== History ==

The Aeni Lonely Mountains - formerly known as the Aeni Mining Citiscape - are currently home to the descendants of Zu’aan formerly employed by the Bufar Energy Corporation, which collapsed in the decades after the great plague occurred between 3E 3000 - 3010. The Aeni Mining Citiscape was a project proposed by the reigning C.E.O of the Bufar Energy Corporation - Bufar Saeral. Prior investigation revealed the presence of large Tupkel Mineral deposits in the Aeni Mountain range. As Tupkel was one of the BEC’s prime sources of energy generation upon refinement and combustion, Saeral proposed the plan to build a mining settlement within and around the Aeni mountain range.

The board of directors at the time saw the potential for vast profits and pushed for the development of the proposed mining settlement. The project was publicly announced on 3E 2877 and construction of the settlement occurred from 3E 2878 to 3E 2891. The grand opening of the newly named Aeni Mining Citiscape occurred in the seventh month of 3E 2891 and mining began close to a year later in 3E 2892. The Aeni Mining Citiscape operated uninterrupted for close to fifty years from 3E 2892 to 3E 2945. The year that the suspected first cases of the kin’toni plague occurred. The plague’s rapid spread and the violent tendencies displayed by the afflicted caused the various continental councils to implement a martial law enforced quarantine in all hive cities, city-states, kingdoms and empires.

The quarantine caused intercity trade to slow significantly, which in addition to the AMC’s isolated location and dependence on supply importation kick-started the slow decline of the local’s interpersonal relationships and their ability to keep the citiscape running. The citiscape as a whole continued to exist until the Kin’toni population rose to approximately 25% of the world’s total population in 3E 3015 This was far beyond the various world administrations’ ability to handle, leading to the collapse of several governing bodies, kingdoms and companies; including the Bufar Energy Corporation. The fall of the AMC’s parent company was the singular event that caused its collapse. Without outside assistance in the form of toiletries, food and repair supplies the population of the AMC rapidly began to decline.

The AMC population dropped to the point where it was impossible for them to continue to inhabit the mining settlement safely, forcing the remaining Zu’aan out into the unforgiving climate of the surrounding mountains. In the following years, the last remnants of the people who lived in the Aeni mountain settlement further dwindled. Their descendants however, survived and with their loss of access to the technology of the Third Era and the Hive-net they began to call themselves the Bufar tribe. The Bufar Tribal Zu’aan currently inhabit the branches of the densely clustered trees that dot the lower levels of the now named Aeni Lonely Mountains, battling the local animal populations for survival and hiding their presence from roving Kin’toni warbands that aim to hunt them down to the last.

== Geography ==

The Aeni lonely mountains are located within the Aeni mountain range on the Iral continent. These mountains are defined by the craggy terrain and tall peaks that stretch above the clouds. The tallest peak of the Aeni Lonely Mountains has been measured to be approximately 7.159 kilometres tall. And the mountain range stretches to a length of just over 4,600 kilometres, being the third largest mountain range on the continent and fifth overall globally. The densely packed stone and steep climb makes it incredibly difficult to settle in the area leading to the mountains being roughly 100 kilometres away from any major Hive-cities. The Aeni Lonely mountains display a wide range of ecosystems as a result of differing altitudes, climates and geological processes in the area.

At lower altitudes, the mountain is covered in dense forests dominated by the large and resilient megaflora with roots that drill deep into the rocky ground below. These forests are rich in biodiversity, providing homes for many fauna and flora such as the yaralru and theyana As you proceed further up the mountain, the landscape transitions to tundra and wide open clearings filled with various grasses, weeds and bushes; which dot the rocky outcrops and cliff faces. This mountain zone is the preferred resting place of both the Alpine akxatri and trith'ari due to the hardy and quickly propagating plant life and distance from their predators on the lower levels of the mountains.

This same area on the mountain is also home to the ruins of the Aeni Mining Citiscape. The outskirts of the city rendered inhospitable to all but the Kin’toni and their unprecedented adaptability. The true city is located deep within the heart of the mountain surrounded by hard rock and Tupkel deposits, locked behind inoperable metal vault doors that can only be opened via the energy supplied from the technology of the previous era. Technology only able to be powered by the now non-functional Tupkel reactors within the dead city. Ascending further, the peaks of the Aeni Mountains are the only area more inhospitable than the former Aeni Mining Citiscape. This zone of the mountain only holds large barren stretches of ice capped stone.

Very few plants and no animals are found to be able to survive for extended periods in this area, should they survive the trip to the top. The mountain’s glaciers found here are indispensable to the ecosystems on the rest of the mountain. Runoff waters from the slowly melting glaciers flow through worn channels that lead all the way down the mountainside. The streams and rivers formed carry minerals and nutrients from habitats at the top of the mountain to the great forests below, near single handedly supporting all life to be found on the mountain. As a natural landmark the Aeni Lonely Mountains hold major cultural, recreational and ecological significance to the Bufar Tribal Zu’aan, as they regard the mountain as home, friend and lifegiver all in one.

== Plants ==

One of the plants native to the Aeni Lonely Mountains is the megaflora species of tree that dominates the ecosystem at the base of the mountain. The pathandu form the backbone of the dense forest as the only tree species to consistently and continuously thrive in the Aeni mountain area. They have strong roots capable of splitting stone and digging deep into the mountainous rock to gain access to soil deposits that other plants are unable to reach. Their large trunks and towering heights make their large network of interconnecting branches the ideal home for the Bufar Tribal zu'aan The second notable flora species on the mountain is known as the exia'yr. This species is a hybrid of shrubbery and herb that covers the forest floor.

This species has a distinct range of vibrant colours that change according to the minerals and pH level of the soil wherever they happen to sprout. Their vibrant colours attract insects and the Alpine akxatri who spread their pollen and seeds far and wide, over the wide stretch of forest floor. Their above trait of changing colour depending on soil conditions has been indispensable in reducing deaths within the Bufar tribe from illness or poison caused by consuming tainted plant samples.

The middle zone of the Aeni mountains are home to a pair of fast growing but short lived weed species that outgrew and subsumed any other plant life that attempted to grow in the perpetually snow covered areas of the mountain. The aishgti andren'ardaare an example of carrion eaters in the plant world, consistently being found to grow over and quickly consume the remains of dead plants and animals found in their habitat. Their hardy nature is theorised to have come from constant exposure and adaptation to hazardous chemicals that were improperly disposed of at the outskirts of the Aeni Mining Citiscape. This plant is the primary meal of choice of the trith'ari, most likely hinting as to the origin of their strong digestive systems.

At the mountain peaks, very few plant species are able to survive. Amidst the cracks and slopes on the mountain's face lies the yasursti, a moss species notable for surviving in some of the most extreme conditions known to zu'aan. They live in self-sustaining ecosystems that tend to be less than a handful of centimetres tall. The yasursti provides vital habitation to various small insect species and other small creatures. Creating miniature bastions of life amidst the unforgiving landscape of glacial ice and craggy rock. The flora present on the Aeni Lonely Mountains has been a subject of discussion by biologists for decades, if not centuries. The ecosystem found on the mountain maintains a near self-sufficient balance not found in other extreme biomes.

For the above reasons, there have been a notable number of deaths as a result of curious and underprepared researchers setting forth to the mountains to decipher the hidden knowledge behind this rare phenomenon.

== Animals ==
The yaralru is an intriguing species of large carnivorous mammal that inhabits the Aeni Lonely Mountains. The yaralru is characterized by its imposing stature, dense fur, and incredible hunting prowess, this yaralru variant is a testament to the power of evolutionary adaptation in desolate environments. Notably, it has evolved alongside the trith'ari, another animal species local to the Aeni Lonely Mountains. Equipped with sharp senses and efficient hunting abilities, these yaralru chase their large prey through steep terrain, aided in their hunt with high agility and the precision to navigate treacherous slopes. Their very existence displays the intricate nature of how predator and prey dynamics play crucial roles in maintaining ecosystem stability.

The trith'ari is an extraordinarily large ungulate (hoofed mammal) species, in defiance of the unforgiving nature of its mountainous home, and the relentless pursuit the species faces from its natural predator: The yaralru, this particular variant of thrives. Distinguished by their immense size, bulky build and formidable horns, this creature represents the peak of evolutionary adaptation to desolate environments. Their seemingly endless stamina, hoofed feet, and strong stomachs aide them in thriving within the Aeni Lonely Mountains, allowing them to graze on scarce and poisonous vegetation, while belaying predation from the endless hunger of the equally formidable yaralru. The Bufar Tribal Zu’aan have been noted to watch over and attempt to defend the Capra from yaralru attacks.

The akxatri is a small yet resilient avian species indigenous to the same rugged mountain habitat as the trith'ari and yaralru. With its diminutive frame and dull plumage, this species is near-perfectly suited to the harsh environment of the Aeni Mountains. This species evolved to subsist off the carrion left behind by the yaralru, this trait seems to have led to a symbiotic relationship between the akxatri and Aeni yaralru. Where the avian species will lead yaralru packs to wounded or dying animals in exchange for feeding off the scraps and corpses left behind after the hunt. The akxatri is an incredible example of intelligence and resourcefulness in animals, as well as an intriguing example of the importance of scavengers in the wilderness.

The yana is the last notable resident of the Aeni Mountains. This species is a stealth oriented predator that specializes in hunting alone. They prefer to hunt smaller, isolated prey tending to incapacitate their chosen targets before quickly eating them alive. This predatory feline, like the akxatri is adorned with marks unique to the Aeni mountains. Specifically, their tufted ears and thick fur coat designed to conserve their body heat in cold climates. This animal traverses the mountains with graceful movements and silent steps. One notable fact about them is their taste for the Alpine akxatri and members of the Bufar tribe native to the area.

More research is required to unravel the behaviours and ecological intricacies of all the named animals in this particular area.
