==Geography==

The Tair Hilly Plains is a region located in the northern half of Taerel. It is midway between the eastern and western coasts, east of the Rynper Jade Valley and north east of the Paahak Mangrove Marshes. The region in the past was used as a kind of shortcut by merchants while traveling south of the snowy regions. The Tair, like in the name is a combination of hills and plains. The hills making up the region are vast, but are not particularly large in terms of height or densely clustered. This gives those entering the region the impression that the majority of the region is at a higher altitude than it actually is, as the plains sit lower in the region than the surrounding territories.

The ‘shortcut’ roads that travelers made in the region would follow the flatlands between the hills as while not large, the hills could be extremely slick when attempting to travel after rain. Rain is common in the region, creating a very lush and beautiful region. The hills have small streams that formed over the years, though they are only active when there has been a moderately strong shower. They quickly dry out and remain so for most of the year as there is no significant constant source of water in the region. The previous razed town was built in one of the largest plains in the region and is coincidentally where the Llien decided to build their homes.

By the time the Llien made their way to the region there was no remaining sign of the town. They inadvertently built their homes in a similar fashion to the zu’aan who lived there previous, with their homes on the outer edge of the plain and their government ‘town hall’ like building nestled against the larger hill surrounding the flatland. A mix of rock based structures and branch enforced mud coatings make up the majority of the region’s building. The base of the hills have the largest concentration of exposed rocky land, though some of the hilltops have boulder sized rock formations.

While most were brick like buildings, for the sake of protecting, the Llien built in ground and in hill storage rooms for their resources. The largest supply warehouse was dug out just behind the government building and hollowed out a majority of the hill behind the building. There they kept any captured creatures that they would use as food if the various hunting parties were unsuccessful, or there was a scarcity in meals in the region. Also, located in the warehouse was where the majority of the Llien military kept their supplies and uniforms.

A portion of those on active duty stayed in the warehouse incase there was an attack or attempted invasion so that their resources would be protected. Those not assigned to the warehouse were placed in a separate barracks like building at the center of town allowing for quick movement to whichever side of the town was being threatened. Those who were military but not active duty had their homes on the outer edges of the town to act as the warning system as well as first line of defense should there be an attack.

==Plants==

The Tair region is made up mostly of grasses and small bushes. The region’s moderately rocky soil allows for the deeper rooting plants of the region to cling to and acts as a stabilizer for the weaker grasses especially. The most widely available of the bush type plant in the region is the Filrian. The Filrian is a juniper like shrub that grows throughout the region. The shrub is an evergreen like plant, keeping its needle like leaves throughout the entire year. Due to the lack of a constant source of water, the needles developed to catch and transport water into their respective branch for later use.

The needles are ridged with layers opening skyward to catch the most water possible. The plant while keeping its leaves throughout the coldest part of the season does go into a hibernation like state after the first drop in temperature which presents itself in the branches- they turn from a red-violet purple shade to a near burned black charcoal color. This led the zu’aan that lived in the region previously to think the plant died during that time, to which they started harvesting branches for their fires and other various uses.

This often inadvertently sent the plant harvested from further into their ‘winter hibernation shock’ and pushed them into a lower activity state even when it started warming up due to attempts repairing the damage they sustained. The Llien initially acted in a similar way, though after a few years they realized that the Filrian simply went into a hibernation and reduced their harvesting to the very beginning of the warm through to just before the first ‘freeze’. They also learned that when dead the branch of a filrian will turn to an ashy white grey color and become extremely easy to remove without the need of tools, no matter the size of the branch.

The shrub is known to be out of hibernation after they produce their first set of hazel like nuts for the season. The quickest growing grass in the region is the narkakra. The narkakra often grows densest long the various streams after a shower or beneath the filrian throughout the year. Similar to prairie grasses, the Narkakra is a long grass, often reaching 3 feet in length, though it looks shorter than it is due to being structurally lax and easily manipulated. The grass does not hold much water, often none, so it must rely on others in the region to gain moisture.

Because of how the filrian harvests water, and the minute amounts that are leaked from its roots, the Narkakra grass naturally flocks to the shrub as its main source of water. The relationship between the two is almost symbiotic, in that many creatures in the Tair would dig up the filrian roots, so the Narkakra acts as a first layer (albeit ineffective) of defense, as well as keeping the soil cool and damp longer after showers. The Narkakra does not last the cold season, so the Llien will often start collecting the grass after the first temperature drop to act as their kindling for the season before the winds blow away the dead strands.

==Animals==

The Tair Hilly Plains has a variety of creatures living in the region. While most stay and live in the region permanently, there are a handful that migrate out of the region as the various plants of the region die off or go into hibernation. The Chiddel is a prairie dog like creature that live in the Tair region. They are significantly rounder though, with pangolin like scales lining all but the underside of their body. Their ‘armor’ scales are not particularly strong when compared to constructed weapons or tools, but for the other creatures in the region it is more than strong enough to prevent any slashing or biting attack attempts.

Chiddels have multistory homes; the first level being on the surface made from dug out soil to make domed or igloo like structures. This is the main home for their ‘scout’ members, which are the older ‘grandparents’ of their communities, but not so old that they are slow or incapable of effective reaction to any possible enemy. The ‘youth’ and their parents often stay in the central level just below the surface. Any of the community’s babies are kept in the 3rd and lowest level of the group’s home. From the second layer to the third, there is often only one entrance, which is inside the den, as to offer the most protection to the group’s babies as possible.

The third layer is a large labyrinth like maze that connects to separate ‘safehouse’ like branches, should any predator manage to dig out the top two layers of their main den. They stay in the region year round, though in the colder season they do not leave their den as they stock up on food before the first freeze hits the region. The Ksayict is a large bison like creature that lives and travels the Tair region. Despite its large size, the Ksayict often are unaware of their size and can be extremely clumsy. This clumsiness often leads to them accidentally destroying Chiddel dens, among other creatures’ homes in the region.

Ksayict travel in small groups while moving through the region, often a handful of parents and their young. When they travel out of the region during the colder season, the various groups will start to combine with one another to create a larger herd like system. Ksayict are known particularly for their menacing appearance and stature, though they have a- usually- demure personality. They rarely ever cause problems for those making their way through the region, or for the Llien, unless they perceive that person as a threat to their or their group’s young.

The Llien will rarely use the ksayict as a meal source, as they have a thick layer of wool like hair which makes getting proper access to any veins extremely difficult. When one is hunted, it will often feed multiple of the clan members to their fill, or nearly half the clan enough to stave off their hunger. They are extremely smart creatures with long memories though, so once one is hunted from one group the Llien will avoid that group until the (then) young are of old age- especially as they found out in the early days that ksayict are capable of recognizing faces.

In the early days, the groups that had one hunted recognized the Llien and were uncharacteristically aggressive at the mere sight of the kin’toni, which led to many injuries attempting to escape that group’s wrath.
