==Geography==

The Sam’ome Frozen Land is one large land mass west of the Rak’ust Middle Tundra. The Northern sections of the region used to be part of the Rak’ust territory, but early in the Sam’ome history, before Morozov, a portion of the area was absorbed in to the Sam’ome region. In the center of the region is the main city and palace. To the North, there’s a large mountain range that runs through Sam’ome, partly though Rak’ust, and stops at the Tanhglor border, where the noble family there made their castle. The Northern mountains were used for mining precious metals.

Going from the palace to the mountains, there a forest that sits directly between them. It spans half of what would later be split into the Northern and Western region. Along the Western border all the way down into the south there’s a large ice shelf, with a glacier sitting against the Southern territory. The eastern region is made up of flat plains. When the Sokolov family took over, they split the region between the family. The father Slava and his wife took the central region which included the main city and central palace. This son, Maxim, was given the Northern Mountains which contained half the forest, his other son Afon got the West region with the other half of the forest.

Alisa, his daughter received the South land, as well as the glaciers and iceshelf that lined the West’s costal border. Ruslan, his other son received the Eastern plains, which sat closest to the Rak’ust region. Due to its tundra climate location, thick layers of snow were nearly constant year-round. In the warmest months, the snow would melt down to about half its usual amount, resulting in icy layers coating the region. The loose snow being a constant led to near monthly (weekly in the winter season) white-out storms.

While in power, Morozov banned shrines and temples. Instead he only allowed statues and celebrations of him and his power. The people of course did not like this, so it was often on these days that the statues of him got defaced in rage and protest. After his defeat, nearly all his statues were destroyed beyond recognition, and those that weren’t were still left in pieces to be forgotten and buried in the frozen wilderness. The Sokolov family reinstated free religion and worship. Because of this, and their many other deeds, some people worshiped them as savior of the land, creating idols out of gold and silver, or hanging painting in their homes of the royal family.

The shrines and temples not dedicated to the royal family were made for various Frost spirits deities. They believed that those who died were reborn as these frost spirits. They made metal bodied statues that had silk fabric or other luxurious clothing draped over the statue. Some statues were even made of ice and kept in the coldest climates of the region so that they would not melt. The largest grand temple in the region was created in central region near the palace.

==Plants==

The majority of the plants in the Sam’ome region are located in the territories of the North Mountains and the West, controlled by Slava’s sons Maxim and Afon, respectively. The winds on the Eastern plains are extremely harsh and usually destroy any plants that might have attempted to live there, and the South was a rocky snow-covered area that was also unideal for plant growth. Split between the North and West territories is the Sam’ome forest; while in the North territory, the trees only grow a fraction of the way up the mountain due to the rocky nature of the soil.

The forest is made up of trees that are extremely large both in height and trunk thickness. The trees are an oddity due to the high wind levels in the rest of the region making any large plant growth near impossible. They evolved to purposely grow at an opposing angle to the winds, so by the time they are fully matured they would be standing vertical and could hold up against the winds. Due to the strong winds, many of the smaller branches are destroyed before they can mature, leaving the entire bottom half of the tree bare tree trunk. The trunks large sizes manage to cut down on the winds in the two regions, allowing for some slightly larger plants to grow within the forest’s borders.

Outside the forest’s borders, the only kind of plants that grow in Sam’ome naturally are ground cover types and small shrubs with short roots, like most other frozen regions in Taerel. The ice and snow in the region causes it to majorly be a frozen soil type area, with only a thin layer of topsoil soft enough for even the strongest of the small plants to grow. Unlike in other regions, the roots grow in a way that allows the plants to stay where they are instead of being ripped out due to the high winds. The ground cover plants only last a short time- less than a season- before they die off.

The small shrubs though go into hibernation after the warmest season, after the first drastic drop in temperature. Often when it starts snowing, the plants that went into hibernation will be completely covered in the layers of snow; because of this when some of the Claskel would clear out some snow to create paths, they would accidentally rip out some of the hidden shrubs. One of the most common shrubs was the ‘snow berry’. The shrub creates small bunches of 5 petal flowers, that form into small white berries. Despite the low-level nutrients in the soil in the region, the berries carry high levels of the nutrients the animals in the region need.

It grows across all the territories, but is majorly concentrated in the Sam’ome forest due to the marginally higher nutrients available from the decaying pieces that came from the trees. For the zu’aan, the berries are extremely sour, so when they are harvested by them it is almost always for making their own personal alcohol. Once fermented, the berries loose nearly all their healthy properties, but gain a sweeter flavor.

==Animals==

Meats are a major part of the Claskel’s diet, meaning that many of the animals in the region are hunted for meat. Not being wasteful with their kills those that have acceptable quality hides are used to make fur coats the Claskel use as well as sometimes leather shoes, though some decide there’s better maneuverability to use cloth wrapping their feet. One of the animals in the region is the grey wolf; its appearance typical for a wolf only larger in scale. It is considered sacred by the Claskel as they believe the moon to be a giant grey wolf that protects them at night from the kin’toni.

Their hunting is strictly outlawed and carries heavy punishment for doing so, but when one is found dead, the pelt is saved and given to either the wealthiest members or the highest religious members in the Sam’ome region. The Grey wolf is a giant creature, as while standing on all fours their shoulders reach to zu’aan’s hips. The myth about them started centuries before the Shattering age when a giant version of the creature (due to a rare mutation) had been spotted. The zu’aan of the time had attempted to hunt the creature, but lost it when it disappeared over the edge of a rock as the moon was starting to rise.

Over time the tale morphed and changed to the point that only the details of the wolf and moon remained. One of the animals that is hunted majorly its meat is the Sam’ome ice hare. It makes its home in the across the region, though it is most densely located in the Sam’ome forest as there’s more available food. Its ears are equal length to its face, with a long fluffy body making the face look extremely small when stretched. The Ice hare has 3 sets of limbs- though the majority of the time only 2 sets are consistently used. The front paws have strong claws perfect for digging through snow and ice to make their dens.

The back legs are flatter made more for jumping, and the middle is a combination of the two. When a pair is not in use, the hare tucks the legs into an extra skin pocket that lines its sides as to not waste energy on keeping muscles contracted. The Ice hares developed this over the years in the region because despite having strong nails, many hares would injure their front legs after digging their dens and be unable to gather food without exponentially larger risks due to only having their back legs working. Most commonly.

Despite not being the best, the Ice hares will use their middle legs to dig their den so that they can continue moving as they usually do with their front and back legs; its possible to move around with the middle legs replacing one of the other sets, but requires more effort and energy due to the central placement, so the hares will only do so when one is injured. If needing to move even faster in a desperate situation, the hare will use all 3 sets at one time, extending their body as long as possible to cover as much ground as they can.
