In the early days, before the Awakening age, the Cersamhin Evergreen was a large expansive region inhabited by a small number of unnotable zu’aan cities and settlements, save for the largest in the region by the name of Cersamhin. As time neared the Awakening, the zu’aan living in the Taiga had started harvesting resources from the outer edges of the forest dwindling the near million acreage to just over 600 thousand to expand their cities and wealth.

Due to their location in the North-Eastern quadrant of Taerel, the first waves of the kin’toni’s escape and infection did not reach them and as such they continued to live oblivious to the turmoil going on in the world, continuing to harvest the forest. By the time the first kin’toni clans had found their way to the taiga, the forest was a mere fraction of its original glory. The zu’aan settlements were quickly picked off by the kin’toni clans, and most of the cities fell by way of attack or atomic weapons by the beginning of the Shattering age.

The last true remnant of the zu’aan before the Awakening age- Cersamhin- fell after the [[Xild'eni Kin'toni Cla]] waged war on behalf of the [[Kelet Kin'toni Clan]]. The battle lasted a week, for the zu’aan who were more concerned with their own survival destroyed the surrounding forest area in an attempt to fend off the Xild’eni. The Kelets named the forest ‘Cersamhin Evergreen Taiga’ after the victory over the last known zu’aan city in the region and kept it in their possession of controlled territory for a short period of only a decade.

After such time, they gave the region to the Xild’eni clan as a reward for their numerous victories on their behalf. From there the forest became the Xild’eni’s home. They settled in the ruins of the Cersamhin city. Under their care, or lack thereof, the forest started to rebuild itself outward on the desolate plateau left behind by the forest’s predecessors. The area surrounding the kin’toni stronghold was always in a state of flux, as the Xild’eni used the area for training, but while gone for war the fauna would regrow only to be taken down in training once the Xild’eni returned.

Due to the forest’s still relatively large size, and the Xild’eni’s views on anything other than battle, survivors of the initial zu’aan settlements and cities who’d escaped the kin’toni made a handful of small tribes (never more than a dozen or so) that navigate the Northern most sections of the forest. They remain unnamed as, due to the harsh weather, it was not uncommon for most or all of the tribe to be wiped out by an unforgiving frozen season. When the Xild’eni would leave the forested area for war, the tribes would wander South to collect what resources they could for a short time before the Xild’eni returned.

Most tribes would be able to successfully avoid the resident kin’toni clan, but some sometimes got caught in the crossfire of other clans who attempted revenge on the Xild’eni and were either wiped out or turned.

== Geography ==

Cersamhin Evergreen Taiga is part forest and part plateau that is located in the North-Eastern section of Taerel. In the past the entire million-acre region was completely forest, but throughout the ages was harvested and cut down to about 1/3rd it’s original size, which created a desolate ringed plateau surrounding the forest (creating unfavorable invading conditions, but idela defensive surveillance). Just West of the center of the region a river runs though the taiga to the region below.

From the river, there are a series of small brooks that distribute some of the water to the Eastern region of the forest and to the other Eastern regions. For most of the year, the forest is snow covered and the ground becomes frozen, limiting how quickly the forest can regrow. During the frozen period the sun only raises to a quarter of the way in the sky with daylight time extremely short, it’s rare that temperatures get above freezing during this period. In the sunny season, the sun raises to about 45 degrees above the horizon (never directly overhead).

But stays in the sky making days almost triple in length compared to the frozen season. When the snow thaws, in the Southern region of the territory, the ground retains the water creating swamp like pockets in the forest. The small brooks thaw as well, distributing the water to the drier areas north of the swamp pockets. The entire region rests on a flat plain with a slight incline, the ruins of zu’aan settlements and cities, as well as Xild’eni commissioned structures, being the only kind of ascending masses beyond the forest’s vegetation.

The old cities were created partly with stone harvested around the river but were majorly made from wood of the downed trees. The commissioned structures by the Xild’eni stand out against the forest as, when contracted, materials were brought from outside the forest to create them, unlike the ruins, or the city of Cersamhin. As there were many religions, the structures varied greatly which caused pandemonium for the landscape, from complete stone small multistory buildings to half underground half above with light catching details that stand out to platforms that more resembled a watch tower than religious building.

When the Xild’eni brought religious objects back from their travels, they would often get scattered around the region in their absence, either by weather, zu’aan, or various animals. Some pieces would find their way into the river, which would wash them down stream and get them caught in the old ruins of cities bordering the river, which created a small damn in those areas. The old ruins of the zu’aan people would sometimes make cave like structures in their dilapidation, which the larger ground-based species would use as makeshift dens during the frozen periods.

The more secure of ruins in the North were sometimes used as food storage if the zu’aan tribes were staying in one area for an extended period. Precipitation is neither common nor uncommon in the area. In the frozen season its limited to snow, and in the sunny season its only rain. In the between seasons, sleet may sometimes take place as the temperatures were constantly in flux between the region’s extremes. More often than not the various precipitations are concentrated in the Southern areas, leading to and fueling the creation of the swamp pockets.

== Plants ==

Cersamhin’s forest is made up majorly of extremely tall trees that average 400 feet tall for the smallest species. The trees stay the same throughout all the season, with the only exception being when individual strands or leaves start to die. wilspinara is the most abundant in the region; a mature wilspinara can grow to an average of about 700 feet. The wilspinara doesn’t have any leaves or needles, but instead has hair and fur like strands that line and hang from the branches.

The strands remain a metallic silver while alive and when hit at the right angle with light cause the trees to look like they are on fire. When the strands die, they turn to a bright neon blue color before falling off. Other trees in the region, due to cross breeding over time, have fur like hair lining the bark, but other wise have leaves or needles. The ground, when not frozen is covered in a variety of shrubs and bushes, varying in height from 1 to 4 feet high on their own, or roughly 10 feet for the vining variety.

When the frozen season arrives, most plants die off, save the largest and most self-sustaining of that season. Varieties such as ophintaris, ufutbzan, ritntera, and dintagan have a marginally larger chance of surviving the frozen season due to their temperature resistance; in comparison to gibsas, agabat, pugharu, or illapoggo as they have a lower-level temperature resistance. The forest only contained one plant safe for zu’aan consumption by the name of pahn berry.

The small pahn berry shrubs would produce berries and flowers that would release a strong mix of fruity and musky scent to attract animals and could be smelled from great distances depending on the creature’s scent abilities. The berries were encased in a golden yellow skin, with a green tinted pulp and provided a moderately sweet flavor when consumed. The leaves of the shrub were common in many remedies for ailments and injuries- as evident in their common mention in the Xild’eni’s healing records.

Pahn berry like wilspinara is an all-season plant, which self pollenates and keeps a relatively even cycle- when there’s a sharp temperature change though the flowers or berries would be shocked into the other state. Berries would fall off and flowers produced quickly in their place, flowers forming berries in an extremely short period. Both releasing the strong scent associated with the plant at each switch. The other plants, while toxic to the zu’aan, were safe for the other creatures of the forest.

One such plant being the torstolun. The torstolun is the main food source of the gautgodra and farlupend, which after eating would scatter the seeds around the forest. The Torstolun is also a plant that is commonly mentioned in the Xild’eni’s healing records, though it is of the type that has to have its medicinal properties activated by an outside compound, and as such must be combined with other herbs, unlike the pahn berry. The ring surrounding the forest rarely houses any plants beyond tree saplings that are in close proximity to the mature tree line.

The plants that do manage to survive are the quick growing variety and are often killed when the first frost hits the region.

== Animals ==

The forest has a small selection of large animals, most being of the carnivorous type. The majority of the species variety in the region comes from the small herbivore species or the flying type omnivores. During the frozen winter season, most of the flying type creatures migrate to different regions away from the cold weather. Vaarai is the only flying type creature, they stay for an exponentially shorter period- about 7 sunny season days- before leaving the region to spend 7 days in another region, cycling through many regions before returning the next season.

Vaarai are covered in scales, and are moderately large in size, being about 2 feet tall when on all fours. Along with wings, they also have a layer of skin connecting their arms and torso, so should they be injured they can still glide significant distances. In the short time they are in the Cersamhin region, they create hundreds of new nests and dens in the forest- which other creatures take over once the vaarai leave. The most common of the large animals are the oroilltet. They are a cat like species with retractable claws for climbing, and a split spiked tail.

The oroilltet will use their tail to smash dens made in the trees so they can feed on the creatures and their young nesting inside. Like the xild’eni, the oroilltet’s fur is a golden color which acts as camouflage when they hunt from up in the trees. The only time a oroilltet is seen on the ground is if it is chasing prey from that managed to escape from the treetops. Oroilltets live in the branches about midway up the trees making relatively stable nest areas from bones, branches, and strands from the trees.

They’re larger than the xild’eni when full grown but weigh less as they have hollow bones which are majorly protected by a thick layer of strong muscles. The Farlupend, known mainly for consuming Torstolun, is one of the main food sources for the Oroilltet. In spite of this, the farlupend are still the most abundant of small sized creatures living in the forest area. They have short stubby legs, but an extended torso and tail almost double the length of their body for better reach when climbing in trees.

Matured females will grow small sets of horns and spikes along the spine and end of the tail to enable them in minor protection while pregnant. During the frozen season they gain a winter coat and go from slim slicked down fur to extremely fluffy (almost complete balls of fluff). They mainly spend most of their time on the ground, traveling from one Torstolun plant to another. When they go back to their dens at night and sleep in when most farlupend are caught by Oroilltet.

The oroilltet and Farlupend are known to the zu’aan tribes living there for having the warmest pelts, so its not uncommon for them to be hunted despite exorbitant amount of effort it takes to successfully kill either and the low payoff rate in meat per kill. Some other herbivore type creatures the zu’aan hunt are the Klampkie, Gautgodra, Jacleth, and the Tronixstan.
