Geography
Nercerine Rocky Valley is comprised of a series of large mountains that form around a central valley. This central valley is where most of the plant and wildlife can be found in the region. It is also the home of the local Undmos kin’toni clan. They wander around its edges, mostly aimlessly. The valley also has a large waterfall that originates from the region’s largest river, the Atakan. The Atakan is most well-known for its crystal-clear waters. It begins high up in the region’s tallest mountain, Galanos. It flows down from its high starting point and passes around and through several of the other large mountains.
It also passes through the local zu’aan tribes mountain fortress. It ends at the northern end of the central Nercerine valley. Here it cascades down to the bottom in a massive waterfall. At the bottom it forms into the region’s largest natural lake, Tamatos. Lake Tamatos is mostly murky and covered with native water weed. The water is also very stagnant due to the lack of water flow. Algae is also very prevalent inside the lake. This lake is also a very common spot for the local Undmos kin’toni clan to come. They like having parties beside the lake so they can jump in a have a swim.
The tallest mountain in Nercerine is mount Galanos. This mountain is one of the tallest in Taerel and is famous for its flat peak. Many famous explorers have visited the region just to climb the mountain. According to them the view from atop Galanos is like nothing they had ever seen before. Beneath Galanos lies the main fortress of the local zu’aan tribe. This fortress is located high up on the mountain and is formed from thick stone. The walls are very tall and lined with small holes so that spears can be shoved through them at anyone attempting to scale the walls.
The tops of the walls are lined with small juts to cover archers. There are also pulleys that can drop boiling hot water onto the attackers below. Inside the walls there are several tall towers full of other defences. These towers serve to allow the defenders to survey the mountain below and see if enemy forces are approaching. They also have their own catapults attached which can fling massive rocks harvested from the caves nearby, down at the attackers. Below the towers is the town where all the zu’aan members live.
They farm many animals and plants inside their walls to help them survive. There a many wooden huts for living and storage. All are insulated with fur and wool from native animals to protect against the cold temperatures that occur at such high altitudes. The local Undmos kin’toni clan were unable to pierce the thick walls or the gate. During their attack they attempted to use ladders to scale the walls and attack the defenders. The swarm of arrows and catapulted rocks pushed them back however. After their defeat they marched away and were ambushed at the foot of the mountain by the zu’aan who travelled there through a secret underground entrance.
Plants
Nercerine Rocky Valley is home to a wide variety of plant life. The regions climate is very kind to plants although much of he mountainous land is not suitable. The central Nercerine valley is the main location in which plants grow in the region. There is plenty of rich soil as well as water to help them grow.
Nercerine iirithkr
Nercerine iirithkr is a species of aquatic plant that is native and unique to Nercerine Rocky Valley. These plants are most well-known for almost completely covering the surface of Lake Tamatos. The appear bright green and their roots are a bright orange colour. Their roots usually attach themselves to the floor of lakebed or riverbed. The plant itself is very long and dangles upwards into the current. The Nercerine iirithkr plants can grow to lengths of up to ten metres long. The ones the grow from the bottom of Lake Tamatos can often reach the surface of the lake, even from the deepest points.
Nercerine iirithkr can also grow off of each other, often smaller Nercerine iirithkr plants can be seen with their roots wrapped around another, larger plant. The iirithkr can actually be eaten by local wildlife and is occasionally used by the local Undmos kin’toni clan as clothing.
Nanais
Nanais berry plants are a species of berry plant that are native and unique to Nercerine Rocky Valley. These plants are mostly found in the central valley. The concentrate their growth around the water sites within the valley, these usually include the streams as well as Lake Tamatos. These plants are green in colour and have bright pink leaves. They generally are known for having their colourful display of berries. Each plant can grow berries of three different colours. These berries are perfectly round and usually around the size of a pebble. They can appear either as blue, yellow, or pink.
All the different colours have different tastes and can produce a colourful juice that matches the colour of the berries’ skin. The local Undmos kin’toni clan often use these berries to dye their clothes and faces, as appearance is very important to them.
Batari
Batari are a species of mushroom that are native and unique to Nercerine Rocky Valley. These mushrooms grow in all places throughout Nercerine, even in the mountains. They are hardy mushrooms and do not need much water or sunlight to survive. Batari grow in small clusters of ten to fifteen usually, but they have been known to grow in larger bunches. The mushrooms themselves are short and brown. They do not grow above the height of a kin’toni ankle. They are very strongly attached to whatever surface they grow on and are incredibly hard to remove.
The are quite poisonous to zu’aan but appear to have no affect on kin’toni. The local Undmos clan often use them to decorate their hair or clothes. They also attempted to fling baskets full of them over the walls of the zu’aan fortress during the siege.
Animals
Abisato '
Abisato are a species of mountain roaming insect that are native and unique to Nercerine Rocky Valley. These insects do not live inside solely inside the central valley but do sometimes drop by. Abisato are long and thin insects with long fast-moving legs. They have six of these legs and they propel them forward with incredible speed. The local Undmos kin’toni clan refer to these insects as 'runner beetles'. These insects have black bodies and do not have wings, instead they just run fast. Their heads are a darker shade of brown and contain a large pincer which holds its food while it slowly eats.
They roam the mountains in Nercerine looking for mushrooms to feed off. When they find one, they simply tear off each mushroom individually until they are satisfied. They then insert their small mushrooms into their pincer and spend a few hours slowly chewing through them. Often abisato will feed on several mushroom bunches each day.
Darnaros
Darnaros are a species of bird that are native and unique to Nercerine Rocky Valley. These birds live only inside the boundaries of the central valley. Darnaros grow to be around a metre in height. They have very wide wings which are covered in white and grey feathers. Their feathers are white all over their bodies and their beaks are a black. They feed on the grass and other vegetation that grows inside the valley. They can fly quite fast and rarely land which makes it difficult for the local zu'aan tribe to catch them. The zu’aan want to eat them and they often try to catch the Darnaros.
The zu'aan have to venture into the central valley to do this however, which makes it dangerous.
Munstera
Munstera are a species of reptile that are native and unique to Nercerine Rocky Valley. They have black scales and long but thick bodies. They are the largest predators in Lazese but are usually very harmless to the local kin'toni. They live only inside the central valley where they feed on the local wildlife. They can grow to lengths of up to five metres long. Their mouths can open very wide and sometimes they just consume their prey whole. They have razor sharp teeth designed for chewing through bone.
Their jaws are very powerful and can cause damage to a kin’toni or zu’aan that threatens them and in many cases take off an entire limb. They usually stick to themselves beneath the undergrowth in the valley. They like to stay near the water streams inside the central valley so they don’t have to go far to get a drink.
