==Geography ==

Within the Zarak Snowy Coniferous Forest, there are many sights to see. For starters, Zarak is a mountain range, and some of the mountains are incredibly breathtaking. One of the taller peaks that lies on the western side of Zarak is named Zonia. Zonia stands high above most of the other peaks and appears to stand alone, as the other tall peaks of Zarak are located some distance away from Zonia. This peak comes to a very obvious point; its appearance is like on that is out of a painting. The kin’toni of the land are adrenaline junkies. They enjoy skiing and cliff diving.

The most dangerous of ski paths can be found on Zonia’s peak. Getting to the top of the peak is dangerous as is, but actually skiing down the peak of the mountain reaches a whole new level of danger. If the kin’toni of the area were not so durable, the journey down would kill them. There are many cliffs in the area that the kin’toni make use of. Most, if not all, of these cliffs, will be found on the sides of mountains where some earthquake or landslide probably took off that portion of the mountain. The cliffs, similar to the peak of Zonia, are extremely dangerous.

Most of the cliffs that the Xildun kin’toni clan dive from don’t even lead to anything. These kin’toni clan members are just diving into the forest and shrubbery beneath them. The canopy of trees breaks their fall, but it is still not the comfiest of landing zones. A few of the common jumping cliffs, ones mostly found in the southern region of Zarak, drop off into a large lake below. These are the more popular cliffs, as they are higher up in elevation, and the fall is a lot longer, and in turn, scarier. Now, the lakes of Zarak are some of the most stunning sights in the region.

The larger lakes are found in the southern region, and those are the lakes that are cliff-dived into. The southern lakes have an average diameter of 200 feet. In the summer the water is still frigid but it glitters under the summer moon. During the winter, however, is when these lakes are at their most beautiful. The snow and winter sun make the whole lake area sparkle. When it gets cold enough and the lakes freeze they are sometimes used for ice skating and fishing. A sophont geographical feature of the land is the boundaries that can be found Zarak that divide the area in kin’toni and zu’aan controlled.

Some of these borders are marked with geographical features; for instance, Zonia is a border marker between zu’aan and kin’toni land, where the kin’toni control the peak. In other areas, a lake or break in the trees will signify where a border lies; like in some parts of the southern region. These borders are important because if a zu’aan leaves their area, they are at the mercy of the kin’toni.

== Plants ==

Zarak Snowy Coniferous Forest is abundant in flora and fauna. There are many different types of plant life that exist in the forest. Since the forest is coniferous, the leaves of trees never fall, and the plant life rarely goes through changes. Even in the freezing winter, Zarak Snowy Forest is always green. Some of the plant life does die during the winters, however. One of these plants is the vieap. Vieap is a type of fruit-producing vine and has been said to produce some of the best fruit and wine in Taerel. Vieap vines are climbers, so they grow from the ground and then up the nearest structure.

The main stem is a brilliant green that has both leaves and flowers on it that are a gorgeous addition to the location during the summertime. The vieap fruit grows on the end of the arms that grow out of the main stem. The fruit normally takes the place of the flowers that grow in spring, and the fruit can be seen and picked throughout the entire summer. A coniferous tree that is commonly found in Zarak is the snowy ivorna tree. These are certainly the largest trees that grow in Zarak; both in height and volume. ivorna trees commonly grow to be about 200 feet tall, with the larger ones reaching around 250 feet in height.

Their trunks average to be 10 feet wide. ivorna have branches that sweep gracefully in a downward motion, forming a triangular look on the tree. The leaves are needles, this contributes to the tree remaining green year-round. The bark is a cinnamon-red color. When the region is covered in a blanket of white snow, these trees certainly stick out amongst the others due to the odd color of the bark. During the late autumn, some of the needles fill with seeds that fall off the tree and help to grow the ivorna population come the next spring. Another coniferous plant that grows in Zarak is the inabor.

This plant is a small tree or larger shrub, that can be found all throughout the forest. Some call the inabor a tree, and others have decided that it is more of a shrub, so it is commonly referred to as either. These plants only grow to be about 10 feet in height but have no distinguishable bark or tree characteristics, hence the debate on whether or not inabor is a tree or shrub. The wood that is found on the plant is reddish-brown, leaning more towards a brown color than a red. The branches adorning the tree are large and spread out wide, some droop due to their weight.

Inabor have been recorded to live abnormally long lives, and have actually lived out quite a few of the native tribal zu’aan members. There are many more other flora and fauna that can be found in the forest, this is just a small list of the most commonly seen and used plants.

== Animals ==

Zarak Snowy Coniferous Forest is home to many animals. Due to the normal freezing temperatures that occur during the winter, all of these creatures have adapted to survive the forest. Just one of those creatures is the Zarak yaertin. Yaertin can be found all over Taerel, are are frequently found in the colder forests that exist all throughout the world. However, the Zarak yaertin has specially adapted to living in the cold temperatures of the snowy forest. Zarak yaertin have white fur that acts as a thick coat covering the even thicker layer of fat that keeps them insulated during the brutal winters.

The coat and fat is so thick that the yaertin do not need to hibernate or seek shelter in the winter; they can continue about their daily lives unaffected by the plummeting temperatures. These yaertin are huge. Their paws specifically have been compared to be the size of a zu’aan child. Adoring those huge paws are powerful claws: strong, sharp, and able to grasp whatever prey it is after. There is not a lot of difference between male and female Zarak yaertin. Males tend to be a little bigger than females, but besides that, there is virtually no difference between the two.

On their furry heads are small little ears, this is to prevent their ears from getting cold and freezing. Another creature that can be found in the snowy region of Zarak is the oremo. The oremo found in Zarak are quite similar to their Usk’yer Cold Roofed Forest Hills relatives. These oremo, however, have adapted to exist in colder temperatures. These oremo have white fur instead of the light brown fur of their Usk’yer relatives. However, like their relatives, the oremo of Zarak are also quite docile and only consume the flora and fauna of the area.

The horn that is found adorning the Zarak oremo are a little larger than their relatives, as they have more room to prance around in the forest. Zarak oremo have thicker coats, a feature that they adapted to survive the harsher temperatures. Finally, a smaller creature of Zarak, is the veraben. Veraben are little creatures that live mostly in and near the lakes of Zarak. They have stocky bodies with a dark brown, almost black coat. They also have a flat and scaly tail which helps them swim in the frigid water. Their webbed feet are another trait that helps them swim. Veraben move between the water and land depending on the season.

When it is winter, and the lakes are frozen over, they move into the bases of trees to hibernate and keep warm. In the warmer seasons, when they lake is no longer frozen, they build homes on the edges of lakes that can be easily accessed from the water, but put up quite the defense from intruders attempting to enter from the land. This helps them keep safe from wandering predators. They are mostly aquatic animals and when they walk on land it appears awkward.
