==Geography==

The Culleo region was created by a giant lake that existed in the middle of the region and flooded out of its banks to create the surrounding swamps. The Culleo terrain was particularly flat and prone to flooding. The more elevated sections of the region were concentrated on the outskirts of the swamps and became the first regions to be inhabited by the zu'aan. The swamps on the other hand would only be populated after the kin'toni outbreak when Helgitli Iriadehe and her followers escaped here, in an attempt to avoid the widespread chaos of the more accessible parts of the region.

The Culleo swamps had very limited vegetation and most of it comprised of very similar shrubs that grew to about waist height. These plants had very limited nutritional value for the zu'aan who had to rely on hunting for their dietary needs. The zu'aan settlers of the region utilized these plants and various other reeds to create their rafts and structures by weaving them together to form a strong and pliable surface that was also buoyant in water. The Baldrun settlers of the region made their homes in the small elevated pieces of ground where they would construct structures made of baked mud bricks.

Construction was very limited in the region and transportation and road facilities were almost nonexistent due to the difficulty of building roads over the permanently swampy ground that accounted for almost eighty percent of the region. boats and rafts were the common means of transport in the region but were used very sparingly since the inhabitants of the swamps were desperate for privacy to avoid detection by any of the kin'toni hordes that lived all around them. Despite the lack of resources in the surface, the region was filled with a wide variety of wildlife and had a complex ecosystem that comprised of both the aquatic wildlife and surface animals.

The region was very warm all year round and received plenty of sunlight. This combined with the presence of surface water all over the region led to the constant present of moisture in the air and its characteristic high humidity and stifling atmosphere. The Culleo region experienced two distinct seasons in a year. The summer season and the monsoon season. During the summers, the temperatures would soar to the mid-thirties with very high rates of humidity. The skies would remain clear for the duration of this period and the region would receive little to no rainfall.

The temperatures in the region would begin to drop once the monsoon season arrived. They would average in the mid-twenties but would retain the characteristically high levels of humidity. The region would experience incessant rainfall during this period and the levels of the swamp waters would rise above their normal levels.

==Plants==

The Culleo shrub swamp region was home to a small variety of very specific vegetation that could survive in the warm and inundated settings of the region. the overwhelming presence of shrubs in the region gave the region its distinctive designation as a shrub swamp. These plants grew out of the swamp waters and extended to about waist height. The plants had to be able to process oxygen from the swampy waters to avoid drowning. Clumps of these shrubs acted as natural obstacles and were inhabited by the fishes and aquatic creatures of the region who lay their eggs among them.

The most common vegetation in the region were the sayusk shrubs and the strale reeds that occurred all over the region. Other vegetation that were worth a mention were the rarer lytair and therser aquatic plants that grew beneath the surface of the swamp waters. The sayusk were the most common type of shrubs that grew all over the region and were the most visible signs of vegetation. They could rise to a maximum height of over five feet above the swamps. Their long wiry roots were firmly entrenched deep into the soil while their bony stems stuck out of the waters.

The shrub had small waxy leaves that grew all over it but produced no fruit, and had very limited nutritional value. The sayusk had a distinctive yellow color that stood out from the muddy waters of the swamp. The strale reeds were a common form of reed that occurred in large clumps that would cover large areas within the Culleo swamps. The entire length of the reed was made of a pliable and hardy material that did not break easily and were instrumental in the creation of rafts and other woven structures that were both light and durable.

The strale had a bright green color that would progressively turn a light golden once it was plucked from the river. The lytair and the therser were both underwater aquatic plants that were found in abundance all over the swamps. They were a more viable source of nutrition than any of the surface plants of the region and were regularly consumed by the wildlife as well as the zu'aan when they couldn't find any meat source. The lytair was a distinctive dark blue in color with a tinge of green and had very fleshy leaves that were long, flat and wiry, and would flail around in the swamp waters.

They had tiny bulbs of transparent green that grew out of their stalks. These bulbs were tasteless but had concentrated amounts of protein that could stave off hunger in the zu’aan. Both of these plants were not easily malleable and were useless for creating crafts or construction. The therser was a thinner variety of the lytair that could easily come loose from the water bed when there were changes in tide or interference from any aquatic animals passing nearby. They could also be eaten like the lytair and lacked the distinctive bulbs of their cousins.

==Animals==

The Culleo region had a healthy ecosystem consisting of both plants and animals that existing within these deserted swamps. They were undisturbed for many centuries, allowing them to multiply in peace and take over the entire region. The animals of the Culleo region were either amphibious or aquatic animals like fishes and eels. The region was also a haven for many migratory birds who would flock into the region to escape the cold of their regular habitats. Some of the most common and famous wildlife in the region were the therser- a dam building amphibious animal,

The risash- a freshwater fish commonly eaten by the zu'aan, the ess'ryn a sleek eel and the yghai- a migratory bird resembling a stork. The therser were a small bear-like species that lived together in large colonies. They were known for their prehensile limbs that allowed them to grab stems and weeds, to create complex dam-like structures. The therser was capable of creating dry areas in this way, where the group would raise their fledglings. The Therser had a water-proof coat of thick fur as well as a layer of fat that was very valuable to the people of the region.

The risash was the most common species of fish found in the Culleo swamp region. It was not particularly large and measured over six inches in length. It was quite fleshy and had great nutritional value. In terms of appearance, the risash was easily visible from the surface because of a bright yellow streak that ran along its sides. Their side profile was quite large which made the fish an easy target for the hunter's spears. The ess'ryn was an eel like creature that dwelled within the cracks and crevices of the Culleo swamps.

It was capable of delivering shocks when it felt threatened and was responsible for causing many deaths in the region. The ess'ryn was colored a dull blue and generally fed on other smaller organisms of the swamps and the roots of plants and weeds. The yghai was a migratory bird that would fly into the region to escape the colder winters in its habitats far in the north. They travelled in large flocks and covered thousands of miles before they arrived in the Culleo region. Their stay could last for over three months which they would spend preparing for their arduous journey back to their habitat.

All its physical features were adapted to maximize the bird's efficiency in the air- their body was streamlined for flight and ihad long wings that allowed them to glide with the stronger air currents. The bird stood on tall, wiry legs that allowed it to stay above ground and spot potential danger when on land. It had a very versatile diet but generally preferred to the hunt the risash fishes in the region. It was a skilled hunter and could consistently catch fishes with the help of its long beak. The zu’aan hunters would regularly use these birds to locate major concentrations of fish within the swamps.
