Kalidra Boreal Plateau is a smaller region located in the northern part of the Taerel continent. It is a hilly landscape covered mostly in a large boreal forest. This region plateaus out into the region south of it. Kalidra signals passing kin’toni that they have reached the end of the cold north. Once stepping off of the perilous slopes of Parachi cliffs, they leave the north and enter central Taerel. The region is not as cold as the rest of the north and is also a lot livelier. Kalidra was claimed by the [[Gybas Kin'toni Clan]]. Culturally they were a very advanced kin’toni clan.

They believed strongly in sports and healthy competition. They moved into Kalidra shortly after the clan’s creation. They built several monuments to their original kin’toni, or their ‘creator’. They also constructed a museum that contained all the clan’s history. The clan’s original settlement in Kalidra was named Toamasin and was located along the banks of the Waimato River. The Gybas kin’toni clan lived here for several years peacefully. They were prepared to defend their own land but generally stayed out of all external wars and conflicts.

Eventually a significant event in the Kalidra Boreal Plateaus history occurred, the Great Wash. The Great Wash was a mass flooding event caused by the melting of snow further north. Due to the wars being wages and the weapons of mass destruction the zu’aan were using the global temperature was rising. The ice in the north began to melt into water and flow south. The Waimato River was affected by this sudden flush of new water and its banks promptly burst. The flooding lasted for several days and ended up covering massive portions of the region.

Toamasin was almost completely annihilated and when the floods dispersed, the Gybas could not find where their capital once stood. Much of the land affected by the flood was now buried under layers of dirt, trees and other things that had been carried by the raging waters. One clan member, however, did uncover the location of the remnants of the Toamasin museum. When he died, he gave this information to the Gybas and they were able to uncover many ancient historical artifacts and scripture from their original clan members, whom they held sacred.

The Gybas extracted these and repaired them the best they could. They brought them to the new and improved capital they had constructed shortly after the Great Wash. The city of Kalindranor stands beneath the looming peak of Mount Taros. The city is quite large for a kin’toni clan and contains multiple stadiums and running tracks for the Gybas to compete in their sporting activities. There is also a large monument that had been elected in the main square to remember the victims of the Great Wash. The rich culture and sporting aspect of the Gybas brought many other kin’toni clans in Kalindra. Many clans came to compete in the sporting events that they hosted and also to discuss trade deals.

== Geography ==

Kalindra Boreal Plateau is a very hilly region that is mostly covered in a large boreal forest of native ashri. The region is centred around its major river, the Waimato River, which provides most of the water needed to sustain life. Despite its cooler climate, Kalindra is actually a nice tourist destination. The sights are great, there are many spots the local Gybas kin’toni clan advertise. The region is also famous for its beautiful sunsets. Kalindra’s southern border is an extensive series of cliffs and drops that lead to central Taerel.

Kalindra is one of the regions that mark the end of the north and the beginning of central Taerel. These cliffs are dangerous and there are only a few commonly used paths. The local Gybas kin’toni clan make many of these available to travelling kin’toni as long as they come peacefully. The major route, known as Kalindra Heights, conveys a massive amount of traffic due to the popularity of the region amongst kin’toni. The yearly cliff climbing competition is also held near this route on a section of vertical cliffs called the Black Hangers.

Not far from the Black Hangers is where the Waimato River ends. The Waimato River starts far in the north of Taerel and flows through several regions before reaching Kalindra. The river’s banks are very far apart at almost all points. The water is quite deep but can be crossed in several places. The water it brings is cool and fresh and helps to provide the local plants and animals water to survive. The Waimato flows straight through the centre of Kalinda from north to south. There is one major bridge that the local Gybas kin’toni clan has constructed to cross it.

This bridge meets up the with road from the popular Kalindra Heights tourist entrance. The Gybas built it to make the region more accessible to tourists and sporting competitors from afar. The river ends at the cliffs in the south of the region. Here it turns into a cascading waterfall and becomes a large lake at the bottom. This lake is called Lake Tarivaras and it is a common spot for swimming races to be held. In Eastern Kalindra there stands the tallest mountain in the region, Mount Taros. This mountain is one of the tallest in Taerel and is known for its spear-like peak.

Some kin’toni refer to it as the Spearhead mountain. The mountain is a major tourist destination and is also used to host the annual mountain climbing competition. At the foot of the mountain lies the Gybas kin’toni clan’s capital city of Kalindranor. This city is very large and ambitious for a kin’toni clan during this period. The city does have small walls around it but is mostly constructed to appear welcoming. There are three major stadiums in Kalindranor, one for each major sport. The Grand is the largest stadium and is built for combat sports. The Minor is built for running and riding events. The Gybas Arena is constructed for throwing and jumping events.

== Plants ==

Kalindra Boreal Plateau is most well-known for its native ashri, but there are also several other plants that help to make the region looks a beautiful as it is. The climate is quite cold, so tall the plants in Kalinda have some form of resistance to it. The Waimato River is also the key to many of the plant’s life cycles and survival.

'''Kalindra ashri'''

Kalindra ashri are species of evergreen conifer that are native and unique to Kalindra Boreal Plateau. These trees are incredibly common throughout the region due to their hardiness and fast spreading nature. These ashri usually grow to heights of around ten to twenty metres tall. They have grey needles instead of leaves. During the sunrise and sunset, these needs become radiant shades of gold and orange. Since there are so many of them around it makes the entire landscape of Kalindra change colour.

The spectacle is a popular tourist attraction. Kalindra ashri have grey bark as well, this bark however does not change colour during the sunset. They spread by using small flowers that they grow on their higher branches. The native animals eat the nectar contained with these flowers and spread the pollen to other areas allowing the trees to spread quickly, whilst also assisting the local ecosystem.

'''Aribaras'''

Aribaras are a species of flowering plant that are native and unique to Kalindra Boreal Plateau. These plants are bright red, in both stem and leaf. They grow specifically along the banks of the Waimato River. Aribaras are most well known for their fascinating flowers. Aribaras flowers are around the size of a kin’toni arm. They are very long and thin, often resembling a long white pole. The outside of the flower is white but inside it is coloured yellow. At the bottom of the tube-like flower is a small nest of nectar surrounded in sticky Aribaras seeds.

The local animals and kin’toni help to spread these seeds around the region. However, the seeds will only grow with enough water, which usually requires them to be near the Waimato River. The local Gybas kin’toni clan grow these plants so they can pick and sell their flowers to tourists.

'''Atinmanos'''

Atinmanos is species of moss that is native and unique to Kalindra Boreal Plateau. This species of moss is grey in colour but becomes white during winter. The moss grows mostly near mountains and buildings. They prefer to live at higher altitudes and would be unable to survive in central Taerel where the land is much closer to sea level than in Kalindra. The moss is edible for the local Gybas kin’toni and they often use it to season their meals of animal flesh. It is also eaten by some of the local wildlife. Atinmanos grows very quickly no matter the season and is able to grow faster than it is eaten, usually.

It usually grows in bunches where one main plant extends several long growths off moss away from it. Kin’toni gatherers are sure to only remove the extensions and not kill the main plant so it can grow again.

== Animals ==

Kalindra Boreal Plateau is home to a variety of different creatures. The region does not have many natural predators and is a mostly symbiotic ecosystem. The cold climate does affect some of the local wildlife but mostly it is the water that dictates life in Kalindra. As the Waimato River is key to the plants it is also crucial for the wildlife.

'''Atenna'''

Atenna are a species of bird that are native and unique to Kalindra Boreal Plateau. These birds are most well known for their colourful mating displays. The male atenna are large than the females and considerably more colourful. Males usually have bright red heads, with yellow and violet bodies and wings. Females have grey wings and bodies, but still share the red head. Each mating season the atenna males search for a mate. When they find a suitor, they put on a display of colour by using their wings and feet to perform for the female.

If the female is happy with the performance, then they lay eggs together in a secure nest located at the top of the Kalindra ashri. The couple stays together for the remainder of the year until the next mating season where the male goes to find a new mate. These birds feed on the nectar contained within flowers in the region. They are some of the main pollinators in Kalindra and are responsible for the wide-spread Kalindra Conifer population.

'''Martials'''

Martials are a species of humanoid creature that are native and unique to Kalindra Boreal Plateau. These creatures stand on two legs and can appear similar to a kin’toni or zu’aan from a distance. Martials are slightly shorter than a fully grown kin’toni and the tallest ever recorded was only one and a half metres tall. These creatures roam the boreal forests throughout Kalindra searching for leaves and plants to eat. They are harmless and when threatened the just run away rather than fight. They have grey skin and large heads with no hair. Their eyes are small and completely white.

Martials have two short arms that they use to grab leaves and plants to eat. They are also known for crying out in the night when their mate or child has been killed. The local Gybas kin’toni refer to these cries as the Ghosts of the Night.

'''Harashi'''

Harashi are a species of intrusive predator that are not native but are now unique to Kalindra Boreal Plateau. These creatures came from a neighbouring region when they were pushed out by the kin’toni clan that lived there. Harashi run on all fours and are covered in brown fur. Their heads are covered in black stripes. Harashi hunt in packs, although these packs are considerably smaller now that the local Gybas kin’toni clan has begun hunting them for sport. They still attack horses and dogs which causes the Gybas clan a lot of headaches.
