The cold and dark land of Lyeolor Tundra is a large stretch of land mass that is spread across the boundary between the frigid zone and the temperate zone of the earth, it is one of the largest divisions of the kin'toni nation called Itkal, which is led and ruled by the Valsok Kin'toni Clan, who draw their lineage as being that of one of the purest, all of the members of the Valsok kin'toni clan belong to only the first and second waves of conversion. Since the conversions of the second generation, the Valsok have not included any other kin'toni to their number.
The Valsok’s kingdom is vast but its largest region is the Tundra, and their holy capital is located within this region. The study of the Tundra cannot be done without the study of the Vaskol themselves. The rule of Vaskol in the region is absolute, although they maintain cordial relations with most of the other kin'toni nations, they have waged several wars against them, their most frequent adversary has been the Ashat kin'toni nation which is ruled by an oligarchy calling themselves the Pioneer clans’s council.
The cause for the frequent wars between the two nations of kin'toni has been based on ideology, the Ashat claim to be ruled by a coalition of clans that supposedly rose during the first wave of kin'toni conversions and so claim the responsibility of leading the kin'toni people, however, the ruling clan of the Itkal nation disputes their claims. Unlike the Pioneer clans’ council the Valsok clan does not admit newly converted kin'toni into their ranks, their numbers have only decreased with the passing of time, since they are consumed with the matters of administration, they do not actively convert zu'aan themselves.
Even when the rare occurrence does come about the resulting kin'toni are assigned to one of the noble kin'toni clans within the nation rather tan being a part of the clan whose member carried out the conversion. This change in tradition is one of the biggest points of conflict for the nations of Itkal and Ashat, who claim that the Itakli violate the doctrine of the founding of the kin'toni and therefore forfeit the right to govern. On the other hand, the Itkali ruling claim that the blood of the founders has been severely diluted in the ruling clans of the Ashat and few members if any remain who can truly draw their lineage to the actual founding.
Although their conflicts are often settled on the battlefield, the Itkali and Ashat maintain very robust trading ties, as the size of their nations have allowed them to manufacture goods and services that are essential to the successful running of an empire. The Itkali nation is rich with mines of gold, silver and copper, while the Ashat have some of the best blood stock cattle across the Taerel. The trade between the two nations is thoroughly regulated, and only occurs through specific checkpoints on the border on assigned days as well as festivals and celebrations.

Geography
The geography of the tundre is unique, it is extremely cold nearly all year round with a very short season of summer, the summer is not particularly hot while the winter is extremely cold and it is nearly impossible to go out into the open without several layers of clothing in order to prevent frostbite. Although the kin'toni are superior to the zu'aan in many ways, the way cold affects the kin'toni and the zu'aan is not that different, both species are susceptible to frost bite which can lead to gangrene and loss of limb.
Besides having a staple diet of blood, the kin'toni of the tundre are required to drink a spirit prepared from the fermentation of tubers that are able to grow even in the harsh environment of the tundra. The spirit in question is a recent development, and only became part of the staple diet in the last century or so, and only did so after the King made a formal declaration that commanded all Itkali to ensure they learnt the preparation of the spirit and at least consumed one cup of it during the winter season.
The harsh cold of the region is due to the winds that originate from the northern pole of the planet, which completely frozen over now, and as the ice age has begun to set in again, the winters are colder every year. In the heart of winter, it snows on a daily basis, as such the villages of the Itkali kingdom are composed of several wooden structures that are built with tightly fighting planks of wood that keep the weather outside, these structures are also made for the keeping of the blood stock that is required to be kept by all the villages independently.
The wood that is used for the building of these structures is imported from other nations and other regions of the Itkali kingdom. The soil of the tundre is inaccessible due to the presence of permafrost on the grounds, and as such even the floors of the habitations of the animals and kin'toni are raised platforms of wood that help keep the habitations warm from the impossible cold of the tundra. The cold in the region is heightened due to the polar vortex that is formed on the stratosphere, a phenomena that has kept the region safe from the invasion of the flying kin'toni of the adversaries.
The Itkali have no clans of flying kin'toni and this disadvantage of the nation is prevented from being too overpowering as the atmosphere in the skies changes very quickly and makes it nearly impossible for the large kin'toni to stay in formation or maintain course in the devastatingly cold weather of the stratosphere found above the tundre. As such although the tundre is a very difficult place to live, it has allowed the Itkali to survive against other nations that would have found it easy to invade them from above at multiple points and thereby weaken their hold of the land.
Plants
The tundre is no place for plant life, whatever vegetation does grow in the tundre is either extremely stunted to point of non-existent or completely invisible to the naked eye. The most recent development in the region has been the discovery of root tubers that seem to be able to grow in the most impossible of cold spells in the region, seeming to only require solid not covered with permafrost and cubes of frozen yak’s blood to nourish them. These tubers are utilised to form the spirit by fermentation and distillation that has become ever more important in the growing cold of the tundra.
The spirit concoction is consumed with blood and helps keep the kin'toni warm even when working out in the snows. Besides the tubers called the milk oranges, so called due to the foul white substance they seem to produce upon fermentation which eventually turns to the needed spirit, little else grown in the tundre. The blood cattle kept by the kin'toni is fed on slabs of lichen which is a mat like plant that grows all across the tundra on the surface of the ground or rock despite the presence of a snow cover.
The lichen seems to require little in the way of nutrition and derives moisture from the snow around it, although it does not seem to require a lot of sunlight, it grows most abundantly during the months of summer. The Itkali believe that the lichen does not actually grow in the winter, but only grows during the summer, but the Shepherd hides some of the growing lichen for the use of the Itkali people later in time for when it is required most. During the summers, when some of the lands in the tundra have thawed.
The kin'toni plant grasses that are grown for the benefit for their blood cattle, the grasses do not grow to any significant lengths and require a lot of Yak manure in order to grow to an significant level. Although there is little assistance that is provided by the king to the villages in all other situations, an exception is made when a village is unable to grow enough grass to support the population of its ayoa (yak-analongs). In such a scenario, the priests despatch a runner to the closest node of the kingdom’s network of roads.
From there a messenger bird is sent to the province capital where silos are kept for the use of emergency shortages. Additional stocks of grass are sent from the province capital to the village facing the shortage, but this shortage must be paid for by the village by an increased ration of gold and warriors that must be centre to the kingdom capital the following season. In certain cases the price is so significant, that the priest may choose to kill some of the ayoa and put the village on half rations until the next season, this is another example of the incredible cohesiveness and loyalty of the Itkali society.
Animals
There are very animals found in the tundre naturally, and the kin'toni of the region have introduced a large herbivore animal that has been able to survive in the terrible cold of the tundre, this animal is called the ayoa. The ayoa is a large bovine with a thick fur coat, in fact, it actually has two coats of hide, the soft pure white coat of fine hairs is the undercoat which traps most of the air, and creates a fine layer of insulation that prevents the loss of heat in the most frigid of conditions.
The coat that exists above the fine hairs is the crosier set of dark brown hair that protects the coat beneath from being disturbed as well as prevents the animal from being affected by precipitation whether this be in the form of fog, frost, snow or sleet. Besides being the primary source of food to the kin'toni people, the kin'toni also use the animal’s hide to craft coats and furs that they themselves like to wear when required to work in the cold. The ayoa is a bovine animal and so requires mainly a diet of grass in order to survive.
Over the years of cultivation, the ayoa raised by the Itkali have evolved in that they are able to survive off the incredibly tough plant of lichen, not only is lichen very difficult to digest, it is not very nutritious. In order to overcome this challenge with the Lichen, the ayoa has multiple stomachs where it is able to store the lichen to slowly be broken down and chew again the bits of lichen that have not been properly digested in the form of cud. Lastly, it is important to point out that due to sparsity of game in the region.
The kin'toni of the Tundre are among one of the handful clans that depend as much on cooked flesh as they due on the consumption of blood in order to survive. No part of the ayoa is wasted, in order to produce one ounce of ayoa the kin'toni of the village have to work nearly three hours, and they cannot afford to waste the flesh produced with that amount of time or they would not be able to survive. As such the blood of the ayoa is generally mixed with ayoa flesh and is cooked with water and other traditional ingredients found in the tundra.
This is until the meat decomposes enough to break into bits of flesh that can be drunk, visiting dignitaries have called the traditional food of the Itkali extremely pungent and impossible to consume, although the Itkali do not claim to consume their food for the pleasure of taste, they do seem to hold it in high esteem and consider it a mark of their resilience that even in the circumstance of the most averse nature, the kin'toni are not only able to survive but are able to hold in battle against kin'toni raised in softer lands with better resources and supplies.
