== History ==

The history of Yerir Cold Roofed Forest Hills begins with its first settlers. During the Ancient Age, nomadic groups roaming the region stumbled upon this forest. At first sight, it looked like a normal forest with a strangely hot terrain compared to its atmosphere, a very welcomed surprise because the surrounding of the forest is a very cold environment. This is how the first zu’aani called this place their home. Skipping a few hundead years and going into the Middle Ages, it was clear that these hills were a key point for the region. The cold air from the nearby mountains blowing a constant chill onto the land didn’t make it easy and the nearby lake outside of the forest didn’t help either.

This made the forest the centre of attention of many kingdoms. Many tried to conquer the land but the sparse groups managed to unite and endure the attacks in a defensive position and wait for the cold to take the resolve of the invading soldiers. This tactic was very effective, especially if we take into account the fact that the natives used water as their main weapon. Everybody laughed at first and their smile got frozen in the end. This tactic and their creative ways of throwing water gave birth to many myths about how the water mages came from this place. The most common “spell” these mages had, if we count the rumours as true, was how they were able to keep the water unfrozen under such harsh coldness.

This earned the respect of many kingdoms and made the entire region of Yerir theirs. In the later years, the growing population in Yerir Cold Roofed Forest Hills began to explore the world for new opportunities and cultural exchange. Most of the adventurers from this place ended up as mercenaries for the cold regions, treating the coldness in other lands as how summer’s beach is treated by the average zu’aan. This only intensified the rumors about them being ice or water mages. During the Early Modern Ages, the economic boom in the community of Yerir grew the little country into an extremely developed one thanks to the political ties and extremely scary rumors about their soldiers. Fun fact, the common soldier in their ranks was capable of ignoring extremely cold environments for a short while, it would have killed a normal zu’aan in the time they started shivering, which would have given them the medal of “Ice Wizard”, an old tradition at this point.

This economic boom was not stopped for many reasons such as the picturesque view of the forest, geological activities underneath the soil which kept it warm in this coldness, special plants and tree leaves that would work as natural insulation, and the “donations” to the politicians for their help in “Peace Keeping” in other countries by having certain individuals go on a “Mind Changing Journey”. Yerir Cold Roofed Forest Hills was one of the strongest countries standing against the kin’toni outbreak, holding a strong grasp of the Yerir region even in the present day with their nomadic groups, which is quite the feat against the Mos’vor kin’toni. Mos’vor kin’toni are the kin’toni version of “Live, Laugh, Love” of religions in today’s world, blindly following the voices in their head which can vary from “Sleep my darling” to “Let us start a crusade”.

Commonly referring to said voices as “Father” or “Blood”. Writing a book about their idiotic behaviour would make a good drop of gold for my pouch.

== Geography ==

The geography of Yerir Cold Roofed Forest Hills begins with its outer environment. Being enveloped in the harsh coldness of the northern region, it is one of the coldest places known even for the cold regions. This is possible thanks to the northern winds blowing from the mountain into the nearby lake with the winds going into the forest. With the weather of the region being dominantly clouded, it doesn’t help with the temperatures going under zero easily. Despite so, the temperatures inside of the forest itself hold into a steady livable range for most of life. This is thanks to the special plants and underground hot waters going through the region. This underground river passes near a source of magma which heats it while keeping the temperature of the magma under the exploding range.

The heat from the soil is not the only reason for the temperatures being on the brighter side, the vegetation of this place also has its say in this matter. With the passing of millions of years in this type of environment, the vegetation has adapted to this coldness by creating natural insulation around its delicate parts, with some being able to insulate their entire body. Viewing the forest from the inside would make you think it is a normal forest with a very thick forest roof and cold winds but it is in a cold environment. Thanks to the insulating ability of the forest, be it from the roof of the forest or the side of it, the winds reach into a warm breeze when reaching the middle of the woods.

Thanks to this, the zu’aan had an easier place to live, even by the forest’s standards. The insulation from the leaves of the trees has reached near-perfect capabilities to stop the winds thanks to the snow piling on the roof. This insulation made it possible to have a snow-covered roof while having some warmth, by the region’s standards, while not melting the snow thanks to the leaves insulating the heat. Being on the calmer side, the fauna of Yerir Cold Roofed Forest Hills consists of mostly herbivores roaming the region with the occasional northern shu’bite keeping the leaf eater’s numbers in check. Yerir Cold Roofed Forest Hills is also characterized by its undulating topography. The hills feature a series of gentle slopes, and rolling elevations, which contribute to the creation of breathtaking valleys and ravines.

The nearby lake, Yerir Lake, is the only big body of water in the region. With the ruins of the civilization on the northern front, it is a beautiful sight to show how nature finds a way to reclaim the things we borrowed. In the forest are located various locations which today are used as gathering spots for animals. These spots are the remains of the buildings used to heat the surroundings through the extraction of the heat from the soil. By no means was this harmful to the environment when planned or when built, or the activists would had their voices heard for sure.

== Plants ==

The flora of the Yerir Cold Roofed Forest Hills is quite interesting. Having many relatives around the world, it is the only one that hasn’t changed much by the environment except for insulating itself.

Morning’s Kiss is the most iconic plant life with the above-mentioned characteristics. The name derives from the old language “Mat’to giacio”. The actual translation of the old name was not Morning’s Kiss but due to its name being so well spread, it was kept as such. The reasoning behind the old name was that its leaves not only could perfectly slip liquid but if frost was created atop the leaves, it could be detached easily and used as an emergency weapon. During the winter this plant adopts the generic look of the common grass found throughout the world and when summer comes this plant’s leaves become strips of color as it blooms the white of its petals.

The special boreal tree of Yerir is one of the most common trees of this climatic region. It is characterized by its ability to shed all the needed parts from its trunk and keep only the important parts sheltered from the cold, such as the parts that have already been successfully insulated. All year round, the branches will hold the leaves which keep the snow, insulating the freezing winds coming from above.

The rarest plant offers is, ironically, the common grass during the winter. Despite its name, the plu grass is the hardest to find plant during winter as all the other plants would start to enter their freeze-resisting state, which is the plu grass.

One of the foulest plants in these lands is the “Rotting Corpse”. It got its name not from the old language used by the indigenous Zu’aan but by the scientists themselves, and later on, was noted that the old Zu’aan also referred to this plant with a similar name. The name came as the stench of this plant was equal, if not greater, to a corpse rotting under the sun. By no means was there a corpse, there was no anomaly with the plant. This was its natural state to repel animals but it backfired as insects started eating it. Instead of changing its strategy through evolution, it became a parasite that controlled the insects that ingested it and the insects would act as a walking seed. Wherever the insect would die, it would count as an extra seed planted.

There are many more plants with interesting features in Yerir such as Medic’s grace, lover’s heart, Michael’s tear, and Acid Bath.
Medic’s Grace is a plant that produces a thick and sticky substance that disinfects and stops bleeding. Lover’s heart is a fruit that grows only by a specific tree species at a specific time of the year and it is said that only true commitment can earn a taste of it. Michael’s tear is a blue nut resembling a tear, extremely salty.

As the same suggests, Acid Bath is a plant that produces acid in its “Belly” with a certain smell that attracts insects and small animals to fall into its stomach and dissolve.

Despite showing only so little, the plant life of this place has become vaster to overcome the challenges of the weather and nature’s predators. Some growing spikes with poison and some being with simply poison.

== Animals ==

One of the cousins of the shu’bite, the Gray Shu’Bite is one of the more dominant predators in Yerir Cold Roofed Forest Hills. They live in packs and play a crucial role in maintaining the region’s ecological balance. Gray Shu’Bite has been both feared and respected, featuring prominently in folklore and indigenous culture.

The Soft Paw is a carnivorous feline that specializes in hunting silently on snowy lands. Thanks to its thick fur, covering especially its limbs, it can move on a snow-covered land without making sounds. Thanks to these special paws, these animals have been a nuisance to Zu’aan due to their hiding abilities, stealing rations, and killing tamed critters that had a use in survival. The sizes of these animals are not large which made them not a direct threat to the inhabitants of the land.

The Horned Winds. These herbivores live at the heights of the Urialey Mountains, specifically the parts that have a very steep surface. Thanks to their hoofs, the horned winds can move almost freely through these impossible walls and live an overall, predator-free life. The only predator that has a constant possibility of attacking and killing these animals are birds of prey. The reason why they are called the horned winds is that they could move through those impossible places as if they were the wind itself.

The elusive Vog’Bite, also known as Cold Claw, inhabits the southern parts of the Yerir Cold Roofed Forest Hills. It is one of the largest feline species and has faced significant threats due to habitat loss and poaching. Efforts have been made to protect and preserve the endangered species before the dark ages and the number grew along with the efforts of the Zu’aan people. Today they are a threat to the ones who roam the land and a gift to the ones skilled enough to kill them.

The “Lepuri” is a herbivore that primarily feeds on grass. Its appearance is like a white snowball with fur when idling. Despite looking like nothing but a ball to be fed on, this animal is quite agile. The speed that it can reach is way faster than any other animal recorded in these hills. Despite looking like a ball, it’s all fur. This animal has mainly bones in its limbs and all the fat is stored inside its belly. Its strongest feature is its hearing. If a branch cracks, the animal will know it. Even though it can run fast or have a keen hearing sense, it can’t keep up the speed for an extended amount of time.

These are just a few examples of the diverse animal life that has shaped the history and cultural traditions of Yerir Cold Roofed Forest Hills. The interaction between Zu’aan and these animals has been deeply intertwined, with hunting, hearing, and folklore playing significant roles in the relationship between people and wildlife in the region with few rare cases of packs of animals living alongside Zu’aan as equals.
