==Geography==

The Achceros Pastureland is made up almost exclusively of plains and pastures. Sure, there are some small hills mixed in between, but the region is one of the flattest on Taerel. Despite the lack of variety when it comes to elevation, the Achceros region doesn’t bore one with its geography. There are rivers and lakes flowing with azure treasure, the biggest one of these being called River Tiaren by the kin’toni living nearby, in reference to Ner’us Tiaren, a giant in kin’toni mythology from who’s blood it is believed the river was created from.

Achceros is also the home to spectacular lush forests of trees which can only be found in this little corner of the world. But it is not just the forests that are so resplendent. The area is known for its seemingly infinite pastures of fresh-smelling grass and flowers. Animals tend to come to the area to graze, while kin’toni and zu’aan come there just to enjoy the glistening sun and the soothing, hazy lull that fills the air of the Achceros Pastures when all the fauna are out. It is here that kin’toni find meditation and peace in their hearts, hardened by the rough hand of the Twilight Age.

Achceros is collectively considered to be a fortune that kin’toni clans must preserve at all cost. The Achceros Pastures remain warm and friendly to kin’toni life even in the winter, and while other regions in more moderate climates get bombarded with constant torrents of rain in the summer and fall, precipitation in the pastures remains consistent throughout the year. It truly is the perfect place for Taerel’s wildlife to assemble. Food is always plentiful as well, both for the predators and the prey. There is much more of the latter in the pastures though, as the herbivores migrate there when nutrition in their region is lacking, but the predators don’t always need to follow to survive.

Everything about wandering about in the pastures, the gentle splashing of the water of a nearby river, the faint breeze ruffling the plants ever so slightly, the saccharine fruit that grow on Achceros’ majestic gardens, all play a part in forming the tranquil atmosphere that is exclusive to the Achceros Pastures. Some kin’toni have speculated that this area was where all life started, a heavenly garden of Eden for all of Taerel’s clans. Sometimes it may be difficult to determine what is myth and what is truth. Perhaps, Achceros is the place where ancient tales and reality meet, a place where one’s dreams are indistinguishable from reality.

It is a shame that the climate is shifting in the Achceros Pastureland too. While winters used to always be bearable, the winter in Achceros two solar years ago was the most destructive for the region yet. Snow was seen in the sultry plains for the first time ever, and the pleasant, slightly cool winter turned into an utterly unpleasant three months. Some unprepared kin’toni even perished from the bitter cold that struck Achceros that day, and kin’toni clans prophesized that this event was a punishment by the gods, taking away a real observable miracle on Taerel, simply because the kin’toni disobeyed their laws.

==Plants==

Where does one start talking about the flora of Achceros? When one is taking a stroll through the Achceros Pastureland, it almost seems like every flower, every tree, every tiny blade of grass is unique. Among the flowers, not a single shade is repeated, inuils and alearas like those found up North in the Boreal Highlands bloom and prosper here as well, and so do the emerald-coloured zi’fil of the far west, the magenta tura’at from the east, even the dark desert roses do.

It seems like that Achceros Pastureland has become a gathering place for all sorts of flowers, a mixing ground for breeds that morph over time into even more exotic types. Some plants from the Achceros Pastureland don’t even have one dominant colour. The soenes are famed because they are half-cyan, half purple. It’s rare to see even one of those two colours alone in Taerel’s flora, so both of them compressed into a single plant turns it into some kind of unearthly beauty for the kin’toni. Grass also somehow manages to be notable in the Achceros Pastureland, because there exist dozens of different grasses.

There is tall, dense grass that grows near the Achceros lakes and makes it the perfect hiding spot for predators who camouflage with the plants and wait for a herbivore to come to the lake for a drink of fresh water. On the other hand, the tiny hills of Achceros are covered with a pelt of incredibly short, yet still very dense grass. The plains are constantly trimmed by the grazing animals, which stop the length from getting out of hand. Sometimes, one would stumble upon a minute forest in the middle of the Achceros pastures. These forests too, served a crucial role.

Zu’aan would pick sweet-smelling fruits from the trees that inhabited those places, and so would the taller animals of Achceros. The one that the kin’toni valued the most was the chezua tree. It barely holds any nutritious value, but it’s notable for the effect that it has on kin’toni minds. Upon consuming the fruit of the chezua tree, a kin’toni will suddenly feel in peace with themselves and the world. It’s noted that they will go into a meditative trance, sometimes hallucinating strange things which they may, or may not be able to decipher.

For some kin’toni clans near the chezua forests, the kin’toni who regularly eat this fruit are considered oracles with powers that allow them to communicate with their gods. Consumption in small doses doesn’t lead to such extreme effects, but overall jollier moods and a feeling of relaxation in kin’toni. Despite being mostly used recreationally, some claim that the tree also has healing properties, and that those healing properties extend to its leaves and roots as well as its fruit. Therefore, the chezua tree is also utilized by kin’toni who believe in traditional medicine.

Overall, just this one plant in the sea of thousands that Achceros offers, plays a huge role in the cultures of nearly all kin’toni clans living near the Achceros Pastureland.

==Animals==

Being a land of pastures, it’s only natural that Achceros attracts a great amount of herbivorous animals from other parts of Taerel. Aumat flock into the Acheros Pastureland from the North when the cold gets too harsh even for these behemothic creatures. Their mighty tusks uproot entire forests as the aumat hordes rush towards a warmer, more accepting land. Being tall and muscular, the aumat can reach the tallest trees of the forests near the pastures. It has been observed that the chezua tree also has an effect on them, sending them off into some sort of drunken rage that calms after an hour or two.

Lo’tu are the main inhabitants of the Achceros Pasturelands though, being the creatures that spend the longest grazing on those pastures themselves. The lo’tu in Achceros are all wild, untamed. Even though some clans are aware of the ability to tame lo’tu and utilize them as both mounts and carriers for heavy goods across long distances, they have decided that it’s more important not to disrupt the rich ecosystem that the Achceros Pasturelands have right now, especially since an incoming ice age has the potential to wipe all lo’tu from the face of Taerel forever.

A type of animal unique to the pasturelands though is the maerue. Those powerful beasts are equipped with gigantic, curved horns which stop their territory from being contested, even by Taerel’s most horrifying predators such as the sabre-toothed azot, a canine carnivore who is perfect at camouflaging himself in Achceros’ grass. They are solitary animals, and can easily take down a fully grown lo’tu on their own, even without an ambush. The maerue though, are not as helpless. In fact, they are fierce animals who may be hostile to anyone who threatens them, or their territory.

Their impulsive and unpredictable temper is something that has made the kin’toni treat these creatures with outmost respect and fear. The maerue also live up North in Taerel’s mountains, where their hooves allow for extremely effective traversal of terrain dangerous to most other animals. Another carnivorous animal that the peacefully grazing herbivores of the Achceros Pastureland have to be on the guard for is the sa’zar, a limbless reptile whose bite is imbued with venom that can kill an animal as large as the aumat in less than an hour.

The kin’toni who settled in the Achceros pastures at first were absolutely terrified of this animal, so they hunted them with bows until near-extinction. The sa’zar are still quite rare in modern Taerel, but they have only gotten more deadly with years of adaptation. Better camouflage, a more agile build, better resistance to the cold to deal with the incoming ice age. It’s likely that the sa’zar will overtake the spot as the apex predators of Achceros in the very near future, but it’s still unknown how they will fare against armoured kin’toni equipped with weapons of iron and bronze.
