==Geography==

The Taspol tidal marshes are a wetland area found along the coast, where it eventually feeds into the sea. Because of it’s location and connection to the sea, it is heavily affected by the tides. At high tide, the water level in the marshes grows till most of the land is covered, and there is only the barest amount of dry land available. At low tide, the water level decreases till it is possible to wade from island to island without being swept away. The Taspol marshes consist of many small islands of earth rising from the water across the area.

These islands vary in size, with some barely big enough for a zu’aan to stand on, and some large enough to hold an entire village of buildings. The earth itself is firm, anchored to the ground and unaffected by the movement of the water. The roots of the plants growing on the island hold the dirt together, keeping it firm and solid. At the centre of the marsh the largest island can be found. Easily large and sturdy enough to hold multiple buildings, it is firmly planted close to the centre of the marsh. Around it are much smaller islands.

Not the smallest in the marsh, but much smaller than the central island. These islands decrease in size as they approach the edges of the marsh, before the large islands are found once again. This strange formation is due to a particularly large section of earth planting itself at the centre of the river, whilst around it much smaller sections landed, or were broken apart to become smaller. The large islands around the border of the marsh are due to the river slowly spreading and carving new waterways, isolating new islands. These islands are much larger as they were already firmly rooted to the ground and did not easily become new islands.

The area surrounding the marshes is a dry, flat series of grasslands and plains. Before, the Taspol River had provided the area with water, making it lush and green, but since the formation of the tidal marshes, all the water has been gathered into the marsh and away from the surrounding area, causing it to lose some of it’s fertility and growth. The islands of the Taspol marsh are very fertile and lush. The soil is strong in nutrients, and the residual radiation of the explosion that displaced the soil has caused the plants to grow strong and unique.

Leading to each island being overgrown with plants and colour. Interestingly, the plans are not toxic or damaging when consumed, and are virtually all nutritious and beneficial to zu’aan and kin’toni, or any other creatures or animals living in the area. The water of the marshes varies in colour. In the areas closest to the ocean, it is blue, the same as the sea. Towards the centre, it is a dark, greenish black. Where it first enters the marsh, it is clear, or slightly green. The colour of the water relates to the amount of sediment present in the flow of that area, and is not indicative of safety or danger.

==Plants==

There is a wide range of plants in the marshes, consisting of varieties of known plants as well as totally unique ones found only in this region. Most of the islands have grass growing over them, a variety that is yellow or green in colour, and can grow to be quite long, though can also thrive when short. There are many trees in the marshes, though there is one species of tree which is both very common, and unique to the area. These trees are short and thick, with very few branches. They grow exceptionally fast, able to grow to full size within six months.

They grow straight upwards, and sprout a thin layer of long, flat, yellow leaves. These leaves are edible to kin’toni, though they have a very strongly bitter taste. These trees do not flower or grow fruit in any season, and grow from its bark. The outer layer of bark on the tree is light and gentle, and easily falls of the tree to be carried by wind or water to a new piece of land. After a time in contact with the soil, the bark sinks into the earth and begins to grow into a new tree. The wood of the tree is tough and strong, and resilient to water, making it very useful in this area.

They are also not affected by partial submersion during the high tides. There is also a unique fruit bearing plant in the region. These plants grow as bushes that reach around the waist height of a kin’toni. The bushes are thick and overgrown, bearing dark green leaves which interlock with one another to from a pseudo armor around the bush. The fruit of the bush grows at the centre of the bush, surrounded by the interlocking leaves. As a creature approaches, the leaves open, revealing the fruit inside. But as soon as the fruit is touched, the leaves snap back together with extreme force.

Either capturing the creature inside, or severing the limb that touched the fruit. The plant then breaks down and consumes the flesh, using it to fuel it’s growth and strengthen the leaves. If you manage to get past this defence and get the fruit, it is said to taste exquisite, sweet and juicy. Another fruit bearing plant is common to the area, but is completely different. This plant grows as a single stalk, bearing a large, orange fruit at it’s tip. This fruit does not consume nutrients from the soil to sustain itself. Instead, it secretes a chemical hormone into the area around it which attracts creatures nearby.

And stimulates their need to urinate. It then absorbs the nitrogen and other chemicals from the urine of the animal, using those to fuel it’s growth, and allowing the creature to take it’s fruit and drop the seed elsewhere to spread the population.

==Animals==

There is a wide variety of animals of all types in the Taspol tidal marshes. Some are very similar to the creatures of other areas, while others are completely unique and are only found in this region. Most of them are at least partially aquatic, and none of them are unfamiliar or unused to living in or near water. One of the most common species to be found in the marshes is a rodent-like creature with webbed feet and spines along it’s back. Very similar in size and appearance to a rat, these creatures are adept swimmers, using their webbed feet to pull them through the water.

And the spine along their back streamlining their movement. They tend to live in groups, but can also been living solitarily. They are omnivorous, eating both plants and berries, and fish. In the water, there are many different species of fish. They are mostly very similar to the ones living in the ocean, as they enter and exit the marshes, living partially in the ocean and partially in the marsh. There is one species of fish that lives only in the marshes. They are quite large, perhaps the length and thickness of an arm. They live in the centre waters of the marsh.

And have a dark brown or black colouration in order to blend into the dark waters of the marsh. They are carnivorous, hunting and feeding on smaller fish, and if they are in a group, they may even attempt to attack a zu’aan or kin’toni passing through the water. Their needle sharp teeth cause very painful bites, and draw a lot of blood. There are not many large creatures in the marshes, as they struggle to find enough food, but one of the only creatures of larger size is quite unique. Around the height of a horse, it has short, black fur, and paws with long claws.

The neck is short and thick, and the front legs are longer than the back. They are very territorial, and usually no more than two will live in the marshes at a time. They are a mating pair, and have unusually long lives. There are small populations of these creatures outside of the marshes, and any offspring that are old enough to live alone are sent to find their own home. They are omnivorous, eating fish, other animals, and certain fruits, though most of their diet is centred on meat. They are not afraid of kin’toni, and will attack without provocation.

They have immense strength, and are easily capable of killing a lone kin’toni, or even a group if they are not adequately prepared. They are the apex predators of this environment, fearsome predators that should be avoided at all costs, though if you do somehow manage to kill one, their meat is supposedly extremely tasty when cooked.
