future. These rumours have worried the other kin'toni nations, for once the Adon Kingdom begin to farm the carrying capacity of their kingdom will rise significantly and allow them to field larger armies that are better supplied and able to stay on the field for longer.
This is an aspect which they have been struggling with in their recent engagements.
Plants
The Yaenti Clearwater river region has been modified by the resident Aerch in order to allow for it to assist the Aerch kin'toni warriors in conduct of their practices. The Yaenti clearwater region is rife with plants that the kin'toni use in their reconnaissance and assassinations, the most notable of the plants they use is the bernaz and the rar'goman flower. The bernaz is a stimulant that grows on bernaz trees, the young branches of the bernaz tree are plucked by the kin'toni and their soft bark is peeled and chewed alongside the gum concocted from the sap of the tree, this stimulant allows the kin'toni to continue to function for long periods without the need of sleep and rest.
Particularly useful when crossing enemy territory covertly undetected. The bernaz plant not allows the kin'toni to stay awake but the stimulant effect also allows them to heighten their level of alertness, improving the kin'toni’s capacity to hear softer sounds better for spying and to see clearer than others in the dark. The bernaz plant has been brought by the Aerch from their previous home, and is said to be the reason they were able to cross the Taerel without engaging any open battles with the clans whose land they traversed through.
The bernaz though a very useful plant has its limitations and is as such not used by the Aerch often, one of the most common side effects associated with protracted use of the drug is heightened paranoia, which can be useful when carrying out espionage but can prove very problematic when dealing with other kin'toni openly. Another problematic effect of the stimulant is insomnia, those that have relied on the use of Bernaz for long periods find it extremely difficult to have quality sleep even when not on the drug.
This starts a terrible cycle in which the kin'toni is unable to rest and begins to rely on the bernaz in order to remain alert but which prevents the kin'toni’s ability to sleep. The standing problem with the use of bernaz means that although its an essential tool of the trade for the Aerch, the use of it in the homeland is banned. The other plant that is grown in the region is a discovery for the Aerch, although the kin'toni warriors had used poisons to coat their weapons before moving to the region, as most kin'toni warriors of the other regions are prone to doing as well.
None of the poisons used thus far had been very effective, and it was theorised that this was a result of the nature of the kin'toni and a deliberate part of their transformation, but with the discovery of the rar'goman this belef was brought into question. While the earlier poisons worked to only slightly increase the pain of the inflicted wounds or cause a slight drowsiness, the rar'goman poison causes debilitating pain and slows down the significant healing processes of the kin'toni which in particular make them difficult to fight.
The rar'goman flower is used heavily by the Aerch and almost all their weapons are coated with it, and makes fighting them such a pain. It is said that the Daera have been experimenting with the use of rar'goman as well since the founding of Adon although none have seemed to use it in their previous battles.
Animals
The Yaenti clearwater river does not have several animals worthy of interest, although the rivers are particularly full of ashena-kora who seem to congregate in the pools of the river that are formed in the region. The ponds seem to be the region within which these tan newts congregate in order to find a mate and lay their eggs, as such the pond banks are a dangerous place for those unaware of the abundance of poisonous ashena-kora found here. The Aerch treat them with respect but also actively hunt them for their leather.
The ashena-kora leather from these poisonous ashena-kora is used by the Aerch in the crafting of their garb particularly in their boots. The boots made of ashena-kora leather once painted with black pigment are remarkably long lived, while allowing the wearer to move through the land with barely a whisper of a sound. This leather is also used in making the holds of their weapons, for not only does it offer a good grip, it does not grow slippery even when covered with copious amounts of blood or sweat.
The Aerch of the river depend upon the resident korare-abaneth as the source of their blood, the korare-abaneth are large animals who are evidently built to live in land but spend most of their lives within the river ponds, they are monogamous mammals that feed on the plants that grow at the bottom of the river bed. They are know to raise several litters of their young throughout their reproductive years and for their size are amazingly mobile in the waters, catching a korare-abaneth in the water is an impossible task.
And the Aerch only feed on the animals when they make their way to land to sleep at night. The Aerch are not as rigid in their practice of hunting as their peer warrior clans of the Adon Kingdom, if they so require, they will rely on farmed blood stock in order to survive. However due to the poverty that dogged them throughout their initial years they have never really had the habit of squandering resources in order to access blood stock when they are able to hunt.
Increasingly this attitude is beginning shift, as the Adon Kingdom gains riches, the Aerch are able to afford more luxuries and have as such begun to import blood stock more frequently The korare-abaneth are fierce animals although being herbivores, they are armed with sharp and tick dagger like teeth that line their wide set of teeth. However, these teeth are very brittle and generally break away before the completion of their natural lives, as such the Aerch prefer to prey on those korare-abaneth that are older ad so much lesser of a threat than the younger animals which are not only more aggressive but better armed.
None of the Aerch have ever been killed in feeding on the korare-abaneth but there have been instances where they have caused life threatening injuries. The older animals seem to become more placated with their lot and do not generally fight the kin'toni that try and feed on them and give in with marked resignation.
