==Geography==

The Polgaru Desert Plateau is true to its name in that the grand majority of the region is made up of large flat empty land that is desert. There are a few rocks in the region that break up the horizon, but the majority of the soil is flat desert sand. The Plateau is an extremely large region, with most of its expanse being East to West, giving it a rounded rectangle look when mapped out. It sits close to the Lyerod Red Desert Plateau, though there has been little to no interaction between the two regions despite their close proximity. The region is in an extremely optimal location, being close to many places of interest for both zu’aan and kin’toni, which caused minor conflict with another kin’toni clan and destroyed a few structures but was ultimately quickly dispelled.

While they were zu’aan, the Polgaru created a large market just about centered in the region that acted as a main hub for most all travel through the region. There were also houses for them built out of various materials procured during various trade deal; they were scattered throughout the region, making a handful of small villages and towns, but all surrounded the large market. The market after their change is one of the last and largest remaining structure of the zu’aan Polgaru. After they were changed, the kin’toni Polgaru made their homes underground, with tunnel systems connecting their homes and various ‘buildings’ to the ones above ground.

If not for the need to keep the farce that zu’aan lived there, the Polgaru would have moved to living completely underground full time. But to keep the illusion, the Polgaru also kept inns and pubs for traveling merchants and zu’aan to stay, as any trading town would be sure to have. By the time of the Shattering age, Ga’eal recognized that their underground living might become the only option with the path the surface was taking. He put plans into place to make their tunnel homes into a wonderous underground city, like that they had on the surface above while zu’aan, but on an even grander scale.

He had plans drawn up, using a large underground cave system near the North East corner of the region as a starting point for his new city. Buildings would be downward carved into the stone with the main market being centered in the area. The smaller stores and homes would flow to the South West, so that not all the homes would have to be abandoned and remade. The old tunnel system was to be expanded to the edges of the territory, so that those that did not have an underground connection could enter from above ground. Ga’eal also had plans to have water transported into the underground city, along with various aquatic plant and animal species to fill in the space beneath the various walkways.

For lighting, Ga’eal was considering a combination of exotic bioluminescent plants and oil lamps should one or the other fail. He made sure to consult various specialists in the best way to make the city its own self-sustaining flourishing full of plants environment, unlike that of the desert above. The Polgaru clan members believed this was the greatness that Ga’eal had promised to lead them to, so by midway into the Shattering age, the necessary resources had been gathered and the project city was underway.

==Plants==

Like other desert regions in Taerel, there was a limited variety of plant life due to limitations of water. This wasn’t completely true as there was trade for fresh water with the Ninal clan of the Tayk Springs, though the water was rarely if ever used for the plants in the region. The Polgaru also had trade set up with the Ropol kin'toni of the Wayra Boreal Strublands for fresh crops and food. The crops brought into the region were viable for both zu’aan and kin’toni consumption so they allowed the illusion of the Polgaru being zu’aan to persist as they could have communal meals at night to place the traveling zu’aan at ease until they could get them alone.

One of the plants brought was the ashral. The ashral is a rooting type plant that also produces a vining plant. The vining plant gives small nuts that are often ground down and powderized for a flour like baking substitute. The root part of the plant is similar to cabbage, in that it’s a leafing root that can be used on its own or in larger meals. It also had dyeing properties which are used if the specific item in the harvest is deemed to wilted for consumption. The Polgaru grow the plants in small quantities purely for appearance sake, so they rely on the Ropol’s imports to sustain the illusion.

Due to its close proximity to the Lyerod region, the Mayc plants (both Ilophos and Ilolis) found their way into the region. With the difference in soil type and slight difference in water availability, the two Mayc plants merged and evolved into what is now called the chithichi. The chithichi has the ilophos like flat grassy blades that grows from an extremely tiny root that is visually similar to a shrunk down ilolis. The root though is not edible anymore- at least not in terms of nutrient payoff for production effort. The chithichi is most often used in the creation of various woven goods that some of the Polgaru clan members will continue to make for the market.

Unlike in the Lyerod region, the blades of the chithichi last far longer than the Ilophos leaves and make for more sustainable vessels or dishes. One common craft that is sold are small woven dolls in the shapes of various animals or zu’aan, specifically for children. Inside the woven toy is a jh'terin flower that releases a very strong for kin’toni sent and essentially acts as a tracking device for the children passing through the region. The market members will often give them away as a way to ‘promote’ sales when in reality the jh'terin gives them a warning on the off case a child gets past their defenses and wonders into their underground tunnel system.

The jh'terin is a cactus like plant in the region that gives an extremely strong scented flower about 1 time per week. They grow in bunches near the city and traveling zu’aan will often take a piece from one of the plants as a hydrating ‘snack’ before they reach the large city.

==Animals==

The Polgaru region has a variety of creatures living in it, all adapted to go long periods without direct liquid water sources and often relying on any cactus like plant they come across to sustain them. One of the creatures is the vyil euda- an adapted version of the vyil from the Rynper Jade Valley. It originally found itself in the Polgaru region after one was taken by a sport hunter that was going to attempt to make it their pet to help them on their hunting trips. It escaped it’s cage though and was lost in the region. The Vyil Euda like the Rynper vyil has extremely long legs to cover large distances.

Unlike them though the euda make their homes underground to protect themselves from the excessive heat of the region during the day. Their coat is moderately short and used to vent heat from their body while also working to retain as much moisture as possible. They are mostly solo hunters, opting to live by themselves except for when raising their pups. An euda will often have their pups in sets of twins- one male and one female, and the twins will often stay together in close vicinity for most if not the entirety of their lives. They form close bonds while growing up and will tend to travel within 10 miles of the other every time they move locations or dens.

If one of the twins is injured, they will seek out the other for aid while healing, and in return will help them find a mate the season after they are fully healed. It’s seen as an equivalent exchange between the two as there are a low number of euda that survive past their first years, so their twin my be the only other euda within 100 miles. One of the vyil euda’s main source of food is the valeladur. Valeladur is a moderately large sized scavenger bird. The euda will purposefully kill smaller sized creatures that they are either unable to eat or are too small a meal to lure in the valeladur.

The Euda are exceptionally fast runners, so if the scavenger lands, there is a high likelihood that they would not have enough time to make it off the ground before they’re overtaken. Due to this, Valeladur will first attempt to scoop up the fallen prey to take it to a known safe location before attempting to eat; the wiser and older Euda purposely tear up the remains in ways that make it near impossible to grab on the first go allowing them more chances to catch the valeladur. Valeladur will often make their nests on any high placed ridge or structure they can find, so its extremely common to find them hanging around the Polgaru markets.

They usually do not bother any residents of the stalls or travelers, as they are more passive and do not wish to fight for meals unnecessarily. In extremely harsh seasons though - especially if its after their young have hatched- they will go after any market stalls that leave meat out in the open and have severely scratched up any zu’aan or Polgaru kin’toni that attempted to stop them.
