The Kaleachtia are adapted to the hot, geothermally active, seismically active Okoli Caldera. They are short and stout of build. Their torsos are heavy and low slung, with legs that are disproportionately strong legs. With this, they have exceptional stability on uneven, shifting volcanic slopes and earthquakes. This stocky build makes them slow on flat, open ground. Their skin is shaded in shades of black, grey and even some orange to blend with rock and lava. The skin is adapted to be highly resistant to acidic corrosion from geothermal steam and volcanic runoff.
This stops their skin being burned away in the caustic environment. This skin, resistant as it is to heat and acids, is prone to damage by frostbite and highly alkaline solutions. They lack all hair, having in replacement stiff, porcupine-like quills along the spine and neck with calcium and iron reinforcement. These help protect from rockfall and shrapnel. These spines are fragile, as they are adapted as an crumple zone to absorb the impact. The eyes are bright orange in color, and protected by specialized polarized lenses formed by an semi-crystalline layer and adapted from a nictitating membrane.
These are adapted to lower the glare and reflectivity from black volcanic glass and heat shimmer. Their ears are very long, pointed and wide. The nose is able to filter out chemicals using an advanced, three-stage filtration system. It actively neutralizes and removes dangerous sulfurous and acidic gases from the inhaled air. This system has lead to their sense of smell being dulled compered to other kin'toni. The teeth are coated with an specialized, heat-resistant ceramic-like enamel that is adapted for biting though the rocks needed to keep up their mineral intake.
The downside of their need for minerals is that they rely on the rocks of their native region to get what is needed for their mineral laced teeth and bones. They have claws that are exceptionally tough and short, with chisel-like points to grip into the hard volcanic rock and climbing near vertical slopes. These claws are blunt, and therefore make bad weapons. The feet and hands have hyper dense, specialized heat resistant pads. These are very resistant to the effects of the heated rocks, but these pads have no tactile feedback, leading them to be clumsy on wet, icy or unseen unstable landscapes.
Legs and feet are thick and heavily muscled, to allow them to sustain high-impact force. This aids them when descending steep rock faces. These muscles are not adapted for movement over horizontal, sustained running on flat ground, leading to fast exhaustion. The bones are strengthened with additional calcium and iron to endure constant minor seismic tremors and climbing impacts more easy to endure. These bones are heavy, making climbing over fragile areas harder, and making them unable to swim.
They have lungs with expanded air sacs that allow them to hold their breath for extended periods, an adaption to deal with toxic sulfur plumes or gas vents. These sacs are an weak point in their biology, and easy to damage.
