===Historical Overview===

The wooded mountains of Deedra was always desired for the resources and gems deep beneath its surface. The Xerea Empire set up a vast mining operation throughout the region and built a large town to house the workers and their families so that they never had to leave the area and the children could become miners when they came of age. For many years they toiled to unearth the minerals and gems and other resources that would be used to build the Empire and allow it to take control of most of the continent. As the Empire grew in wealth and power, the region experienced equivalent growth.

As the Empire rebuilt the town into a full city to house even more workers and families. And just as the Empire and the mining city in Deedra reached its peak, the consequences of the Empire’s actions came to destroy them both. The fall of the Xerea Empire marked the final week of peace for the region for over three decades. The city welcomed any survivors from the capital and attempted to make the city safe despite not having the walls that other expansion cities were outfitted with. The kin'toni plague swept through the city and shelters before any real defence could be put into place.

The high population and expansive region meant that the kin'toni were able to spread out their ravaging of the area for many years without settling. Several of the zu'aan escaped the region and drew the bulk of the kin'toni forces away. Those that stayed behind indulged in make a sport out of hunting the remaining zu'aan over a longer period of time. Almost as if the fear made the blood taste better to them. For thirty years the region slowly became a wilderness that even the kin'toni grew tired of once the zu'aan were all hunted.

Once the region settled it was happened upon a travelling caravan of Xerea Empire survivors who were of the academic variety. These thinkers were capable of rebuilding the abandoned city and reinforce the defences that had failed during the first invasion. Instead of sending the resources away like the previous settlement had, this new city was strategically selfish and used the mined resources to bolster their own way of life. And when the kin'toni returned, the new city of the [[Dylaefa City Zu'Aan]] was ready for them. The outer city lasted much longer against the forces arrayed against it, but even as it fell the citizens proved ready for it.

They had built the inner city within the mountains the outer city resided on. Once the outer city fell, they closed the connecting tunnels and prevented any followers. Now the region is often invaded by those seeking the entrance into the buried city and gain access to the treasures it holds. For the kin'toni it is the zu'aan they long to drain and turn. While the other zu'aan cities are after the gems, resources, and weapons that are said to be deep within the hollowed out mountains.
==Geography==

The forested mountains of Deedra, situated north west of the old capital city of the Xerea Empire, is a place where the true worth lies below the surface. Covered in dense foliage from the base up to the beginnings of the peaks, the region is full of the scars of war for the treasures that lay within the region. And while the remnants of camps are evident all over the forests, there seems to be no settlements visible in the region. The ruins of two cities rests atop its peaks. The first being that of the old mining city built by the Empire to provide the resources for their expansion.

The second being that of the outer city of Dylaefa, whose real city now lies within the hollowed mountains. Dylaefa is divided vertically into four distinct sections, growing more expansive the deeper one descends. The Peak, where the original city stood, has been left entirely abandoned following the Great Descent, with the [[Dylaefa City Zu'Aan|Dylaefans]] only rarely emerging in small troops to search for resources. The Haven, located within Deedra’s bases, is where the Dylaefan population currently lives. The tunnels leading through the massive complex are linked by an organized web of wooden bridges.

Able to rotate and connect to alternate paths with the simple flip of a switch. Homes are loosely clustered together in hollowed out caverns, typically no more than small nooks in the craggy walls with just enough room to house small families. It is built this way so that if one Dylaefa family is in danger, another can quickly scurry to aid them without a need to search for too long. At the center of the Haven is the Sol’eir Garden, a small plaza that serves as the only place in Dylaefa with rich enough soil to grow its once famous produce.

Due to the large hole in its ceiling that allows sunlight in, it is also the only remaining path from the Haven to the Peak. The Catacombs, stretching miles beneath the Deedra Mountains’ roots, make up the majority of the mines and are where Dylaefa’s famous treasures can be uncovered. It is here that the average Dylaefan will spend most of their time, doing their duty to their people and unearthing gems and ores to sell to surface-dwelling merchants. While largely charted after a few generations, the Catacombs are expanded every day as the miners forge new paths to search, making it easy to get lost and difficult to find a way back.

The Catacombs are also home to a small selection of insects and other small animals that the Dylaefans hunt for food, and if one follows the specially marked route, they will reach Ormanir Lake, a small cavern filled with mineral-laden but still drinkable water, named as such for being a sliver of hope. But with that hope also comes a dwelling sense of doom; those who delve deep enough into the Catacombs will eventually come across a giant iron gate built into a wall of indestructible bedrock.

==Plants==

The vegetation of the Deedra region consists mainly of trees, bushes, shrubs, moss, fungi, and other plants easily found in temperate forests. As so much of the attention is often focused on what lies beneath the surface of the mountains, the forests have been allowed to grow wild and dense. The original roads created by the Xerea Empire to and from the mining city have since been swallowed by the encroaching forest. All other paths are intentionally convoluted and dangerous to detract from exploration from outsiders. They too are hidden by the overgrowth that covers most of the region.

Within the city beneath the mountains there is a special place specifically for the growing of crops and vegetables it is here that much of the famous traded food wares are first cultivated. Within the wilds of the forests are many plants with unique and as of yet untested uses. One of the many trees indigenous to the region is the grim tree. Their tree is known for its black bark, white needles, and crimson sap. The dark wood from the trees are commonly found in the buildings from the time of the Xerea Empire, while the sap went on to inspire campfire tales of trees that bleed like a person.

The true uses of the blood red sap has yet to be known to either the zu'aan or the kin'toni. But animals that eat the sap tend to live longer and slightly healthier lives if not hunted and killed. This is due to an enzyme in the fluid that boosts the immune system and the metabolism. However, due to the colour it was avoided by the zu'aan. And due to the smell the kin'toni knew it wasn’t really blood and had no interest in the sap. One of the things the city of Dylaefa is known for is the blood drop berry. This berry is known to grow in clusters on a bush with pale leaves and have a burgundy colour when ripe.

Named for its appearance in certain light, the blood drop berry is at first sweet that has a slightly tart after bite. The berry is known to aid in circulation and boosting the production of white blood cells to fight infections. Even the kin'toni clans desire the fruit to prepare their captives for being drained. This has earned the berries the nickname of the fatal fruit. Another easy to overlook but devastatingly dangerous plant from above ground in the region is the bony bush or the scream stealer. This particular stinging plant is a small bush that at first glance looks like many other bushes, but hides numerous sharp spines on its leaves and stems.

When stung by these spines, it can cause excruciating pain that can last for up to a year. This pain has been enough to cause bears suffering under it run down to the nearby lake region and drown themselves to end the pain.

==Animals==

The wooded mountains of Deedra are well suited for a burgeoning wildlife. The dense foliage made it possible for them to hide for all but the closest of inspections. This meant that even while they were being hunted, they often had such a large population that they were never in danger of extinction. So when the Xerea Empire was in control of the region, the animals paid them little mind and even openly approached the settlement when it was still just a town. It took those who got too close to be killed for the rest to just ignore the area.the entire rest of the region was open for them to make their own.

And continue to expand their population. When the kin'toni plague swept through the mountains there was a slight shift as the forest was then full of an insatiable new carnivore who hunted indiscriminately. As the initial zu'aan settlers began running out the clans turned to hunting the wildlife as well. This decimated several of the animals that had been more comfortable getting close to the settlements, but eventually the kin'toni abandoned the region and the wildlife had full control. The population exploded and covered the entire region.

This time the arrival of the zu'aan who would build Dylaefa was recognised as potentially dangerous and so the animals left the peaks alone. This allowed them to survive as other zu'aan and returning kin'toni clans fought for the wealth of resources in the hollowed out mountains. One of the most prevalent animals in the region is the the devil horned goat. These stocky mountain mammals are recognised by their twisted spiralled horns that form an intimidating silhouette of a dual fanged maw. Though initially making their homes amongst the peaks of Deedra.

The goats have been driven to reside in the mountain bases and thrive off the dense vegetation. While they had been hunted for their meat and to be domesticated as farm animals during the time of the Xerea Empire, these aggressive little grazers were deemed not worth the risk of being hit by their horns hard enough to break bones or potentially be skewered by the sharp points. Another common indigenous animal that still calls the mountains of Deedra their home is the the giant pale bear or more commonly the gruesome bear. Known for its massive size, light grey fur.

And brutal aggression when someone enters their territory, the gruesome is a omnivore that sits as the undisputed apex of its region. It’s long serrated claws can rip through the trunks of trees and is often scavenged from the corpses of their dead to be used as spear heads. There is not much that the gruesome has to fear in the region, except for the kin'toni and the leaves of the bony bush. Those that have a run in with the unassuming plants are often subject to such great pain that they will flee the region to drown themselves in the neighbouring lake region.
