==Geography==

The Red Desert is majorly made up of various plains, that were largely barren sections of land. Because of this most of the time, days were spent working while night-time was for relaxing and play. Night markets were common and had food and drinks for sale. Breaking up the land were small farms that the Inekim kept in an attempt to farm, which majorly was unsuccessful or barely had any produce return. This was due to the low level of nutrients, and low level of water drainage in the dust like soil, often causing plant roots die and spread root rot to the plants.

The Lyerod region is covered in various small towns and small villages situated near the farms. During the war, many homes were destroyed in the fights before the Ghaz managed to take over. While under the Ghaz control, they were only able to partly rebuild, but there was constant unrest that would cause damage faster than the Inekim could keep up with. When things became a full blown rebellion, the resulting battles destroyed many of the few remaining infrastructures that had been untouched at the time, which the Inekim viewed as an acceptable loss.

The Inekim’s homes were made out of stone that was mined from a nearby mountain range. They remained simple in design, though over time with an increase in math skills and chisel work, the homes became increasingly more intricate. The region had a few schools made out of old abandoned houses that had been refurbished and renovated for student learning. When the initial war and later rebellion broke out, the schools were majorly abandoned save for those who showed great knowledge at young ages and were thought to be possibly useful to the government.

The Inekim people were not religious, but some were superstitious. They believed that there were spirits that roamed the land in the form of fires, and that the bad ones would cause havoc and chaos- that it was the bad being active that caused bad harvests and animal stock. They had charms and sigils for protection that were placed on the farmland and in the homes. The Ghaz used this as an avenue of control through religion, and connected their superstitions to a new religion. Not many accepted, but over time once a few did it spread like wildfire.

This led to religion becoming a foundation of their society. The Inekim would pray to war gods and goddesses to weaken the enemy. They would previously hold evening festivals before, believing it would help and honor the good spirits that gave protection from the evil ones; as nighttime was when the villainous spirit became more active and deadly for them. They built large magnific temples with the largest holding over 500 people at one time. After the rebellion, there was still conflict that ravaged the land.

As the Inekim were resentful of the Geyd, believing that they took the most useful section of region from them. The North had slightly more nutritious soil as it was closer in proximity to the Toras Terrace and the Old’kali Volcano Valley. This gave the Geyd slightly better farming results, among other various benefits like being closer to pre-established trade routes.

==Plants==

The Lyerod region rarely has any imported plants that live for an extended period of time. Any plant not native to the region needed extra care and extreme attention for the bare minimum level of growth- this limited those who could grow them successfully to only a small handful of skilled farmers and botanists at most, if any, per town throughout the region. The region was not at all suitable for crop growth, but that didn’t stop the Inekim from attempting. The crops were imported and universally struggled.

The fruit trees being the only plants that had any actual worthy payoff for the effort placed in them. The Inekim used some of them for beverages and refreshments. Others were mixed with imported sugar to make jams for bread. Because of the soil quality, it was not uncommon for the plants to develop root rot. The soil was low draining and dusty in a way that would cling on to water for long periods. This would drown the roots of nearly all exotic or imported plants, leaving only the desert type plants in the region.

The fruit trees were unique in that they took the extra moisture that should have drowned their roots and placed it into each branch until the flower blooms were pollenated and turned into fruit. Then the extra water would be placed into the fruit leading to a high level of water to nutrient content perfect for beverages in the hot climate. One of the common trees to do this was the hilo tree. The Hilo produces a fruit that looks like a cross between a coconut and a pear. The fruit has a hard shell with fibrous strands on the outside.

With the inside being filled with soft flesh- in the center is a handful of seeds. The shell while hard is rather easy to crack, as when it falls from the trees- about 6 to 10 feet tall- the impact with the ground will create cracks in the shell. In its natural region on the Eastern coast, the hilo’s fruit would then usually get covered by dirt and the seeds would use the nutrients from the flesh and shell to start their sprouts. In the Lyerod, any fruit that are determined to be used for tree growth have to be grown in a separate containment then replanted once established.

As other plants would take over the shell as a safe source of water without risk of rot. One of the other plants in the region is the mayc. There are two plants under the mayc name- the first being the mayc ilophos. The ilophos is a grassy type plant. It has long flat blades that are smooth on one side and slightly spikey on the other. The Inekim would often use the ilophos as a wrap while cooking, or for weaving projects like ‘disposable’ bowls for travel that were extremely light and did not need to last for long periods of time.

The other mayc plant is the mayc ilolis. They Ilolis looks exactly like the ilophos on the surface, is a rooting plant that looks similar to a beet. The Ilolis’ root grows in a bulb like shape and is usually a maroon color, though if the ilolis absorbed large amounts of water, it can lean closer to a pale crimson color due to the expanded internal layers. The ilolis is most often used to feed the Inekim’s livestock, but they will use it in soups if they are low on resources.

==Animals==

The Lyerod Red Desert Plateau has a decent variety of animals, considering the relative barren nature of the area. Due to the heat in the desert, its common for most of the animals to only be seen from dusk to dawn hours when it is the coolest. Each also has a capacity to hold large amounts of water due to the limited amount of rain in the region- some on equal storage throughout their bodies, others in pouches in various areas around their back or stomach regions. Many of the region’s natural inhabitants make dens or burrows underground to protect themselves from heat and any predators during the day.

One of the major animals of the region was the Lyerod valaith. While the climate was moderately in terms of deserts, it was still a hot region. The valaith is a fennec fox like creature who’s large ears dissipated the heat, and their double coat fur was designed to keep them from burning in the sun. Their fur was a pale tan color with an auburn red on the tips of their ears, nose, and tail. The Lyerod valaith is a small creature, standing height reaching barely a quarter of a zu’aan’s leg.

They are crepuscular hunters, most usually in the early morning before dawn, since it is the coolest time of day, but have been known to switch to dusk hours when hunts were low or unsuccessful for the time before. They will usually cycle though 6-hour periods; with their cycle splitting about 3 hours before and after both dusk and dawn for hunting. The valaith are a fox like genus of animals Taerel, and have many members under its name- most of which are all near identical except for minor changes to better adapt to their home region.

The other major animal of the region is the camestiel. The Inekim used them for travel throughout the region mostly. They could store large amounts of water in their body, so often they would only get water when their stores were visibly low, or when they reached the neighboring region’s lake to top off their supply. They have round flat feet with calloused pad on the bottom to withstand the heat and better move across the sand. After seeing how efficiently they moved, the Inekim used a similar design for their carts and wagons to move with more ease across the region.

Using imported leathers, the Inekim would make harnesses that connect to the carts for long travel, and more simple saddles with belts and pouches for short traveling. mThe Inkeim also kept farms. Those farm animals were used to teach the zu’aan children how to handle a variety of animals; including camestiels. They had a variety of animals imported also, specifically for farm raising- one of which is the Cinse from the Sulysh region. Unlike in Sulysh, the cinse that lived in the Lyerod region were extremely high maintenance due to needing mud to keep themselves clean and cool.

The Inekim would have to make water storage that when opened would flow into their enclosures so the cinse would have mud despite the lack of water around.
