== History ==

Yeme Decideous Forest Hills, growing surrounded by a dry region, strongly contrasts its surroundings. Its green and tall view from outside is like a gift to whoever was in need rest hidden from the sun. The same green view that could have been seen since the Stone Age was preserved throughout its natural cycle. During the Stone Age, when the natives were the dominant inhabitants, the vegetation of the forest was at its peak. The trees were giving the illusion of being able to hold the sky and the vegetation growing on the trees looked as if they wanted to help. The height of the trees in this forest can reach up to 200 meters on average with tree trunks that reach 40 meters in radius.

These humongous trees were the backbone of the societies that lived in Yeme Deciduous Forest Hills, being used as living houses and using the smaller branches as stairs to descend to the forest floor. Being full of fruits from the parasitic trees living on the big trees, it was a perfect place for the indigenous people. As the years passed, the connection of the natives with the special forest grew to the point where they could build a village spamming a few trees, not in just one trunk. With the coming of the settlers from distant lands, “Njerez”’ was the nickname given to the natives of this place by the outsiders which means “Nature People”.

With the passing of the decades, more and more people learned about the Yeme Forest, and with the spreading of the word of this place, greed followed along. Many groups of many sources tried to conquer this place but to no avail for a simple reason. The zu’aani who lived in this forest were so much in unity with the land that they, for lack of a better phrase, tamed the wilderness while keeping it wild. Their tactics of marking the enemy with a certain smell made them the center of the entire forest, be it insects, animals, or carnivore plants. Molded by the natives, the forest became their weapon. The above-mentioned tactic was a very effective way to fend off outsiders during the Middle Ages.

During the end of the Middle Ages, this tactic was not as effective as before so they accepted the requests of alliance from the neighboring places to give protection so they would be taught the secrets of the forest. This was the history of the independence of Yeme Deciduous Forest, which was held as such until the full merge of the forest’s territory with the benefactor country in the early Modern Age. As centuries passed, the preservation attempts for the forest were the most heard opinions from all the zu’aan who lived there independent from which epoch they were living in. Being kept as a hellish paradise thanks to its dangers and beauties, it was the greatest gathering spot for all sorts of professions that would focus on plants, poison, insects, or animals. With the fall of the zu’aani civilization, the forest didn’t change much.

All the buildings were built with living plants and all the animals returned to the wild. The most common kin’toni living here is the animalistic kind. It has managed to learn how to navigate the trees in search of the few zu’aan who are still living there.

== Geography ==

Growing on top of numerous hills, surrounded by dryland, the geography of Yeme Deciduous Forest begins with its positioning. The surrounding terrain of the forest doesn’t accommodate the growth of new plants with a few of the growing evolving in holding their ground and not spreading. Thanks to these circumstances the forest of Yeme holds itself as a paradise in these lands that lack water. Resembling a cube from the outside, the outer part of the forest is a mirror to the hellish paradise inside with the countless insects carrying their dinner to a safe place for consumption. The ecosystem inside of the forest is quite strange. Despite being so big, it is very quiet.

The huge trees work as housing for the forest’s dwellers and turn them into deadly traps. This paradise is a hell in a green dress after close inspection. With the hundreds of thousands of livable houses grown into the giant trees turning into housing the giant insects, the heights of the trees became the heart of the hell in the forest, leaving the forest’s floor safer. The soil of the forest is a mixture of sand and dirt, unlike the other parts of Yeme where it is all unfertile sand, making it somewhat livable for plants but the true gem is deep into the ground. The giant trees need a lot of nutrients, and these nutrients are found roughly 30 meters deep. The eldest tree has been documented to be able to reach the heart of that place.

Dominantly being a sunny place, rain is a rare occurrence that brings a touch of freshness to the air. Even so, the water in Yeme Deciduous Forest is abundant thanks to the groundwater beneath the soil spewing into the surface. The thin waterways making their path through the forest from Yeme Lake give the much-needed water to the smaller plants that couldn’t get it from the trees. This pressurized underground water source is a deposit discovered during the late Early Modern Ages, and its size was discovered in the middle of the Machine Age which could hold thrice the amount of water the lake currently had. The trees themselves work as a way to bring the water from the soil to the higher parts and most of the plants in this forest have evolved to be parasitic or symbiotic.

The water beneath the hills is being pressurized by the tectonic movement which is making it surface. This phenomenon has been closely documented by scientists for a thousand years before the fall of the zu’aan civilization. Being the only source of water in Yeme, it was a pleasant surprise when the scientists found out the water was safe to drink when the scientists found out the water was safe to drink. With an incredibly large range of flora, and fauna consisting of 95% insects, the Yeme Deciduous Forest Hills is a paradise for all plants, insects, and the two types of animals living here. The plants have semi-unlimited sources of food, the two types of animals that live here feed on insects, and the kin’toni are the perfect snack for the insects.

== Plants ==

With most of the plants in Yeme Deciduous Forest being parasitic or symbiotic, we will start the description of the flora with the few not parasitic or symbiotic. The giant trees of Yeme Deciduous Forest are the very backbone of the entire ecosystem. From being able to pump water from the depths of the soil to being food for many types of insects and plants, this type of tree has been growing in Yeme before the first zu’aan ever stepped on this land. It is one of the biggest trees kind in the entire planet with a few of them being spread around the world and worshipped as magical trees giving life to the land with the common nickname “World Tree”.

Other less interesting plants growing on the giant trees such as random vines, random flowers, and other types of parasitic plants get 100% of their nutrients from the tree itself without giving anything in return nor do they have anything noteworthy to be talked about. Now that we have talked about the boring part of the forest, there are special plants that consist of engineered plants from the zu’aan scientists and the natural types. One of these plants is the house that the zu’aani used as a home when the civilization was still active. Being a parasitic plant, not only does it grow into the tree, making a cave-like opening into it, but also it was made to be in a cube shape.

The plant is unironically named “green home”, and has become the most common place for ambushing insects to live in. Being the size of a small apartment, it was thought to be able to house multiple insects by today’s standards until the size of the insects grew alongside the amount of oxygen being produced in this place. The walls of this plant grow another parasitic plant which has been integrated into the DNA of the house plant, and all it does is it produces more oxygen than the common plant which resulted in the insects growing in size. With the uncountable dangers varying from poisonous insects to poisonous plants, there was a need to create a way to differentiate the venomous plants and keep the insects away.

This need pushed the biological engineers to create a plant with a scent that repelled insects. The name of the said plant was Az-231-B, nicknamed “puffer”, and it was spread widely around the houses as it was capable of not only repelling annoying and harmless insects but also the more dangerous ones. This was until a few hundred years ago when insects actively searched and ate the plant or built the nest to lay eggs directly under said plant. The number one carnivorous plant of this forest is the kaca. Kaca is a fruit-bearing plant that surrounds its fruit with vines. These vines are capable of secreting a very sticky liquid which is capable of capturing most of the insects in the forest.

Thanks to the sticky liquid, it can simply retract its vines into its pseudo-mouth and digest the unfortunate insect. Although the stick liquid is quite effective, the digestive system is not the best it can be. Most of the insects manage to eat through the biological adhesive and few manage to escape, while the other part just give up. The fruit itself is not a fruit but just a decoy with a strong aroma to attract the insects. If eaten it can kill even a giant from the northern regions of the planet in a matter of minutes.

== Animals ==

The animals in Yeme Deciduous Forest consist of mostly insects, roughly 95%, so we will talk about the 5% first. Bret is a large animal with a round body living near the top of the trees. Its claws and long limbs allow it to move the trees in many directions. Thanks to its outer layer of skin being covered with thick mucus, the smaller insects can be ignored as they are not able to reach and bite bret’s flesh. Its main hunting strategy is staying in the open and making noise. The noise doesn’t need to be specific, in this forest if you make noise you are going to be someone’s snack but in this case is different. This animal has managed to evolve its tongue to be launchable at high speed and when combined with the mucus, it can stick the insects to grab them.

Thanks to their claws they are capable of holding their position despite having to do a tug-of-war with the insect for who gets to eat. Evolution gave them the strongest stomach acid to digest the insects but evolution also thought it would have been funny if anything else except insects would be poisonous to them. The insect’s poison is harmless to them too. The second, and last, animal in Yeme Deciduous Forest is the kaf. Kaf is the old word referring to biting. While being a relative of the bret, it has no outer mucus to fend off the attack of insects but an outer shell in layers working like scales. Lacking claws, it holds itself thanks to the special scales underneath its paws which work to stop it from sliding when landing.

Being the toughest and heaviest in the forest, it can move around almost freely without sliding from its weight. Their main weapon for hunting is their bite. It is capable of killing most insects in one bite if it can get that near. Thanks to the heavy armor they grow, and their low ability to walk, they resort to jumping around for movement and the noise they make will warn all the insects. As the saying of the widely known scientist Dr. Agn goes, “Even a deaf knows one is coming, be it by sight or by the tree’s vibration”. The most common insect sighted is the kopt. The kopt is a thin and long, flying insect that has evolved to be able to have absolute control in the direction it can fly at any given time.

This ability is thanks to the six wings it has on the sides of its body. The fact that it has six wings isn’t what makes it able to fly in all directions whenever needed but the fact that it can move the wings independently of each other. Its main source of food is the plants growing on the trees but despite being an omnivore, it has a weak spot for kin’toni. Despite not talking much about the ocean of insects in this forest, there will be honorable mentions in terms of how scary they are, be it by looks or behavior.

Some of the honorary mentions, Shi’kues, Harvester, Hoarder, and the Loner. The most sadistic and repulsive way of killing has been voted to be in a tie between the shi’kues, which stares at you while killing you, the Hoarder, which stores you in its web for later feeding, and the loner who will tie you to its body, be it a living body or a corpse.
