==History==

The Quilyeath kin'toni clan formed after a rough forest fire in the [[Jetai Rainforest]], sparked by warring zu'aan clans. During the fire, the Telboth kin'toni clan - the original inhabitants of the rainforest, had fled from the forest. Having fled, the Telboth kin'toni clan sat down and discussed their plans for the future. Heated arguments ensued, and then one man, Ougholdtas Thruich, decided to start a splinter clan from the Telboth kin'toni clan, and travel away from the burnt rainforest. A considerable amount of kin'toni followed him. Months of travelled them to the mangrove forests where they spent their days hunting and gathering.

In the thousands of years after their initial relocation to the mangrove forest they have seen and played witness to many different and various things throughout their tenure as a clan; however, several other clans, including the Galroda and Aw'drai clans, have tried to take over this land. In a similar way that their original home was taken over in the days leading to their splitting from the Telboth clan thousands of years ago. They consider themselves to be recluses, antisocial inhabitants of an already leafy and forested land.

When given the opportunity they have been to other regions in Terael in the past to reconcile and make amends for the trouble that they caused, if any at all, which may explain why in the year 4E 15, one of Thruich's successors decided to travel to a peace conference to make amends. The Quilyeath clan, although still holding a grudge against the Aw'drai clan, forgave them, but since the peace offering was made the leaders of those two clans have not seen each other since, with each side claiming that the other side still had hard feelings.

This is for the invasion that transpired decades ago. Although this was the only time that the leaders of both parties met, the leaders of the Quilyeath clan have since built a wall between their region and that of the Aw'drai and Galroda clans and even though there are no real reasons or indicators of reasons behind this move, the Quilyeath clan managed to complete the wall in the year 4E 23. The wall, which took approximately ten years to build, required the efforts of many thousands of Quilyeath kin'toni in a time where the population was scarce and recruitment was necessary.

They eventually completed the wall just recently, and the wall now stands at roughly one thousand kilometres long and approximately twenty feet in height. In addition to this being the Quilyeath clan's highest achievement, they have also built and rediscovered several underground bunkers that can house five hundred kin'toni each at a time and can be seen throughout the underground of the region; however, several different places within this region have yet to be discovered, and within the next few years, and the Ice age is set to begin. In the meantime, though, most of the kin'toni in this clan, including the leaders of this clan will do everything in their power to scavenge whatever they need and stock up.

==Psychology==

Many of the Quilyeath kin'toni are, from a kin'toni'ati standpoint, supposedly suffer from mild cases of mental retardation, perhaps because they don't necessarily find themselves able to take care of themselves some of the time; however, they can hunt and cook and build things like most any other kind of kin'toni, especially despite their handicaps and that in itself is considered by many other kin'toni'ati clans as interesting. Because of their slightly off-kilter personality, some have been known to horseplay with others in times of seriousness and importance.

But as soon as they are told or remind themselves to work, hunt, or scavenge things, they generally put that over as a second priority. Their first and most important priority is their religion, which inspires them to unleash their inner animal from time to time. For example, the kin'toni in this clan generally look for something to do when they are together, so, from time to time, they will venture into other territories to interact with kin'toni belonging to their allied clans, and even though their allies tend to get a bad impression at first.

They eventually understand their motives and decide to engage in conversation. well despite learning of several things that they disagree about or are disagreed upon by their allies, and when they compromise they aren't too reluctant to do so. With some of their allies agreeing to visit the Quilyeath clan's region now and then for campfires. It isn't often that they visit their rivals, however, especially considering that the last time the leaders of the Quilyeath clan visited the Aw'drai clan. The only kin'toni that a typical Quilyeath kin'toni interacts with are either one of their own.

Or a kin'toni from an allied clan, but in times of adventure and excitement, a Quilyeath kin'toni always looks to race against one of their own, particularly in races that involve climbing up and down a tree. They are not as bright as other clans, though, for sometimes they laugh at the pain of their own because they think it's funny. Quilyeath kin'toni has a strange sense of humour because they typically enjoy watching some of their own engage in dangerous activities, particularly jumping from one tree to another (which doesn't always end as well as one would expect).

Given that, a Quilyeath kin'toni has a hard time trying to figure out right from wrong, which may also explain why they don't visit the regions of their rival clans anymore or in general. Generally speaking, most kin'toni in this clan and region don't necessarily make the best decisions, but when they know that they're at a loss they know not to push their luck any further and know better enough to just leave some things be.

==Biology==
The Quilyeath are adapted to the hot, humid, coastal Olasia Mangrove. They are relatively thin and sinuous of build. The spine is unusually flexible, the underside is flat, and they have powerful, long digits with multiple joints. This allows them to slither and contort though thick, tangled root networks with a build that is adapted for slithering. This also means they are slow and unstable on open ground. Their skin is reddish-brown in color in order to camouflage on tannin-filled mud and water.

This color sticks out badly in non mangrove landscapes. It is slick with a layer of mucus, that alongside highly flexible joints allows them silent movement in the mud and roots. The skin is adapted to be resilient against the physical damage caused by drying salt crystals. This allows them to suffer no damage from the salt of tides and salt spray. This skin also means that they dry out quickly in dryer environments. The thin body profile and surface skin moisture allow for highly efficient evaporative cooling.

This allows them to stay cool, active and working in extreme humidity and heat, but also means they are unable to withstand cold environments due to quickly loosing body heat. They have no hair, besides some very fine, chemically sensitive sensory filaments on their brows and wrists. These allow them to detect changes in chemical composition and salinity. They lack outer ears. The eyes are small, bulbous and with an thick, transparent nictitating membranes. This allows them functional vision both in air and in murky, tannic water.

The nostrils are located near the tip of their long, pointed snout. These filter an internal filtration mechanism that traps fine aerosols. This allows them to isolate prey scents from the overwhelming odor of decaying organic matter. On the snout, there are specialized pits that contain low-level electroreceptors, allowing them to detect the weak bio-electric fields generated by submerged fish.

The fangs are thin, slightly hooked and highly pressurized. These fangs are adapted to slip between gaps in scales and shells, but are prone to breaking on thick bones. Their claws are small, razor like blades that are used for cutting and stripping flesh. These claws are useless for climbing. They also have specialized dermal sensors on their inner forearms for detecting slight differences in wood density and vibration. Using these, they can mentally map the entire interlocking mangrove root system. They also also are to detect subtle directional movement of tidal currents.

These allow them to anticipate the direction and speed of aquatic prey without visual input. Using their multiple-jointed digits, they can grasp the complex, irregular shapes of mangrove roots. This allows them superior agility for climbing and maneuvering above the water. These also have blood and lymphatic systems that contain specialized enzymes that constantly deal with the high levels of tannins, iron, and heavy metals common in mangrove sludge.

==Culture==

Due to the carefree nature of life in the mangroves; the Quilyeath kin'toni clan has not advanced technologically. They have all the tools they need for killing and cleaning fish, and they do not feel that they need more advanced tools. In a Quilyeath kin'toni's spare time, even if it is during daytime hours, he or she generally enjoys drawing in their cave with others and encourages collaboration and a joint effort on others' parts. When working together as a cohesive unit, Quilyeath kin'toni have been known to create unusually abstract masterpieces on their cavern walls inside their caves.

A typical Quilyeath kin'toni likes to go out for walks during the nighttime hours to keep oneself from suffering the side effects of boredom, which includes lethargy and excessive sleep. It is a crime in some local sectors of the region to be excessively bored as some have actually gone to sleep and slept long enough to be burned by the sunlight the following dawn. A typical Quilyeath kin'toni also likes to experiment with stone and has been known to carry stone to one's cave; however, because of the Quilyeath kin'toni's unusual body structure and unusual strengths.

Carrying certain weights of stone is not a problem for such a kin'toni, especially when one lifts with one's legs instead of one's back. Some of the caves have been known to contain quite a few tons of stone. In the not-so-distant past, some of the Quilyeaths would horseplay with one another and play pranks on each other; in fact, there was a bi-annual competition to see who could pull off the best prank at one point in the Quilyeath clan's history, according to their archives. However, a successor to the Quilyeath clan's founder ruled it illegal at one point to pull pranks on one another.

This legislative order, though, would be repealed years later. During the ten thousand years of construction on the Galroda and Aw'drai borders on the outskirts of the Quilyeath clan's region, most of the kin'toni that worked on such a wall were also active in the Quilyeath Empire. This was simultaneously, and with the help of over 90 per cent of the Quilyeath clan's population, it was eventually completed. Because of a variety of different things, recent studies by kin'toni of other clans have all but proven a seemingly inevitable fact: Quilyeath kin'toni are more active in the present day.

Then their ancestors were thousands of years ago. The reason why this has proven to be the case is that there are more ways than ever in the Quilyeath clan's region to stay active, whether it be carrying stone to the cave, drawing on cave walks. Given that, it is generally and widely considered amongst many of the kin'toni in the Quilyeath clan that modernity has given them a new lease on life and a Renaissance in creativity and art. For this very reason, some of the kin'toni in this clan have even taken up the music and built and played musical instruments for a living.

==Government==

The Quilyeath clan's government, referred to as the Oaerqui (loose translation: The Quilyeath Order), is comprised of a group of leaders who operate only as individuals to local sectors, with one of them having the most responsibility and power of them all. This one most responsible person, referred to as the Aw'i, oversees all political activities going on in the Leriess region and gives each of his less powerful counterparts. Because this clan's government structure is somewhat complex, they operate through various local areas within the region and divide their power up equally between the local areas.

In the end, there are five different local areas within the Leriess region, with a group of either two or three people controlling each section and the Aw'i controlling all five areas, thereby having the most responsibility and power. In determining who will claim a spot in the Oaerqui, a tree-climbing tournament is held in each of the five local areas of the region, with many of the clan's strongest and brightest rising to the challenge; however, the tournament is presided by the retiring council who will seek a replacement for themselves, and all of the rounds of the tournament are timed by the Aw'i.

Who is also the enforcer and official of the tournament? The five fastest times are determined by who can climb up and down the tree the fastest, and the times are recorded by a timekeeper, namely one of the retiring local leaders. When the five fastest times are recorded the five fastest climbers will participate in a final race to determine which three will get a spot in their local council (in some cases, depending on the region, it's sometimes two instead of the former). Every council, which generally meets on the first day of their first term, agrees to serve three 70-year terms in the power of their region.

With two reelection bids being optional for all of them; however, if a local or regional leader chooses to wait until the end of the next administration's term to run again, then he or she must do so as soon as the tournaments start back up again, at which point they would spend their time training for it. Seeking reelection is generally not an easy thing for a councillor to do, especially one that is currently in power. Even if one chooses to take 70 years off from leading the clan, they must continue to work hard and train efficiently to make their reelection bid a success.

And even so, that requires a great deal of practice and stamina. In general, each council can have power and rule this region and clan for up to three 70-year terms, and although they don't have to fulfil these terms concurrently they will have to have a lot of wisdom and understanding as they try to come up with new pieces of legislation that would otherwise benefit everyone in the clan, particularly those in the military.

==Military==

The Quilyeath clan has a unique way of distinguishing themselves from most other clans; this unique method is through the nightly activities of the clan's military, which they generally refer to as the Quilyeath Corps. For one to be a member of this particular clan's militia one would have to have a lot of quick thinking and a lot of experience in basic instincts and fast reactions. By learning how to hunt and raise large animals in the forest a kin'toni in this clan's military can make a small difference in their region and from there one can learn how to protect their region's borders.

And its local underlying areas. Needless to say, a Quilyeath kin'toni needs to learn how to take care of stray animals. There are two different branches in the clan's militia, the first of which protects the wall and another in which protects the region and these two branches will often work together as one to serve a common and reliable purpose as a cohesive unit. That being said, one can always expect the unexpected when being a part of the Quilyeath Corps, and that can almost always prove to be something to prepare oneself for.

If that weren't enough, general activities and exercises that are common in the Quilyeath Corps often prove to be real builders of stamina, willpower, encouragement and determination, and those activities include hour-long run cycles, jumping jacks, crunches and shadow boxing, all of which are also indicators of true endurance and strength. Some of the kin'toni of this clan that have served in the Quilyeath Corps have gone on to become one of their local area's local leaders; however, only so many of the clan's militants have been able to lead productive and fruitful lives.

Ad nowadays the food supply isn't as plentiful as it once was. It requires a lot to become successful during one's tenure in the Quilyeath Corps. Given that most of the kin'toni in this clan's military stay busy during a good deal of a typical night in the forest they always remember to follow a very simple honour code, which reads as follows: never underestimate your power, for you are useful in the eyes of the leader (Loose translation). Xaronadin, who is also featured in the Quilyeath Corps coat of arms as an eagle deity, is also praised and lauded by the Quilyeaths.

A typical set of weapons used in the Quilyeath Corp include stone maces, as well as leather shields. They were armour of leather with bone plates over the top. Most of the kin'toni in this clan that are part of the Quilyeath Corps are also very gifted in martial arts, especially mixed martial arts—and that may probably describe why they shadowbox during their nightly activities. Given that, it is not uncommon for a Quilyeath kin'toni to stay active in a variety of different things, especially martial arts and the protection of their wall.

==Religion==

Thousands of years ago, after the events of the Shattering and during the building of the Wall of Borders, the Quilyeath clan decided to come up with a new religion called Zexendo; this religion was the belief in the worship of the moon, the stars and the night. As a result of this new religion, the leader of the Quilyeath clan ordered a group of scribes known as the Poets of Leriess to compose a book or their new religion, and this new book, which would take several hundred years to complete, would have thirteen different volumes of stories collectively known as the Chronicles of the Forest at Night.

Each of which was roughly 300 contributions each. The Chronicles of the Forest at Night, which was completed in the year 4E 18211, was publicly displayed for all of the Quilyeath population to see for several hundred days; after the initial display period passed, all of the contributions of the Chronicles of the Forest at Night were then stored in the deepest depths of the deepest and darkest cave in the Leriess region, which was eventually named the Cavern of Ancient Scriptures. And once every several months, the vast majority of the Quilyeath population venture into the Cavern of Ancient Scriptures.

Where the writings of their ancestors could be seen inside many parts of the cave; after reaching the deepest and darkest part of the cave, however, a series of candles are lit, one by one. Until hundreds of perfectly-placed candles light up the room with excitement and jubilation. After the perfectly-placed candles are lit, the Quilyeath population converges together to engage in chants to worship the night with intensive praise; given that, most kin'toni would consider this particular kind of worship as a kind of worship that is neither normal nor abnormal, but, rather, somewhere in between.

Because of this generalized reaction from kin'toni of other clans, most of the Quilyeath population prefer to keep the worship masses of their sacred Zexendo religion under wraps in a private and not-so-public manner, and as a result, most of the Quilyeath kin'toni choose not to discuss religion with their allies for fear of their allies. Will be getting a bad impression from the private religion that their ancestors created. In other words, most of the kin'toni in the Quilyeath clan choose not to share the thought process behind their religion with other clans.

And as a result, one might also suggest that Zexendo is a private religion that can only be worshipped in the deepest and darkest parts of their caves. And although few Quilyeath kin'toni has ever talked to their allies about their religion personally. With that said, Zexendo is considered the Quilyeath clan's private property, and although not many clans consider religion to be private property this clan takes their spirituality very seriously. They will do just about anything to continue praising the night sky and their prized possession, the Chronicles of the Forest at Night.
