Geography

The Geography of the Miarma Prairie was dominated by large stretches of flat grassland. The Prairie had no sharp features such as steep inclines or cliffs and most of the terrain was comprised of soft rolling hills and plains. The eastern side of the region was slightly more elevated, with elevated features such as hills- while the western end was composed of strictly flat plains. Most of the prairie was filled with wild grasses and overgrown weeds that grew naturally while the cultivable lands near habitats were sown with edible crops.

The region had an abundance of large Ro through trees that covered the surface of these featureless plains. These trees were not indigenous to the region but were planted by the earliest settlers and farmers as obstacles against the raging winds and shade for their crops. The region was well-drained by the Miarmat river and its tributaries that flowed across the entire length of the region before draining into the Myrithal swamps just to the west of the region. The river was responsible for bringing in the new soil deposits from upriver and contributed to the fertility of the region.

The river was also navigable year-round and allowed people to travel to the remote interiors of the Miarma Prairie. It was a cheaper and more efficient means of travel for most clans and resulted in the rise of many settlements along its banks. The plain and flat geography of the region made it very friendly to navigate. Many clans and tribes constructed their roads and pathways over centuries. These paths were constructed in a variety of styles but mostly from natural elements found in the region.

These included broken rocks and pebbles that were sprinkled over the ground to create hard surfaces or cobbled roads among the more advanced populations and even rudimentary mud paths. The existence of this wide network of roads facilitated the easy transportation of both goods and passengers and contributed to the growth of the population and trade in the region. The Miarma experienced a temperate climate with temperatures remaining within acceptable limits for most of the year.

The conditions were ideal for both zu'aan and kin'toni habitation while also supporting a variety of crops. The two main seasons in the region were summer and winter. The summers in Miarma were warm and humid with lots of rainfall that could occasionally flood the Miarmat river. The timing of these rainfalls was crucial for farmers who regularly depended on them for their crops. The region would sometimes experience abnormal heatwaves during the summers that could result in an area of low pressure developing over the prairie and causing destructive storms.

These storms could make for spectacular sights with large vortexes of black mass extending from the skies and destroying large crop fields and any obstacles in their path. In winter, the region grew cold and bleak and lost much of its natural light. The region regularly experienced light snowfall for a few weeks of winter but was otherwise, mostly tolerable.

Plants

The fertile Miarma Prairie was home to a wide variety of plants and vegetation. The region's moderate temperature along with regular seasonal rainfall meant that plants received all their requirements for growth. The plants in this region were usually coloured in bright colours and contained pigments that allowed them to absorb the regions bountiful sunlight. Some of the most common vegetation in the region included the through trees, the dander, the verily and the kalightos plant.

The Rothrough was the most common type of tree in the Miarma Prairie and accounted for at least 85% of the tree population in the region. The Rothrough was indigenous to the region and easily distinguishable by its bright yellow leaves that appeared in squarish shapes. They were covered in a thick layer of leaves and could completely block out the sunlight in some parts. The rothrough's roots were thick and strong and buried deep into the ground to withstand the occasional storms that passed through the region.

The trees also produced a sour fruit that could stave off hunger and thirst and did not spoil easily. The fruit was enjoyed by the local populations as breakfast and was regularly carried by campers and adventurers as a makeshift meal. The round benefits of the rothrough made them sacred to some cultures within the Miarma where they were worshipped as a deity. The dandar was a common crop found in the Miarma Prairie. It produced an elongated set of edible seeds at the ends of its stalk that could be cooked into gruel or milled into flour in the more advanced clans.

These crops were susceptible to changes in weather conditions and extremes of rainfall, temperature and pests; making them a care-intensive crop that required the constant attention of farmers. However, most cultures continued to plant and rely on it because the payoff from a successful batch was very high. The Verildshy was a common grass that grew on any kind of ground. It was regarded as an invasive species because of its ability to take over any piece of land if left unchecked.

The blades of the verildshy grass were a distinctive purple along with the tips which faded into a light green at its stalks. Their roots were embedded deep into the earth and required a concentrated application of force before they could be pulled clean off the ground, this was part of their natural adaptation to combat the seasonal storms that plagued the region. Most of the Prairie fields were covered in these extremely resilient grasses from centuries of uncontrolled growth.

The kalightos was a rare tree that grew in some spots along the Miarma Prairie. It was known for its large and sturdy trunk that yielded strong and water-resistant wood. The wood was a distinctive dark red and would darken with age. It was the wood of choice among boat builders and craftsmen who preferred the superior quality of the wood. Due to its rarity, the kalightos fetched a handsome price in most markets.

Animals

The wildlife in the Miarma Prairie reflects the needs of their vast, flat surroundings. The region was home to predators with unnatural bursts of speeds that they used to catch prey off guard. Creatures with pace and speed ruled the roost in these lands; being slow in the Miarma was equivalent to a quick death. The most prominent wildlife in the region included the predatory orpolo, the phund and the domesticated denmosy. The orpolo was an agile four-legged mammal that occupied the top of the food chain in the Miarma Prairie.

They had a long and slender figure that was a little longer than the length of a full-grown kin'toni, approximately eight feet. Their body was covered in strong, prominent muscles that were accentuated by the protective layer of fat and thick fur. They were capable of generating a lot of power from their powerful hind legs that allowed them to sprint at great speeds and gave them incredible leaping abilities. They relied on their long and retractable four-inch claws to latch on to their prey after which they finished them off with their protruding teeth that were razor sharp and able to tear through flesh and bone alike.

They were very aggressive and territorial beasts that operated alone or in pairs. They had highly developed predatory senses and could track their prey over miles along with utilizing flanking manoeuvres and stealth. They were rarely killed in the wild due to their great defensive abilities and their elusiveness. Their claws and teeth were prized relics among hunters looking to make their name. The phund was a native bird species that stood at over five-and-a-half-foot above ground. They were bipedal and rarely resorted to flying unless in case of emergency.

Their long sinewy legs could propel them as fast as other land creatures, allowing them to avoid deadly predators and helping them catch prey themselves. Their hardened beaks were sharp and lined with ribbed teeth that they used to break apart smaller prey. They had colourful plumes that were a necessary part of many traditional attires and was one of the reasons why they were regularly hunted along with their deliciously fatty meat. They travelled in packs and were loathed by farmers due to their ability to take over large swathes of land and decimate crop fields.

The denmosy was a four-legged mammal that was regularly domesticated and used as a mount among most zu'aan clans. They stand almost six feet off the ground and were covered by smooth leathery skin with layers of soft muscle and fat beneath. This gave riders a comfortable experience, sometimes causing no blisters even after day-long journeys. They were swift and could handle carrying loads above twice their weight. In the wild, the denmosy have basic predatory instincts and regularly hunt other animals but become passive and subdued, once domesticated.

They make ideal mounts due to their ability to exist on almost any kind of diet and the minimal amount of maintenance that goes into their care.
