The Turenth Lush river is a non-aligned Kin’toni city state that is currently governed in the name of the royal Tal Kin'toni Clan. The lush river is an alluvial plain and is said to be among the most beautiful places in all of the Taerel, the city state is a democracy and does not side with any of the Kin’toni nations but is allied with all of the Kin’toni nations and the citizens of the city state are respected all across the lands as they have been able to maintain diplomatic ties without being embroiled in any wars since the time of the Shattering.

Originally the Turenth lush river was a part of the Itkali kingdom, but the Kin’toni of the region petitioned the king and by way of plebiscite were able to separate from the Itkali kingdom. The city state is a direct democracy type of government where in the decisions of the governance of the state are made by the citizens of the Turenth Lush river by casting vote. The criteria for being a citizen of the city is a complex and arduous process and besides those were present at the time of its formation, the city has admitted very few Kin’toni to its citizenry.

On the other hand it is possible to have your citizenship stripped by the authority of the royal family in whose name the government of the city is run. The citizenship can be stripped in situations where an individual disturbs the law and order of the city or looses their financial standing, for in order to be a citizen and participate in the democratic process of the city state it is not enough to simply be of the original residents of the city or to be considered worthy of living in the state.

But there is the added need to strengthen the financial prowess of the state by trade of products of service. The city state does not tax the citizens directly, but instead chooses to tax those individuals that choose to do business with the citizens of the city. All incoming customers are taxed at a standard rate, except the Itkali who are charged a tax at a subsidised rate, however in the past centuries the trade flowing towards the Itkali has been decreasing as they strive for more self sufficiency.

The primary trade or rather the services offered by the people of Turenth is their ability to work metal, the metal shaped by Turenths’ black smiths are said to be finest in all of the Kin’toni lands comparable even to some of the famous Zu’Aan blacksmiths and armourers of old. Besides making deadly weapons and shining armour the Turenth blacksmiths are experts in crafting the most delicate of the metal implements as well, in fact, the chief export to the Itkali has never been swords or breastplates but rather metal hoes and spades, which are supplied to all the villages of the Itkali kingdom.

As a Turenth made tool is not less likely to rust but is always designed to ensure the work is done as effortlessly as possible.

Geography

The climate of the lush river is very similar to the ravines of found in the Ashat kingdom, which is located directly west to the Lush river, and connected to the ravines by means of the river itself. Like the ravines, the water in Turenth is dry throughout the year and wet during the winter, but due to the accessible nature of the river found in the region, the people of the Turenth river are able to irrigate their fields and produce crops throughout the year, in fact the Turenth fields are able to produced three distinct crops within the course of a singular year.

The primary crops grown in the region is paddy by way of rice, and a thriving plantation grape vines that produce wine of the absolute best vintage in the whole Taerel, the rice grown in the region is used to feed the bloodstock they maintain for the local citizenry, and which had been until recently used to supply the royal clan of the Itkali kingdom. In fact even today, a lot of the blood stock harvested in the region is traded to the Itkali themselves, and the earned gold and silver from their kingdom is a precious resource for the citizens as well as the government.

The lush river plains get their name from the evergreen vegetation of the river valley, and is ascribed to the fact that it has several feet deep alluvial plains which is renewed nearly every decade when the river flowing through the valley floods and covers nearly all of the valley floor. This is a natural part of the lifecycle of the river and the people of Turenth have adapted to it, the buildings of the Turenth are all built of stone foundation and are raised several feet off the ground.

Turenth is said to be one of the most beautiful places on the Taerel land, the posted dignitaries all agree that besides the bliss beaches found in the Ashat kingdom, the Turent Lush river is second to none. The nights in the valley are a sight to behold, when the moon and stars are reflected off the gently flowing surface of the vast river, their light is captured all through the marble paved roads and walls of the city state giving the whole city an aura of being unearthly.

When it rains in the valley, the marble roads and buildings are washed a pure white that adds to the reputation of the city. It is commonly said that an invitation to the Turenth Lush River city is like an invitation to the heavens themselves, the people of the city are welcoming of foreigners and treat them with the utmost respect, for it is through the trade of the foreigners that the city state is able to hold its own against giant martial nations like the Ashat and the Itkal.

Plants

The plants found in the lush river are mostly deciduous, in that they do not retain green leaves throughout the course of the year, most plants in the region shed their leaves during the summer months in order to prevent themselves by being dried out by the action of the intense action of the sun in the form of evapotranspiration. They then regain their leaves during the month of autumn and retain them throughout the course of the winter as well as spring, which is when they generally bear fruit.

Most of the trees going in the region are fruit bearing and besides the grapes and citrus fruits that are grown for the purpose of the bloodstock, and as such these fruit bearing trees are conserved only for their natural beauty, and the heady aroma that is produced by the plants in the height of spring. The season of bloom in spring for the fruit bearing trees is a time that is celebrated very enthusiastically by the people of the city for not only is the first bloom of the season visually stunning, but it is also considered to be the anniversary for the founding of the city state. The Tal Kin’toni clan continues to lead the ceremony as was done in the year of the founding of the city state.

The paddy species is another important crop of the region, grown in a unique manner, the paddy cultivation of the region is a practice that has been adopted from the annals of history itself for the Zu’Aan of the region were known to use the Turenth Lush River to grow rice for their own consumption. Upon finding records of the practice, the Kin’toni adopted the practice in order to feed the growing stock of cattle for blood, and the efficiency of the process itself meant that the practice was widely accepted and became a part of the tradition of the Kin’toni themselves.

The curious process of growing the rice involves the growing of the saplings of the plant in a small part of the fields and then once matured, these saplings are transplanted by hand into the fields which is then flooded by water. The crop is very water intensive and thus it would have not been possible to grow the crop without the presence of the river for the purpose of irrigation. The rice produced in the region are not only used for feeding the local blood stock but are also exported to other regions however.

They are by no means the most efficient crop for the raising of blood stock for that role belongs to the wheat and barley that is grown in the steppes of the Ashat kingdom. The rice crop produced from the paddy is far too glutinous and chewy for consumption by cattle raised in other regions like the sun cows of the steppes and the sapien monkeys of the bog, however, the pigs that are kept in the valley seem to enjoy the rice crop the most in comparison to wheat or barley.

Animals

There are several animals that are supported by the natural vegetation of the lush river, and they are is a particular abundance of small mammals that are commonly referred to as mice, and rats. According to the records of Zu’Aan empire, the rats were a terrible menace to their people for they were known to spread several very contagious and life threatening diseases. The Kin’toni do not share the same fear of the tiny things, and allow to live in the fields without paying them too much attention.

The rats however are not allowed in the stores of grain kept for the benefit of the blood stock and generally capture any rats straying into the silos and feed them as part of the diet of the pigs, who particularly seem to enjoy killing and eating live rats rather than eating dead ones. The pigs raised in the region are enormous, they are as large in height as the Kin’toni themselves, their blood is said to be the most savoury of all the animals in the animals that are raised for blood, but it has the shortest life span.

And its taste deteriorates very quickly and although a lot of research has been done to try and improve the quality of stored blood it has been proven to be nearly impossible. At present, most of the Kin’toni like to feed on the pigs when they are live, and the pigs have proven to be very resilient to the strain of being fed on multiple times, however once the pig is no longer able to function and dies of either anaemia or weakness, it is shredded and fed to rest of the pigs who relish the prospect of eating dead animals just as much as they do the rice.

Initially there had been concern that the pigs would not consume a members of their own species, but now it has been made clear that the pig blood stock does not shy away from cannibalism, and since the introduction of the practice in the farming of bloodstock for the lush river pigs, the efficiency of the process has grown significantly and it has also improved the taste of the blood stock itself. The other regions have tried to mirror the example of the lush river pigs by feeding the other animals their own dead but the results have been varied and sometimes horrifying.

For instance in the steppes the experiments were particularly gruesome. The cattle that had been fed with their own dead, did not initially have a problem consuming such fodder but only did so when the meat was ground very finely and mixed with grain. Once the practice became established though, a very large number of the cows began to become severely sick and their lifespan was significantly reduced, the bloodstock produced in the steppes suddenly plummeted as large numbers of the cattle began to die untimely.

And only an emergency intervention by the Pioneer clans’ council saved the rest of the stock. As a result though the practice was outlawed in the Ashat nation.
