Forest dwellers, they keep to themselves but can be dangerous if disturbed

==History==

Originally city dwellers, when they first contracted the kin'toni sickness, they were shunned by other people and driven deep into hiding in the shadowy places such as run down tenements, sewer systems, abandoned and derelict places full of rats and other unseemly things. Driven insane by an huge urge for zu'aan blood. They had been a very religious and good people before that so their new existence and urges brought with it a great guilt complex and they developed a deep seated hatred for them selves. There answer was to hide deep in the dark places and regulate themselves to hunting only when they absolutely needed to.

Of course, this life did not last for ever and soon the zu'aan military found them and a terrible battle ensues. The Essildsul Clan were victorious but they knew their days in the city were numbered and now they could not stay here any longer, so they ran deep into the city limits and beyond to the forest lands where they travelled deep into these places. They built themselves a new civilisation in the forest and soon adapted to their new existence in this place and became one with their surroundings. They found fallen trees and turned them into cabins and dug deep into the ground so that they would have nice dark places to rest in.

They also became good at climbing trees and moving through the forest by swinging from branch to branch. They became one with nature and started to ascend into a different type of creature altogether. As decades went by they became part of the forest. Their skin tone even altered to amore treelike complexion. They would take leaves and wear them as headdresses making it easier for them to blend into the trees. They would hunt zu'aan on the outskirts of the forest, eventually giving the woods a reputation for being a dangerous place and best to be avoided.

They have never moved from their dwelling in the centre of the forest of Zura and if they did not required zu'aan blood to sustain themselves they would never have even gone on hunting missions to the outskirts. They made weapons out of iron. They also developed exceptional archery skills and made bow and arrows from the materials they found around them. A quiet clan, when riled they become ruthless and a force to be reckoned with. In their early years they were attacked by a few other clans who they repelled. The last time a clan attacked them they completely decimated their force.

The King then brought the enemies heads to the outskirts of the forest. Where he put them all on spikes as a display of what happened to those that thought to attack them. They have always tried not to draw attention to themselves and only venture out of the forest in search of zu'aan blood when they absolutely have to.

==Biology==

Purple irises with black sclerae and crescent pupils Tall and lean, spritely of step, these waiflike creatures are extremely fast and agile with exceptional balance. Their skin is a grey shade of green and has altered over the decades of forest dwelling. They have boundless amounts of energy and never seem to tire or grow weary. They sleep whilst sitting with their head dipped down to their chest and their arms thrown around them. They have an extremely cold temperature and it very rarely changes. Their emotions rarely change, their body rarely accelerates, it stays very much balanced and they never have any massive adrenalin rushes or imbalances.

Consequently their emotions hardly alter. They are very calm. They dream when they sleep. Their skin is quite tough, like wood. It takes a great deal of force to penetrate their hide. Their internal organs have become hardened like oak and are soft inside like a very tough pomegranate. Their blood is dark green and thick, like tree sap. They can be destroyed by a spike through the heart, if you can manage to get it put through their hard woodlike skin. Decapitation also destroys them. Their skin is somewhat hard. When they sleep they are incredibly still and seem to melt into the landscape like trees.

You would not know they were even there. They get very exhausted when they have had no zu'aan blood for over a week. They do not need much of it to survive and try to limit their intake. Their voices are very deep. Their vocal chords have gradually developed a odd texture and so the sound that emanates from them has become very deep and booming. Direct sunlight can destroy them, but their skin is so dense and their temperatures so controlled that they can endure sunlight for awhile, and although, they suffer excruciating agony they can survive for half an hour before they would be destroyed by the light.

After accidental exposure to the sun, it takes them a week to be healed from the black scarring left by the burning they endure.

==Culture==

They are a peaceful and calm clan who carry in their emotional psyche a deep sadness from the evil they believe they have done in their undead lives due to their insatiable thirst for zu'aan blood. They believe dwelling in the deep dark depths of the forest is the best and safest place for them. They listen to the rustling of the wind through the trees and have learned to communicate with the birds and other smaller animals that wander the woods. Having befriended all the little creatures that wander around this land they walk around freely and happily, knowing that the tree kin'toni have no interest in killing or eating them.

They hunt in small numbers. This is not a happy ceremony for them. It is in fact quite a sad occasion. Killing zu'aan is only something they do out of necessity and it pains them to do so. If they were scientific in nature they would try to find a cure. They think of it as a curse and do their best to limit their intake and killing of innocents. They despise this part of themselves, are consumed by guilt. They enjoy to sit around the forest and sing to each other in deep voices about ancient times. Many of the words they sing do not make sense and more resemble sounds that have emotional meaning.

Their songs have a deep resonating tone that makes the ground shake often or at least it appears to. When they communicate with one another they are very respectful and whilst one speaks, the other will listen intently. They never interrupt each other. They are peaceful and calm when they are in their own environment and they never have massive altercations with one another. Should they ever have a difference of opinion they will try their best to come to an arrangement through communication. But if they are still having an argument after several days then they must consult THE ELDER FOLK who will advise them upon their course of action.

They respect the word of The Elder Folk immensely and will do what ever is advised. They rarely like to speak of their history before they became kin'toni as it brings to much sadness to them and reminds them of many of the foul deeds they have committed in their long existence. They are very slow to do anything and their culture is based on stillness. They have taken much from nature around them to dictate their lifestyle.
They are very creative and good with their hands. Extremely concentrated. They have built an incredible dominion deep within the jungle.

They feature incredible log cabins, wooden rope bridges from tree to tree, underground dwellings that are deep in the earth and encased in wood, much like log cabins. They like to be comfortable and enjoy fine architecture. They pride themselves on being a cultured tribe. They like to create nice things with their hands from wood. They do not waste anything and only use what is of vital importance.

==Government==

The tribes leader is called THE HEAD. He is the oldest of their number and was chosen to be leader in the early days because of his many wonderful attributes including high intelligence, understanding of the world and the different cultures in it. He is also considered to be a fantastic strategist and very logical. When ever the tribe is threatened or there is trouble THE HEAD is given the stressful burden of deciding what is the best course of action for the entire clan. He will often listen to the opinions of THE ELDERS and make an informed decision best on their thoughts and also his own wisdom.

THE HEAD has excellent hearing and will listen for miles to the sounds of animals and the wind, always hoping to learn something new about the world they exist in. THE ELDERS are appointed official characters who are respected by the rest of the tribe and thought to be intelligent and trust worthy. They look out for the tribes best interests. They care deeply for the individuals and listen to all that they have to say. It is through THE ELDERS that all the individual clans people get to air their point of views. Any important matters concerning the tribe that is brought to their attention, THE ELDERS will then discuss these topics with THE HEAD.

They may often take quite a while to reach a decision. They believe in fairness, peoples individual feelings and wish to resolve everything in such a way where all parties are happy. When THE HEAD makes a big decision that concerns the entire clan or he wishes his latest plan or tactics to be told them, THE ELDERS will then address the clan in sections. Each ELDER is the ambassador for their own section of the tribe. They have no real need for laws as they are a peace loving clan and have no selfishness. They exist for each other and will do anything for their fellow clanspeople.

Any big decisions made usually concern the outside world, such an impending attack from another clan or zu'aan authorities or proposed zu'aan hunt. When tribes people are sent on a hunt the names are picked in rotation and in alphabetical order. They believe in equality and fairness and this seemed to be the fairest way they could think of. Hunting zu'aan is not a task any of them wish to do, so they choose in this manner as it is fairer. When the hunters return from the outside, they are awarded a special ceremony of song where in the centre of the forest clearing whilst the rest of the tribe sing to them in the old way.

They believe this will cleanse them of any evil that they have undergone and make them clean again. Also they wish to thank them for their diligence and gift to the tribe. A sad culture, proud and deeply creative, they are bound together by their love for one another, despite the darkness in which they live. They are connected with nature.

==Military==

They are not a premeditated warring clan and are more interested in peace and living a quiet existence away from the rest of the world , however they do understand the importance of being able to defend themselves from other warring clans, repelling their dominion from intruders and of course the necessary business of hunting zu'aan and so they spend time to train for any war, battle or sign of trouble. Their weapons are made from very strong wood and they favor large heavy clubs and hammers. They will usually crush their enemies with these, as they are extremely physically powerful and can smash heavily with their weapons.

They usually will attack an enemy slowly, smashing everything in their path. They are methodical and savage and will continue until either the sun rises or everyone and everything in their path has been destroyed. When there is call of military action, they all form a straight line and wait for THE ELDERS to give them the plan. They do not refer to it as orders as some other military's do as it is not in their nature to order each other around. They believe the tribe are equal and therefore it is is both impossible and morally incorrect to command tasks to be done. There whole psyche is built on respect.

When the ELDERS give them the details of how the battle is to be fought the tribes people will carry it out meticulously and without question. They often follow the simple tactics of slowly surrounding their enemy and hammering at them with their large weapons until they are all destroyed. It is difficult for the enemy to get close to them as the weapons they wield are huge. Also not many weapons can pierce their skins easily. Also they have huge stamina so will just keep moving and smashing the enemy all night long. Most ordinary infantry are no match for them and it would singular tactics and fighting techniques to defeat this clan.

Often the enemy will retreat early in the fight. When the enemy does this the clan do not give chase but wait for certain that they have completely gone and that it wasn’t a trick to lull them into false sense of security. But when it appears that the battle is well and truly over, then they will happily return to their forest. They are not vengeful. They would also rather avoid battling and violence when possible. Every member of the clan is well versed in combat and they often train together as a non competitive sport. They are always mindful of their fellow clans peoples skills and will always help each other to improve.

They have no ego and always share their knowledge with one another. Battle is seen as an unfortunate necessity in their existence and when at war they are fearless.

==Religion==

They believe that nature has nurturing effect on calming them and that when they are in the forest they are in synchronisation with the whole world. Here within the trees they have a sense of belonging. Their whole religion centres around the balance of nature and their place within it. They will often sit cross legged in the forest and stay their motionless for hours. None will bother or disturb them either. As this is their sacred time when they find out more about themselves and their place within the world through their own meditation time. THE ANCIENT ELDER is the one they look to for religious guidance.

She is a very old member of the clan and very knowledgeable about their history but also the ways of nature. She has studied the power of the trees and the forest grounds. Often she will guide the individuals through any turbulent times they may be facing. Any who have questions regarding nature enlightenment come and see her and she gives them answers and advice. NATURE ENLIGHTENMENT is the feeling of oneness and balance that they all search for. It is their highest form of meditation when the individual feels as if they are nature itself. They go into a very tranquil state and think as a tree would.

Only the experienced meditative being will ascend to this plateau. They have great respect for those who do. Experienced meditators will teach the other clan members how to reach the same height as them. They believe that they have done so much evil in the past that now they must atone for this any way they can, so they try their best to spread joy, humility and helpfulness around their clan. Their past is dark, and the guilt they bare for their thirst makes them strive to be better. They have only positive energies towards their other fellow clan members. It is important that half their day is spent in silence.

They believe that the binding force around them, trees, earth and moss are there true ruler and THE HEAD is merely the vessel for which nature works through. THE HEAD has reached such a huge state of NATURE ENLIGHTENMENT that he feels he has become part of the natural cycle of things. Their religion is based on nature, balance within themselves, goodness and calmness. They often look at the wind for guidance, its soft, soothing nature.
They have many religious rituals which come in the shape of gatherings where they will assemble in the clearing of the forest and sing to one another. Sometimes they will sit there in complete silence and have a meditative exchange with one another.

These rituals are very important because they have time to center themselves within the unity of the tribe and become one through the exchange of story and song. They go into trance like states in these ceremonies.
