==Geography ==

The Cerer Boreal Wetland is a large swamp-like environment with very big, consistent flora and mossy, mushy fauna with predominance of aquatic animals and mammals. The roots of the enormous plants and trees that grow there hold the firm ground a few inches out of the deep-water puddles, which make the deeper areas, where there are not many footholds or where to step properly, difficult to access, since they are, most of the time, flooded. The state of flooding decreases only in summer, when a percentage of the accumulated water evaporates more easily with high heat. In some occasions, except immediately after rain, the swamp loses water considerably slower than lakes, for instance.

The shelter given by the reeds in the swamp to the water surface and the internal resistance to water of the reeds themselves causes it to be more difficult for the water to evaporate in a significant amount, though. On the edges, it has slopes of soft land that demarcate its limits, keeping the terrain higher than the other islands around it. On these banks, there are, in the vast majority, low plants and shrubs, preceding some huge lianas and vine like trees, which begin to extend, demarcate and cap into the swamp’s pre-center. The climate on the edges alternates normally, according to the surrounding islands, but towards the center, into the heart of the swamp, the climate is predominantly tropical at all times of the year, with the exception of winter.


When it gets icy cold, especially and harder at late hours. The water, however, never completely freezes, remaining liquid and with holes mostly along the middle, and the ice that forms is dangerously thin because of the dense swamp cover around it. As a result, not even in winter is there a greater percentage of land that can be walked on inside the site, making any very deep excavations impossible, which contributes to the growth of fear in relation to the swamp. Much, if not all, of the water that starts from the middle to the heart of the swamp has a characteristic glow, considered mystical by children who dare to venture into it.

Bioluminescent microorganisms from the adkoth family that started to grow by default at the bottom of craters, holes, lakes or any other shallow bodies of water scattered throughout the site, in addition to the swamp water itself, adapting to its nature over time. Bioluminescent kx'or  can have severe effects on other organisms’ health and should not be touched; whomever that touches the particularly sparky spots on the water can have burns in the skin, infections, and even death. Swimming in waters containing algal blooms is not recommended, no matter how beautiful they are. The kx'or's glow is actually a natural defense mechanism; the light flashes occur when the microorganism’s environment is disturbed. 


Single-cell kx'or called are almost always behind this kind of surface luminescence. The species is notorious for forming some of the most widespread bioluminescent blooms, and these blooms—although beautiful—are connected to harmful environmental effects and can be dangerously toxic.


== Plants ==

The swamp is a type of wetland ecosystem characterized by mineral soils with poor drainage and by plant life dominated by trees. The latter characteristic distinguishes a swamp from a marsh, in which plant life consists largely of grasses. The number of plant species in swamps is few compared with the numbers that grow on well-watered but not waterlogged land. Tropical swamp trees often develop buttresses that apparently help support them, though buttresses are also common on many upland trees in the tropics. Generally, all swamp trees lack deep-growing roots. Roots tend to stay close to the surface, probably because of the lack of oxygen in the soil. Being near the surface gives a large lateral spread to the root system, which also gives the tree support against lateral stresses from winds or water flow.

The shallowness of the roots also often produces the appearance of buttresses in temperate swamp trees because the beginnings of the roots, usually hidden in the soil, are visible at the surface. Different species of trees that grow in temporary swamps differ considerably in their resistance to submersion—i.e., to lack of oxygen. This is serious during the submergence period but is not a problem in drier periods, at least in the shallow layers of the soil.

Funipisis is a small herbaceous plant that contains some genes in its composition that made it develop neurons, in this way, even with a shallow understanding, it is known for being “a plant that laughs”, often attracting curious people to it because of this behavior. It has a network capable of capturing stimuli and considering them funny or not. According to its natural habitat and in response to environmental conditions, this plant can present great genetic heterogeneity, which is reflected in the diversity of its morphological and physiological characteristics. That is, it is a very common-looking plant, the type that, if not properly observed, can be difficult to specify and can end up with an irremediable confusion. 

While plants with neurons and genes like these aren't common, this one isn't unique.

'''LEOTOD'''

Leotod is a climbing plant, a climbing bush, with branches that get tangled up by anything that ends up in its center. The leaf tendrils have a kind of sapy glue on their tips that allow them to stick to clothes, skin, hair and bones like little claws or teeth, like ticks or burs. With such great possibilities of “trapping”, these huge bushes practically hold their victims for something else to devour them.

'''MENMARIDUM'''

Menmaridum is a round cactus-like plant which contains some consistent amounts of psychoactive alkaloids, particularly mescaline, that occurs naturally in several species of cacti, and is produced when products of natural mammalian catecholamine-based neuronal signaling are subjected to additional metabolism via methylation; the hallucinogenic properties stem from its structural similarities with these two neurotransmitters. In plants, this compound may be the end-product of a kind of pathway, utilizing catecholamines as a method of stress response (escape valve).
Usually, they grow low to the ground and appear in blue-green, yellow-green or sometimes reddish-green shoots, mostly commonly in flattened spheres with sunken shoot tips. They can reach heights of 4 to 12 centimeters. Tends to flower from autumn to winter.


== Animals ==

While some of the animals live in the swamp all the time, others may be there only in search of food. The majority of the animals who live there are very small, live in the mud, or are only found underwater. Adaptations of marsh animals include webbed feet, hard shells and pinching claws, for instance, as well as to bet on camouflage; some will often submerge themselves in aquatic plants and leave only their eyes poking out above the water to watch for food. Other animals will burrow themselves in mud to stay cool and wait for passing prey. Large predators take advantage of these tactics as well. Despite being an aquatic ecosystem flooding with seawater and teeming with fish, swamps count, too, with many different mammals. 

Although most of them have, in the past, tended only to go there to find temporary shelter and food, a few have ended up staying and adapting to the swamp's circumstances. The dark, hidden nature of the place turned out to be useful not only to the soldiers who used it so terribly, but to the animals within.

'''VOTATORIUM'''

Votatorium is a huge mammal that tends to rest, eat and be near the biggest trees in the swamp. Despite being a mammal, it has few hairs; their skin is reddish brown, and concentrations of moss, mushrooms, and stumps grow on their backs, heads, and often over their eyes, making them partially or completely dependent on their sense of smell for guidance and survival. There are no records of domestication, which suggests that, most likely, they have always been wild. What little hair they have is in their groins and short, round snouts. The paws have not-so-delimited toes, with nails that curve like individual hooves on each. Tails can vary in size and shape from animal to animal, but most commonly they are short and do not move much. 

Its habits do not offer much danger to other species, because, despite its size, it is not a territorial or agile animal. They move extremely slowly, and if I had to sum them up in a few words, they would be eating and sleeping.

'''ROCALITESINT'''

Rocalitesint is an animal whose skin has adapted to the point of becoming natural armor, being as hard as the bark of stoned trees. It is impenetrable to blades, with a few exceptions being points of impact such as the neck, lower abdomen, and insides of the legs. Because it is an animal that tends to accumulate a lot of fat, eating both plants and smaller species of animals, it was hunted a lot and almost became extinct in antiquity. Nowadays, as it is a species that is only found in this place, it is no longer hunted or exploited, which has given it space to grow and evolve; its front paws have taken on more tapered shapes with sharp edges like a shovel curved downwards, and its back has developed tough ridges that, while not looking like thorns, cut and pierce like such.
