==Geography ==

Ewore Verdant Sands has an interesting dynamic. Most desert regions are known more for their sand dunes. Ewore is known for its combination of barren desert and the rich, bright vegetation found at its center. Sand and dried, cracked earth surround the outer edges of the region. The ecosystem within this region is delicate and prone to destruction. While plants have evolved in order to survive, it still doesn’t take much to upset the balance. They depend on things staying the same and have very little in terms of defending themselves or surviving outside of their oasis, which takes up almost 10,000 square kilometers of the region. The oasis provides them plenty of water, which is why they wouldn’t be able to survive in any other part of the region.

Those that grow around the edges of Ewore are better suited for survival. They have characteristics that allow them to survive with very little water, store it within themselves, to handle the sometimes dry air and heat, and the ability to protect themselves against outside dangers. Most of the animal habitats are within the oasis. Birds that make their nests on the ground, mammals that burrow beneath the loose vegetation, and insects that live within some of the plants. Ewore spans an impressive span of 32,212 square kilometers. From the very edge of the region to about a hundred square kilometers inward, the land is mostly barren and devoid of life, save for a few shrubs here and there.

Valleys of sand and dried, cracked earth make the terrain rough and sometimes dangerous for travel. but it gets softer further inward. The climate of Ewore is extremely dry. During the summer, thanks to the exposed landscape due to rare cloud coverage, daytime temperatures easily reach triple digits during the day and can drop to the low twenty at night. During the winter, temperatures stay in the low thirties during the day and fall to below zero at night, easily bringing about ice and snow. Rainfall here is rare, but when it does happen, it comes in short, violent thunderstorms. Flash floods, due to the rain being unable to soak into the ground, causes narrow ravines to sometimes come about.

Small ravines, most of which have dried up, have been created by these floods. The only notable and useful one is the Yorten ravine. It sits towards the north part of Ewore. It has a depth of almost two hundred feet and a width of over fifty feet. This ravine came about after several particularly violent storms happened around the same time. This was a super rare occurrence that is unlikely to happen again. The center of this region, where vegetation is in abundance, is somewhat protected by its location and position on top of a large slab of mostly flat land stretching up about twenty feet. There is an incline of land that allows for easy travel up and allows rain water to run down.

There is a large cliff that hangs over the Rynran tribe’s settlement. It’s slightly curved, and gives the settlement plenty of shade and coverage from the sun. It’s pretty close to the oasis, less than half a day’s walk.

== Plants ==

Plant life in the Ewore Verdant Sands is sparse. Ninety percent of what grows, does so in a specific area within the center of the region. The last ten percent have the ability to grow in the more barren parts. Uknush are average sized shrubs that grow in the outer parts of the region. Despite the hard ground and lack of water, they can grow up to two feet tall. They have numerous branched, wonky stems covered in fine, wrinkled, gray bark, and the wood inside is light gray. Their branches are tall, rigid and upright with hundreds of twigs that are covered with large amounts of large, thin, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are brown, and brittle. They produce small, dull, red flowers with two umbrella-shaped petals.

These flowers only grow in the winter, when there is a bit of moisture in the air. Their thick roots stretch down almost three feet and are able to retain water. Crunna is a small succulent plant, native to Ewore, that grows around the middle of the region. They can grow to almost two and half feet, depending on how close they are to the center, but they average just under a foot. They have around four layers of green, blue, and purple leaves that grow in a square shape. The layers are short at the top and get longer as they go down. Their skin is tough and the leaves contain water. In the winter, a single flower grows in the center. The flower head is largely flat with handfuls of bright red, raised, round-tipped petals.

Crunna has the biggest population in this part of the region, and there are usually about a dozen growing around each other. They can grow high and low, but are usually found low. They have no medicinal benefits, save for slowing down dehydration. Igline is a tree that grows within the oasis in the center of the region. They are the only species of tree in Ewore. While not very tall, at only seven feet, they are the tallest plants in the region. Their pale yellow wood is covered with rigid, light green bark. Their roots stretch several dozen feet into the ground, soaking up the moisture. About two thirds of the way up their slightly curved trunks, they split outward into six.

A dozen thick branches grow from each piece of the trunk. Each branch holds a bundle of large, rounded square-shaped fruit about a foot long and nine inches wide. The fruits have hard, yellow and green skin and white flesh inside.They have a slight sweet taste to them and are extremely juicy. They hold enough water to hydrate a fully grown zu’aan. A bundle of large, pale yellow leaves with serrated edges. While the majority of the igline trees are found in the oasis, there are a few that can be found throughout the entire region. Those further away from the oasis are usually a bit shorter and their fruits are a bit smaller. The fruits fall off during the winter.

== Animals ==

Animals in the Ewore Verdant Sands are extremely aggressive and territorial in nature. Once they’ve claimed an area, they will attack all who encroach on it. Most of them, especially those who don’t live in the oasis, are carnivorous. Most of the ones who live in the oasis are omnivorous. Panarim are a unique breed of mammal native to Ewore. They’re unique in the ability to survive both inside of the oasis and outside of it. They stand at a shoulder height of almost two feet and have a length of around three feet. They have four limbs and a short, stubby tail. Coarse, brownish fur covers their thin skin. Their heads are small in comparison with their bodies and their snouts are narrow.

A set of four, round, red eyes grant them excellent vision along with their great sense of smell. They’re omnivores, but lean more towards meat. Panarim are pack hunters and like to surround their prey and slowly chip away at their defenses. Despite their small stature, they are one of the most dangerous animals in the region. They make their homes around the middle of the region, where the ground is soft, and burrow holes. They can mate at least three times a year and females give birth to at least two young per mating. Eloda are a species of wingless insect that dwell within the oasis. They grow to about three inches in length and walk on a dozen thin legs.

They have a thin, blue and yellow shell, two black horns on the sides of their heads, and a row of horns down their backs. Eloda are omnivorous, but lean towards the plant side. They are death eaters as well. They live in small holes in the ground near water. Their colonies can be anywhere from a hundred to a thousand in size. Their queens can lay hundreds of eggs at a time. Being bitten by one is an absolute death sentence to the venom they hold. They have a cousin, the red eloda, that dwell outside of the oasis, deep beneath the sand. Other than where they dwell, the only other differences between them is their shell. Sadi-eloda have an extremely hard and thick shell that is dark red.

Qaroon is a type of bird, not native to Ewore, but is common in desert regions. They have a wingspan of almost four feet across and stand at a height of four feet, making them one of the largest animals. Their long legs make up a little over two feet of their height. They have thin skin covered in large, thin, red and yellow feathers. A tuft of red feathers sits on top of their heads, spread wildly. Their yellow beaks are tough and almost a foot in length.
They’re nocturnal and capable of seeing in the dark. Qaroon mainly stay in the middle part of the region and make their nests on high cliffs. They are carnivorous and are known to attack each other over territory.

While they do mate around twice a year, they have no flock mentality. They only come together to mate. Females lay around four eggs per mating, and will usually abandon their young a year after they hatch.
