==Geography ==

Kaimalrae White Orchard spans a space of nearly four hundred square kilometers towards the north. There are over six dozen rows, hundreds of trees making up each, that make up the orchard. There is about a five foot space between rows and about two feet between the trees. Hundreds of trees spaced around two feet apart make up the orchard. Like its name, the barks of all of these trees are white, despite them growing different types of produce. Some of the trees even produce white fruits, nuts, and leaves. The land is mostly flat, but it does rise in some areas, creating hills. The biggest hill stretches up nearly five hundred feet.  With it being in the north, temperatures can drop relatively low. 

It doesn’t sit far enough north to get a constant onslaught of snow and below zero weather, but it does get really cold in the winter. Luckily, the trees in the orchard are able to survive in cold weather. Mulching, mainly made up of leaves and thin branches from the surrounding forest, placed around the base of the trees aids in helping them persevere against the frigid air and snow. During the winter, temperatures can drop to forty degrees in the day time and to the lower thirties at night. Extremely cold winters will sometimes see just above zero weather, but not often.  In summer, temperatures can easily rise to the lower seventies in the day and to the lower sixties at night. 


It hardly ever goes above seventy-five degrees due to its location. While snow is not something that occurs every day of winter, like it does in some of the further northern places, it does happen. Rain mainly occurs during the summer, though there are a few instances of winter rain. This mainly happens in early winter, when the temperature is still somewhat moderate. There is a healthy balance of fruit and nut trees. The fruit trees have been planted in the northern part of the orchard and the nut trees are in the south. While the fruit and nut trees are the main vegetation, there are a few fruit bushes. These bushes are fairly new and were planted by the zu’aan of Zhiekyer City. 

Animals, especially rodents, love the orchard. There are a variety of small mammals and insects that inhabit the orchard, though the zu’aan try to keep the more harmful ones out. There is a forest surrounding the orchard that separates it from the large, snow covered mountain at its northern side. The trees of the forest stand taller than the ones in the orchard at nearly eighty feet. The fruit and nut trees in the orchard only reach heights of six to eight feet. The zu’aan take up residence towards the western side of the city. Before the walls and homes came up, that part of the orchard was pretty much bare. There was evidence of previous settlements there, empty ruins, but those were easily gotten rid of to make room for them.

== Plants ==

The soil in Kaimalrae White Orchard is fairly fertile and rich in nutrients. While there are a few dozen fruit bushes here and there, the vegetation is mainly made up of white fruit and nut trees. Flowers grow on these trees to help the fruit develop by attracting pollinators. A majority of the nut trees produce year round, along with a little over half of the fruit trees. The rest hibernate during the winter, gathering their energy to prepare for summer. Dasse is a fruit that is shaped like a curved horn. It's wide and circular where it connects to the tree. It then slims and curves as it reaches the tip. Some zu’aan call it ‘hook fruit’ due to its shape. The white outer layer is thick and inedible, though it can be steeped to make a sweet tasting water mixture. 

The light blue fruit inside has a subtle sweet taste that becomes more potent when cooked. Dozens of small, edible, red flowers with three large petals shaped like rounded triangles sit around the fruits. Walseek is a sweet tasting nut that grows inside peachy colored flowers. The flower is shaped like a trumpet with a wide opening at the bottom. Each of these flowers produces around twenty nuts. The hard, brown shell makes a small teardrop shape that protects the white nut inside. Walseek, while sweet, is extremely healthy and packed with nutrients. While the shell is inedible, the smooth nut can be eaten raw or cooked, and can be crushed and used for both seasoning and as a sugar substitute if finely ground up. 


They are often used to make desserts. Walseek has one of the largest populations in the orchard. A good thirty percent of the nut trees grow it. Thrort is a sour tasting fruit that is shaped like a stretched out oval with its ends pinched. Its edible outer layer is a light pink and its inside is a dark purple. It is a soft fruit that is about four inches long and about two inches thick. They grow in bunches of six on a single thin branch and several dozen of these bunches grow on a single tree. White and pink, bowl shaped flowers also grow on the tree. The flowers smell sweet, as most of the tree flowers in the orchard do, and have a sweet taste to them. Mixing thrort and thrort blossoms creates a unique flavor of sweet and sour.

Grole is a salty tasting nut with a ridge-like texture. The sphere shaped blue nut sits inside a light brown sphere shell about the size of a child’s palm. Grole nuts are one of the biggest nuts in the orchard. Its shell is tough and can be hard to crack.It grows in bunches of four on a branch. They stand out against the white leaves that grow on the tree. Grole can be eaten raw, but most zu’aan like to crush them and use them for seasoning. This particular tree does not grow flowers.

== Animals ==

Most of the animals in the Kaimalrae White Orchard are small mammals, especially after the wall went up. They make up almost seventy percent of the animal population. The rest are made up of insects and birds. Most of them are herbivores, but there are a few carnivores mixed in. The zu’aan use the carnivores to keep the other animals in check, as a lot of them are often found eating from the trees.  Lomian are small, six legged mammals. They grow to a length of about two and a half feet along with their bushy tails. Between their limbs are fur-covered loose skin that allows them to glide in the air. Completely herbivorous, they love snacking on the sweet dasse fruit, and can often be found lying on its branches. 

Their thick, soft, white fur can make them hard to locate. It’s usually their bright red eyes and the soft clicking sound they make that makes them noticeable. Luckily, lomian aren’t a species that needs to be controlled. While they occasionally will take fruit straight from the tree, they usually take dasse that have already fallen to the ground. They only lay on the tree branches to stay away from predators. Lomian live in burrowed holes around the edges of the orchard. Caphan are small, pollinating birds. They stand at about two feet and have a wingspan of a little over a foot. Their feathers are an iridescent mix of light blue and light purple. Their black beaks are thin and curved downward. 


They make their nests in trees with sweet fruit.  As caphan are omnivores, they can usually be found eating the fruit that grows around their nests or other sweet flowers. They help pollinate not just the trees they inhabit, but all trees that produce sweet smelling plant life. Caphan migrates towards the south in the winter. Their thin feathers aren’t proficient protection against that kind of cold. These birds mate for life. If their mate dies, the other is usually not that far behind. Most have a life expectancy of about twelve years, without a mate. That goes down by about two or three years when they’re mated. Qhipus are one of the carnivorous animals that the zu’aan use to control the rest of the animals. 

These black furred felidae creatures walk on four legs and stand at a shoulder height of four feet. Their fur is short and coarse, and their bodies are slim. They don’t have tails and their ears droop a bit to the sides. Their eyes are a striking light blue that some zu’aan say glows at night. Their claws are sharp and retractable, and they secrete a paralyzing liquid. Inside their wide mouths are two rows of fangs. They are said to be able to devour a lomian in one bite. Qhuipus are extremely fast and agile. They have a lot of strength in their hind legs, allowing them to easily jump heights of eight or nine feet. These animals are domesticated and raised by the zu’aan for the single purpose of animal control.
