Geography

The Undartos monsoon forest was known for its rough terrain and rain-soaked floors that were quite mushy and covered in many green vegetation. A single large river ran its course through the region and would regularly overflow its banks during the heaviest days of rainfall. The soil of the Undartos was known for its fertility and would be brought in by the river each day. The Undartos was filled with many trees that stuck closely to each other and distorted the sunlight that filtered into the forest floors.

Rainfall was very regular in the region, and this combined with the sunlight led to the quick growth of most plants in the region. This led to the overwhelmingly green color of the scenery in the region. The ground conditions of the region made it very difficult to build sturdy structures onto the soil. It could be quite mushy in parts and very unstable, while also prone to flooding when the single large river that ran its course through the region overflooded its banks.

The locals of the region patented many ways of building their houses and structures over raised beams and supports that stood out from above the surface of the ground. This helped them say clear of any unpredictable flooding while also securing them from the many bugs, rodents and snakes that made their home in the moist soil of the Undartos. These structures were usually light and very simple designs that were built to allow maximum airflow into the household to cope with the warmth of the summer months.

Agriculture and cultivation were very ill-suited to the region because of the unpredictability of the floods and the constant rainfall. Thus, the natives of the region practiced agriculture only at a very limited scale in their own backyards or close to their habitats where they could watch over it at all times. The natives were more reliant on a meat-based diet and only used their crops as a compliment to their regular diet. The region was uncomfortably warm during the summers when temperatures could soar as high as the mid-thirties with uncomfortable levels of humidity.

This condition encouraged the growth of many of the region's plants. The natives had adapted to this condition over many centuries and wore little clothes and lived in open habitats with open doors that allowed fresh air to regulate through the house. Rainfall was heavy throughout this season and caused frequent flooding of the region's single river. The winters were only a little different from these uncomfortable summers, the temperatures deviated by some degrees and the humidity would drop to a more comfortable level.

The rainfall would not subside and would continue to fall all over the region. The zu’aan were particularly susceptible to illness during this part of the year due to the sudden temperature changes. Sudden hailstorms were also common during these cold periods and could damage both structures and plants that were not well protected. Large hailstones were also known to cause injuries to many zu’aan who were caught in the open during these storms.

Plants

The Undartos monsoon forest was known for its variety of vegetation that ranged from simple shrubs that dotted the forest floors to the many evergreen trees that covered its landscapes. The vegetation of the region was all adapted to grow in the very oversaturated soil of the region that was covered in puddles and soft with the amount of water that it absorbed every day from the consistent rainfall. Many of the vegetation in the forest floors would be washed away during the periodic flooding of the region but would crop up again once the flood waters subsided, due to the fertility and favorable climatic conditions of the region.

Some of the most common types of vegetation in the region included the evergreen aldr trees, the short and stout udena, the bamboo-like ine'voru and the kelair shrub. The aldr was an evergreen tree that stood out in the region because of its imposing height. The tree could grow to a height of over twenty meters and had a rusty yellowish stem that was thin and tall and had many broad green leaves that helped to deflect the constant rainfall away from itself. The tree would be used for many of the construction activities in the Risiahea City when the zu'aan began to utilize more elaborate and efficient methods of construction.

These trees were known to absorb a large amount of water daily, and were responsible for keeping the soil around them relatively dry- despite the constant rainfall. Its roots also penetrated deep into the soil and could hold the plant stable even when the land was swamped by floodwaters. The udena was a short and stubbier evergreen tree that could grow to a maximum height of over ten meters. The tree could survive flooding like the other trees of the region and its wood was regularly used for construction activities.

It bore fruits that were regularly consumed by both the zu'aan and the regular wildlife of the region. The ine'voru was a bamboo-like plant of the Undartos forest that was known for its widespread use for construction by the zu'aan of the region. It could reach over twenty feet and was known for its strength and resilience as well as the durability of its stem. It was also very light-weight and could be used for building in even the softest surfaces. This made it very valuable for the zu'aan tribes of the region.

The stem of the tree could also be fashioned for a wide variety of purposed, including for use as bottles, weapons and tools. The kelair shrub was an invasive shrub that grew over all surfaces of the Undartos region. It had a darker green color due to the lesser availability of sunlight within the lower levels of the forest. It was a very resilient shrub and could survive in most conditions. The shrub would regularly be washed away by the regular flooding of the region only to regrow once the floodwaters had subsided.

They provided little nutritional value and had very little utility for the zu'aan of the region.

Animals

The Undartos forest was filled with all kinds of animals that occupied all levels of the forest. These animals were adapted to survive in the wet conditions of the region and had to have some amphibious ability to survive the frequent flooding of the region. Certain features of these animals included their thick coats of fur that could withstand and keep out the rain while insulating them from any hypothermia. Some of the most common animals in the region included the ild'augha- a hog like creature that could multiply very quickly.

The imess- a tree dwelling mammal that lived off eggs and nuts, the phoeq frog and the deadly kienurn fish- that was known for its carnivorous diet. The ild'augha was a four limbed mammal, resembling a wild hog that lived within the Undartos forest region. They could grow to a maximum height of three feet and were known for their high fertility rates that could see them multiply quickly and overrun many areas. They were equipped with tusks that they used to gore prey when they felt threatened.

The ild'augha was part of the regular diet of the zu'aan people of the region and the tribes would regularly embark on massive hunts for these animals. These hunts would account for a majority of the injuries among the zu'aan- either from goring wounds and bites. The imess was a large lizard like creature that lived among the treetops of the Undartos forest. It had a skin made of waterproof scales that shielded the animal from the rain. This outside hide was tough and durable while also being pliable.

It was commonly used to construct armor for the zu'aan and was hunted for this purpose. The Imess fed on the all available nutrient sources available on the treetops including eggs, fruits and smaller animals and birds. The phoeq was a native frog of the Undartos forest that lived on the wet banks of the rivers. They were commonly observed on the surface during the daytime where they would show of its bright colored skin and cry their shrill mating calls. The phoeq was known to produce some very deadly poison that was regularly extracted by many native herbalists who would use it against their enemies.

The kienurn was a small fish species that lived in the rivers of the Undartos forest. These fishes lived in large groups and could regularly be spotted from the surface of the water because of their distinctive and bright orange colors. They were known for their carnivorous diet and their predatory instincts. They hunted in packs and would attack any living organism that was unluck enough to find itself in Kiernurn infested waters, including zu’aan and animals that were more than ten times their own size.

Despite these fearsome qualities, they were still considered a delicacy among many zu'aan tribes of the region who would actively set their fishing nets in the rivers in the hopes of catching a large pack of these exotic fishes.
